Historically, the U.S. functioned as a confederation where state citizenship preceded national identity. This structure was transformed to fortify the nation, arguably diminishing the individual's influence. Entities like the Federal Reserve oversee monetary policy, and the income tax system operates without explicit constitutional sanction. Cases like Trump vs. Andersen highlight ongoing debates about constitutional freedoms and the original intent of the nation's founders.
