Record Club Founder Free Oribhabor on Wormholes & Being a Jack-of-All-Trades (Part 1 of 2)

This week is part 1 of a 2-part conversation I had with longtime DJ and music producer, Free Oribhabor. He’s also the founder of Record Club, an immersive album listening experience he hosts monthly in LA. As the LA Times put it, "He wanted to create a music listening experience that replicated the grandiose feeling of sitting in a theater and watching a film with other fans." As you’ll hear in these conversations (and you’ve felt if you’ve danced while he’s DJ-ing or been in the audience while he unpacks a favorite album) his enthusiasm is palpable. In this we not only talk about the origin of Record Club but also expanding it in the future while maintaining the intimate vision he had for it early on. In part 1 we talk about wormholes and research, being undervalued in education, making money doing many different things (being a jack-of-all-trades) which can mean that things take longer. And in part 2 we get into how his musical taste has developed, having confidence in taste, allowing taste to change, and he takes questions for friends. Let us know if you listen.   SHOW NOTES: - Follow Free @yeafree https://www.instagram.com/yeafree/ + Record Club @therecord.club https://www.instagram.com/therecord.club/ - LA Times article https://www.latimes.com/lifestyle/story/2023-11-06/record-club-immersive-listening-experience-los-angeles on the Record Club - Find me on IG: @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en + @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en | Substack https://letitout.substack.com - 2 spots left in the Creative Clinic https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic: book a call with me here https://letitout.appointlet.com/s/11200 - More on Creative Underdogs/In Process here https://www.katiedalebout.com/in-process | waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5ebc4ba6df5f060026f19278 - Check out the Let It Out Kits https://www.katiedalebout.com/kits-shop | Write Kit https://www.katiedalebout.com/write-kit | Talk Kit Waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/64cd51739b48101ef1dcf70a - Inbox Organization https://thelifestylelab.thinkific.com/courses/inbox-organization?ref=678f79 course: code LETITOUT for 20% off   IF YOU LIKED THIS EPISODE, TRY OUT FROM THE ARCHIVE: Episode 424 https://letitout.simplecast.com/episodes/perfection-bubbles-burst-musician-sam-burton-on-collaboration-psychology-tarot-criticism-beginners-mind-more - Perfection Bubbles Burst: Musician Sam Burton on Collaboration, Tarot, Criticism & More

Dressing Generations: Norma Kamali on Reinvention, Priorities, and the More You Do, the More You Can Do Mentality [REAIR]

This week, a conversation with iconic designer Norma Kamali. Recorded over Zoom from her office in Manhattan, we cover her 50-year career, from graduating from FIT with a degree in illustration to working for Northwest Airlines—which allowed her to fly to London on the weekends for only $29. It felt like a time capsule to hear her talk about the cultural revolution in London in the 1960s and how she would bring back pieces for friends, which led her to start a store, and eventually design her own pieces.  Soon her designs were worn by Bianca Jagger, Bette Midler, and Cher. But at 29 Norma left her marriage, which meant walking away from the brand she’d quietly built with only $98 in her pocket. But starting over ultimately led her to create a brand with longevity and panache. From her unique sleeping bag coat design (worn by the doormen at Studio 54 and by those standing outside hoping it would increase their chances of getting in) to the now-iconic red swimsuit Farrah Fawcett wore on that famous poster, Norma has dressed generations.  She’s full of wisdom and perspective and gently gives me advice on everything from aging, to dating (she fell in love again ten years ago at 65), to how she views busyness—she says “the more you do, the more you can do.” We get into her thoughts on her industry’s evolution and on upcoming generations. I hope I did her career and story justice in this conversation with a real icon.   SHOW NOTES: - Find Norma on the Web https://normakamali.com/ | Instagram https://www.instagram.com/normakamali - Find me on IG: @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en + @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en | Substack https://letitout.substack.com - 2 spots left in the Creative Clinic https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic: book a call with me here https://letitout.appointlet.com/s/11200 - More on Creative Underdogs/In Process here https://www.katiedalebout.com/in-process | waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5ebc4ba6df5f060026f19278 - Check out the Let It Out Kits https://www.katiedalebout.com/kits-shop | Write Kit https://www.katiedalebout.com/write-kit | Talk Kit Waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/64cd51739b48101ef1dcf70a - Kayleen Schaefer's episode https://letitouttt.com/podcasts/but-youre-still-so-young-redefining-our-30s-with-kayleen-schaefer/ - Kayleen's book, Text Me When You Get Home https://www.amazon.com/Text-When-You-Get-Home/dp/1101986123?&linkCode=sl1&tag=katiedalebout-20&linkId=131ed9be3ce6be9491cdb9a9fd43dda7&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl - Take the "We Don't Talk Anymore" survey https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeRCTNKcKZ0uezz2rRCOSmfTxEmpn-KvKXCjFGgEcvFmzdMTg/viewform on friend breakups - Learn more about my creative consulting & if you'd like to book a free session, book here https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic! - Learn more about "Soft Stories https://letitouttt.com/general/letting-out-soft-stories/"

Creative Discipline in the Land of No Seasons with Jacqueline Suskin, Poet, Author & Educator

This week’s guest, Jacqueline Suskin, is a poet, educator, and the author of eight books, with work featured in publications including the New York Times, the Atlantic, and the Los Angeles Times. Her newest book, https://amzn.to/3wBdo6R, is a practical guide for using the natural seasons to inform creative rhythms, and how our rhythms are drawn from those of the earth. She now lives in Detroit where she works as a teaching artist with InsideOut Literary Arts https://insideoutdetroit.org, bringing nature poetry into classrooms with her Poem Forest curriculum. She spent many years living in Los Angeles where she began an ongoing project called Poem Store where she composed over forty thousand improvisational poems. In this conversation, we spoke about her transition from living in a place with very slight seasonal difference to a climate where the seasons are clear; how she protects her creative practice by experimenting with what works for her and developing deep discipline to maintain it; the power of saying no; hinging on the brink of success; committing to finding sources of energy that feel consistent and fulfilling, rather than draining; the intensity of spring; seasonal transitions and more. She even reads a poem.   SHOW NOTES: - Find Jacqueline on the Web http://www.jacquelinesuskin.com | Instagram https://www.instagram.com/tracy_mccubbin/ | https://amzn.to/3wBdo6R - Find me on IG: @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en + @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en | Substack https://letitout.substack.com - 2 spots left in the Creative Clinic https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic: book a call with me here https://letitout.appointlet.com/s/11200 - More on Creative Underdogs/In Process here https://www.katiedalebout.com/in-process | waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5ebc4ba6df5f060026f19278 - Check out the Let It Out Kits https://www.katiedalebout.com/kits-shop | Write Kit https://www.katiedalebout.com/write-kit | Talk Kit Waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/64cd51739b48101ef1dcf70a - Inbox Organization https://thelifestylelab.thinkific.com/courses/inbox-organization?ref=678f79 course: code LETITOUT for 20% off   IF YOU LIKED THIS EPISODE, TRY OUT FROM THE ARCHIVE: Episode 333 https://letitout.simplecast.com/episodes/taking-up-space-acceptance-mindfulness-in-motherhood-and-catching-ideas-with-mari-orkenyi-part-1: Taking up space, acceptance, mindfulness in motherhood & catching ideas with Mari Orkenyi

Organizing Chaos: Decluttering Expert Tracy McCubbin on Collecting Experiences, Not Objects

This week I spoke with decluttering expert and author Tracy McCubbin on why filling our homes with stuff makes us feel empty, aging and how she both got married and started her business later in life, and why connection and being helpful to others prevents clutter. Congrats On Your Breakup! Variety Show ft. Lacy Phillips, Mari Andrew, Yoke Lore, Rachelle Robinett, Robyn Kanner, Jon Marro, Kristin Hanggi & More!

In honor of Valentine’s Day it’s an episode about romantic love… just kidding it’s about breakups! It's part variety show from 2019 where I compiled all of the times (up until then) I spoke with guests on how heartbreak, grief, and sadness can lead to growth. I play some of my favorite clips from my conversations with manifestation advisor and founder of To Be Magnetic, Lacy Phillips, herbalist and founder of Supernatural, Rachelle Robinett, writer and designer Robyn Kanner, author Sara Avant Stover, dancer and writer Cody Cook-Parrott, illustrator and author Mari Andrew, artist Jon Marro, writer Jessica Ciencin Henriquez, musician Yoke Lore, director Kristin Hanggi ... it sounds like a bummer of an episode but it was actually quite optimistic, full of wisdom, and even at times funny. Then I react to hearing their advice 5 years later, talk about if I took it and what has happened since… Let me know if you listen : )   SHOW NOTES: - Breakups Kits https://www.katiedalebout.com/breakups-kits - Inbox Organization https://thelifestylelab.thinkific.com/courses/inbox-organization?ref=678f79 course: code LETITOUT for 20% off - Our Substack https://letitout.substack.com - My Creative Clinic https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic: book a call with me here https://letitout.appointlet.com/s/11200 - TALK KIT waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/64cd51739b48101ef1dcf70a - Creative Underdogs/In Process here https://www.katiedalebout.com/in-process | waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5ebc4ba6df5f060026f19278 - IG: @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en + @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en FULL EPISODES OF GUESTS IN THIS EPISODE: __ __

Paradox & Purge with James McCrae, Author of The Art of You

This week, my friend James McCrae is back on the podcast. James is an author, poet, artist, and founder of Sunflower Club, a global school and community dedicated to conscious creativity. He's the author of several books, his newest being  https://amzn.to/3OqlwgC, which we talk about extensively here. Something I love about the book is the fascinating facts, anecdotes, and stories about James' life and the accumulated knowledge of different authors, musicians, filmmakers, spiritual teachers, and artists of all disciplines, from the Rolling Stones to Alan Ginsberg. Our conversation covers haikus, mistakes being portals, the id vs. ego, the role of criticism in pushing art forward, boundaries attracting people you love, and much more. Madelynn De La Rosa Returns (Part 2 of 2): Art, Connection, Embodiment, etc.

This week's episode is Part 2 of my conversation with filmmaker and ceramicist Madelynn De La Rosa. It’s been 3 years since she came over to record last and this conversation centered around all she learned in the last year. Recorded just before the holidays, she talks about how some of the biggest changes she’s made in her life have begun as New Year’s resolutions. In this second half, we talk about: how internal work can lead to external life changes, fear of being ordinary, her film recs, q&a from listeners, and more. If you missed Part 1 https://letitout.simplecast.com/episodes/resolutions-reinvention-madelynn-de-la-rosa-returns-part-1, we discussed shadow work, learning to be gentler on yourself, gene keys, Abraham Hicks, spiritual principles that have helped us, and learning to not be too dogmatic about any of it. Molting and Slow Growth with Andrew Bird [REAIR]

’Tis the season for a repeat episode. I chose this interview with musician Andrew Bird from the archive because he always reminds me of the holidays. Before I play my 2019 conversation with Bird, I speak about how an episode he recorded in 2020 with Maron impacted me, including his perspective on ‘molting’. Despite the discomfort I felt revisiting something recorded nearly 4 years ago and judging my past self, what Bird shared with me in our conversation feels as relevant today as it did then.   We covered the slow growth he experienced coming up as a musician, discipline in building his career, and how his strict classical violin training required strict adherence to rules—rules he ended up breaking to create his own signature style. He’s extremely prolific: since this interview was released, he's put out 4 additional albums, including his https://open.spotify.com/album/41h4pqwFRxXDXWsd61hHad?si=kNBfXi2QTp2HE_j4Ed9GsA which I talk about in the introduction. In this interview, we focused on https://amzn.to/2Uvuj3x, which had just come out. Like all his albums, it’s filled with smart lyrics and mythology (which we talk about in this episode) as well as fresh melodies and probing themes. Recorded  in a crowded room at a music festival,  the sound is different than usual. And you might notice some odd jumps from topic to topic as we made the best of the audio we had. You’ll hear us jump around from how he writes songs, to how he met his wife, how he spends his mornings, parents his son, and of course, how he began incorporating whistling. Happy Holidays! Talking to Yourself: Katie Horwitch on How to Maintain Your Social Battery, Shift Negative Self-Talk & Plan a Freakout

This week, I talk to my good friend of nearly a decade, author Katie Horwitch. We reminisce about our years of friendship, both moving to New York, and the evolving nature of relationships with distance. Our conversation also delves into the celebration of her new book and exploring her writing process. With a background in theater, Katie has long been an advocate for helping women shift negative self-talk patterns, a theme central to her book. She emphasizes the importance of beginning with the "self" rather than the "talk" when trying to shift negative internal dialog. In this episode, we explore why developing a stronger sense of self is the initial step to shifting negative self-talk. Additionally, we touch on Katie's insights into loneliness, belonging, casual negativity, prioritization, coping with overwhelm, distilling a project down to a concise thesis, and energy management. Apologies & Authenticity: Shari Foos' Guide to Genuine Human Interaction

In this episode, I speak with Shari Foos, a marriage and family therapist and the visionary founder of The Narrative Method. We delve into the power of human connection, discussing concepts like the "cult of culture," the transformative impact of uninterrupted sharing, and the art of hosting salons. Taylor Swift's Next Era? the Swiftologist Zachary Hourihane on pop culture, criticism, fandom, selective vulnerability, Taylormania vs. Beatlemania and more

This week I spoke with Zachary Hourihane, a journalist living in Singapore. After going to school in New York, he returned to Singapore and began his career working in journalism there. He now works in corporate advertising while simultaneously being a prolific pop culture creator. He delivers heavily researched video essays and his thoughtful perspective on pop culture on his channel Swiftologist https://www.youtube.com/@theswiftologist. He has videos on everything from Lana Del Rey to Lorde to tk. Tk tk and he’s most known for chronicling the life and times of his favorite pop icon, Taylor Swift. He’s been part of the fandom for over a decade and for the last four years, he’s co-hosted the podcast The Evolution of a Snake https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/evolution-of-a-snake-the-taylor-swift-podcast/id1452608225 where he and his co-host, Madeline Rubicam (writer of the Lizard Review https://thelizardreview.substack.com), go through year by year and break down the catalog and career of Taylor Swift.  We cover the Beatles-esque mania of Taylor Swift and Zack’s take on where it’s going from here, as well as how he got into the fandom, the early Tumblr days, connecting with his co-host Madeline, how he got into American pop culture, selective vulnerability and self-mythologizing, and his process for making video essays and keeping up with the pace of media while working full time, including how he takes care of himself amidst the busyness. We recorded this on zoom  a few months ago; it was late at night for him in Singapore and early in the morning for me. Let us know if you listen.    SHOW NOTES: - Find Zachary on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/hourihandsome/?hl=en | YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@theswiftologist | Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/evolution-of-a-snake-the-taylor-swift-podcast/id1452608225 - This episode is sponsored by The Narrative Method https://www.thenarrativemethod.org: sign up for a free writing or conversation Salon below: __ __ - Subscribe to our newsletter https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5e8f6eb5b68c420026bb933c to get show notes + essays, etc. sent to your inbox - A few spots open in the Creative Clinic: more info here https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic or email me (katie@letitouttt.com) - Check out the Let It Out Kits https://www.katiedalebout.com/kits-shop: self-study workshops for personal growth | sign up for the Talk Kit waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/64cd51739b48101ef1dcf70a - Follow @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en on Instagram. I'm @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en IF YOU LIKED THIS EPISODE, TRY OUT FROM THE ARCHIVE: Episode 383 https://letitout.simplecast.com/episodes/the-1am-conversation-new-york-times-columnist-kyle-buchanan-on-writing-togetherness-mad-max-more: The 1 a.m. Conversation: New York Times Columnist Kyle Buchanan on Writing, Togetherness, Mad Max & More

Stuck In the Middle: A Spiraling Clip Show with Serena Wolf

This week is not an interview, instead it’s two clips from the second show I co-host with Serena Wolf, called Spiraling. It's our fifth season and this season is a little bit in the "messy middle," which I'll explain in the first clip from episode two. In it Serena and I talk about how stress and being “in process” affect anxiety, feeling stagnant, worrying about being behind, and how perspective is the ultimate reframe. It’s a toast to your next existential crisis… Then I play a clip from an unreleased episode where we discuss how we’ve been learning that taking breaks actually improves our productivity, while also touching on the surprising difficulty of committing to rest. Age, Art & Attachment: Cale Tyson Returns

This week Cale Tyson returns. He’s a musician originally from Texas, now living in LA. He walked over the other day and we caught up about what’s happened since he was here last including his upcoming pop country album. We talk about his music trajectory from playing in emo bands in high school to beginning a music career in Nashville to touring as a classic country artist and now, making the shift to pop country. We also delve into our feelings around aging and entering what Richard Rohr calls, "the second half of life," bouncing between projects, attachment styles, dating, and learning to not take anything too seriously—especially yourself.   SHOW NOTES: - Find Cale on the Web http://www.caletyson.net/ | Instagram https://www.instagram.com/caletyson/?hl=en | Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/0BU835xMjZ04GXuJSxBrJy?si=ADv04KdZTXiRsUxtWjJb9Q | Book http://www.caletyson.net/book/some-memories-are-only-thoughts - Maddie's newsletter:  https://www.waithaveyoureadthis.com/ The specific Issue I read from: 06: Nice Guys https://us18.campaign-archive.com/?u=8a283a4a4b56896cba4aee96e&id=090232e579 - Listen to Cale's music and follow him on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/0BU835xMjZ04GXuJSxBrJy?si=ADv04KdZTXiRsUxtWjJb9Q to find his new singles   - This episode is sponsored by The Narrative Method https://www.instagram.com/thenarrativemethod/: learn more & sign up for a free writing or conversation Salon here https://www.thenarrativemethod.org/! - Subscribe to our newsletter https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5e8f6eb5b68c420026bb933c to get show notes + essays, etc. sent to your inbox - A few spots open in the Creative Clinic: more info here https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic or email me (katie@letitouttt.com) - Check out the Let It Out Kits https://www.katiedalebout.com/kits-shop: self-study workshops for personal growth | sign up for the Talk Kit waitlist https://view.flodesk.com/pages/64cd51739b48101ef1dcf70a - Follow @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en on Instagram. I'm @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en IF YOU LIKED THIS EPISODE, TRY OUT FROM THE ARCHIVE: Episode 418 https://letitouttt.com/podcasts/cale-remembers-his-thoughts-musician-cale-tyson-on-rehab-recovery-our-neighborhood-feeling-like-high-school/: Cale remembers his thoughts: musician Cale Tyson on rehab, recovery & our neighborhood feeling like high school...

Warm > Cool Melina Peterson on Effort in Effortless, Career Sabbatical, Pivoting and more

In this week's episode, I spoke to my good friend Melina Peterson about the hidden effort behind appearing effortless, human design, astrology, leaving a full-time job after navigating the corporate matrix, burnout, and more. Melina started her own creative marketing agency called Cornerlight Digital and recently made the challenging decision to pause it to take a sabbatical. We recorded this while she was in the midst of her career pause, so she shared what’s been coming up for her, including: exploring synchronicities, reconnecting with her inner child, and reevaluating her values post-pandemic. She still lives in NYC but recently visited LA, so we recorded this in person at my kitchen table while she was in town. Perspective, Connection & Fame with Moby & Lindsay Hicks

This week I spoke with iconic musician Moby, who has recently ventured into podcasting with "MOBY POD https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/moby-pod/id1661387401" alongside sustainability expert Lindsay Hicks. I met them both for the first time when I went to Moby’s house to record this a few months ago. We talked for hours about everything from the sunk cost fallacy to attachment and aversion. He’s candid about getting sober and his experience with fame and how that has impacted his perspective. A thread that runs through this conversation is perspective, nostalgia, and storytelling as well as attachment, connection, and self-awareness. Karma Success with Liz Tran, Founder of Reset NYC

This week I spoke to author and founder of Reset NYC Liz Tran. In addition to her fifteen years of tech and VC experience, Liz also coaches from her spiritual practice. She is a Buddhist and a trained meditation teacher, and studied at the Samyak Ashram in Dharamshala, India. In this we spoke about the difference between self-esteem and self-worth and the benefits of developing self-worth which include: increased productivity, socializing, assertiveness, and resilience. We talk about the importance of feeling comfortable with the people you surround yourself with in order to build self-esteem. As well as how to be assertive without being rude, how family constellations helped her make some major life changes, and how she works with her founders as an executive coach. Her new book https://amzn.to/3E0lHtp just came out, so we talk about some of my favorite parts including the diagrams, figures, and visuals she uses to break down concepts and how she comes up with them. "my mind feels like a busy office building" with Athena Monet

This week I had a conversation with Athena Monet, a former architect--she left both her job and the city to move near the ocean. It’s there where she became an author of the book https://amzn.to/43lkN4M and started her practice as a shaman helping people through life transitions. She’s also a mother of five, so in this conversation we covered her perspective around productivity which includes both permission and integration. Leaving Instagram with Amelia Hruby, PhD, Host of Off The Grid & Founder of Softer Sounds Studio

This week I spoke to writer and podcaster Amelia Hruby. She’s also the author of the book https://amzn.to/3PMTrRT. In this conversation we primarily focus on one aspect of her work, the topic of her show: https://www.softersounds.studio/off-the-grid. We discuss her experience of leaving social media and the feelings that come with navigating Instagram both personally and professionally. She shares how the boundaries she set up for herself failed her and how the pros of leaving Instagram outweighed the cons. We unpack the nuances of the social capital of instagram, parasocial relationships on it, how our use of it evolved since we first got it, and the emotions tied up in using it socially. We spent so much time on this topic, that she will be back for part two where we will focus on podcasting, from what makes a good conversation to where she sees the future of the industry and  more. "Just Swing at the Balls Coming at You": Andi Interviews Me

This week is a clip from an interview I did earlier this year on Andi Eaton Alleman's podcast.  In this episode, we discuss: how our tiny decisions shape us, cultivating friendships as adults, "middles" in relationships, failure and why success teaches us nothing, procrastinating out of fear and overwhelm rather than laziness, "protecting yourself from your own mind," perception, and more. "Queering in Friendships": Rae McDaniel, Sex Therapist & Author of Gender Magic Returns

This week Rae McDaniel is back. Rae is a non-binary gender and sex therapist who works primarily with transgender/non-binary/questioning folks transitioning their gender identity. We talk about how everybody has an opportunity to look at their gender identity and decide how they want to express it to see they want to present themselves. You might remember from our last episode they were writing a book. It's out now and called: Gender Magic—I read an early copy and loved it. We covered some of my favorite parts like how they see gender as a galaxy, human centered design thinking, how they approach decision making, naming fear rather than ignoring it, evolving personal style and the importance of kinship through “queering” intimacy in friendships, and much more. Mindful Space Design: Anjie Cho Returns

You may remember Anjie from her several other appearances here over the years, most recently, the in-person feng shui consulting session she did for me in my apartment. This time, in her fifth appearance on this podcast, we give some updates from making the adjustments she suggested on our last episode, plus we talk about her new book, some factors she can pinpoint that impacted her career success, and I took some questions from others including space and home adjustments for relationships, and how to adjust and compromise when merging styles when moving in with a new partner. And the question she gets most often from couples: what to do when one person values consistency and familiarity and the other loves novelty and moving around furniture.  Since 1999, Anjie has been designing spaces informed by the ancient practice of feng shui and tailored to each individual’s needs, which you’ll get a taste of in this. She’s been featured everywhere from The New York Times to Domino Magazine; she’s a New York State registered architect; co-founder of the Mindful Design Feng Shui School; and author of the book Holistic Spaces and the newly published Mindful Homes.    SHOW NOTES: - Find Anjie on the Web https://www.anjiecho.com/ | Instagram https://www.instagram.com/anjiecho/?hl=en | Mindful Design Feng Shui School https://mindfuldesignschool.com - Anjie's books: https://amzn.to/3C6wzD3 & https://amzn.to/3laFTSQ - Our newsletter https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5e8f6eb5b68c420026bb933c to get show notes + essays by me, recs, etc. - Find me: @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en or I'm @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en - A few spots in the Creative Clinic: more info here https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic or email me (katie@letitouttt.com) : )  - : this episode is sponsored by Paleovalley--head over to paleovalley.com/letitout http://paleovalley.com/letitout for 15% off your first order! - For book recs, our bookshelf here https://amzn.to/3S8XZBi- and I made a shop https://shopmy.us/katiedalebout  with recs ...with shelves for guests  - If you have any questions for our upcoming Spiraling Q&A episode, email me (katie@letitouttt.com) :) Thanks so much for listening to this podcast.    IF YOU LIKED THIS EPISODE, TRY OUT: Episode 413 https://letitout.simplecast.com/episodes/anjie-cho-visits-my-apartment-moves-my-furniture-makes-it-all-better: Anjie Cho Moves My Furniture & Makes It All Better

Perfection Bubbles Burst: Musician Sam Burton on Collaboration, Tarot, Criticism & More

This week I spoke with Sam Burton. He’s an artist originally from Utah now living  in LA. Sam came over a few weeks ago and we drank tea and talked about everything from how he began playing music, to how he approaches collaboration, craft,  and criticism. He’s deeply introspective and after studying Jungian psychology, he began reading tarot for himself and others. We spoke about how he got into that as well as typology, Myers-Briggs, and dream work and how it impacts his songwriting. He’s candid about how “perfection bubbles” burst, how constructive feedback has shaped his sound, and  what he’s learned recently about sustaining a career in the music business, touring,  his thoughts on love, nature, friendship, the music that shaped him, and much more. I especially loved this one, Sam is easy to talk to, and wise. I Can't Believe I'm Still Doing This...10 Years! With Sacha Jones

This week, a very important person in my life—Sacha Jones—hosts the podcast. Every year for nearly a decade Sacha has come back on to host the episode the last week of April (the week of my birthday). This year we talked about how we met 10 years ago, how we've changed in the last decade, how this podcast has changed in ten years, what morning routines of each of us have made it 10 years, cringing at past versions of ourselves, and much more. Sacha is one of the most creative, wise, and gentle people I know and our annual catch-ups end up being time capsules of the year. I will be back on the other side of the interview next week but until then I hope this conversation makes you laugh, comforts you, or simply keeps you company you during your day.   SHOW NOTES: - Follow Sacha on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/stiggly/?hl=en - Sacha's general https://www.sachajones.com/ website | ceremonies https://www.sachajonesceremonies.com/about website - : this episode is sponsored by Paleovalley--head over to paleovalley.com/letitout http://paleovalley.com/letitout for 15% off your first order! - Sign up for Jésabel DC's (guest from two weeks ago!) and my Life Audit Workshop https://www.thelifestylelab.co/life-audit-workshop - May 2nd: I'm joining Christy Harrison (last week's guest) for her book launch at Chevalier's Books: Join us here https://f1v3ff69.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fus02web.zoom.us%2Fwebinar%2Fregister%2FWN_ANULPJzwRxOUygH6EQdIWg/1/01000187bf6ecc03-18da4192-00d1-4985-8415-e2504206f81c-000000/uhrJuci2Ru-b6S-wfcs3jj7Po34=319 - Find me: @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en or I'm @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en - The Write Kit https://www.letitoutkits.club/enroll/867383?price_id=929395 is now 33% off with code THIRTYTHREE - Our newsletter https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5e8f6eb5b68c420026bb933c to get show notes + essays by me, recs, etc. - A few spots in the Creative Clinic: more info here https://www.katiedalebout.com/creative-clinic or email me (katie@letitouttt.com) : )  - For book recs, our bookshelf here https://amzn.to/3S8XZBi- and I made a shop https://shopmy.us/katiedalebout  with recs ...with shelves for guests  - The Let It Out Kits https://www.katiedalebout.com/kits-shop: are self-study workshops for personal growing based on all I've ever learned and am learning.  Thanks so much for listening to this podcast.    IF YOU LIKED THIS EPISODE, TRY OUT: Episode 390 https://letitouttt.com/podcasts/little-things-annual-birthday-party-hosted-by-sacha-jones/ Little Things: Annual Birthday Party Hosted By Sacha Jones

Well-being > Wellness: Christy Harrison on the Care Effect, the Wellness Trap, History of Hysteria & Much More

This week I spoke to Christy Harrison, MPH, RD, who, in addition to being my close friend of over a decade, is someone whose work has significantly impacted me. As a journalist she’s covered food, nutrition, and health for more than 20 years. She's also a clinician working with people as a registered dietitian nutritionist and certified intuitive eating counselor. She helps tens of thousands of people around the world think critically about diet and wellness culture and develop more peaceful relationships with food. Her writing has appeared everywhere from New York Times to the Food Network, and she's written two books: 2019's https://christyharrison.com/book-anti-diet-intuitive-eating-christy-harrison and her latest, https://christyharrison.com/the-wellness-trap. We talked about how she’s handling the praise and criticism of a large platform, what well-being practices she does participate in, and in a clip from an interview I did with her on her new show Rethinking Wellness we talk about how we met in 2013. She asks me about how I got so into wellness culture so young and how my episode on her first show, Food Psych, where we talked about orthorexia was one of the early influences for this new book. We cover some topics from this book including how some of the pitfalls of modern healthcare can drive people to alternative wellness approaches and then how social media algorithms intensify this, leading people far down unexpected rabbit holes, what the care effect is, the history of the hysteria diagnosis, and much more.   SHOW NOTES: - My interview with Christy on well-being > wellness https://letitouttt.com/general/well-being-wellness/ - Find Christy on the Web https://christyharrison.com/ | Instagram https://www.instagram.com/chr1styharrison/?hl=en - Christy's podcasts: Rethinking Wellness https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rethinking-wellness-with-christy-harrison/id1676494602 & Food Psych https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/food-psych-podcast-with-christy-harrison/id700512884 - Christy's books: https://amzn.to/40z0LCE  & https://amzn.to/3Aga3bP - Sign up for Jésabel's (last week's guest) and my Life Audit Workshop https://www.thelifestylelab.co/life-audit-workshop - Find me: @letitouttt https://www.instagram.com/letitouttt/?hl=en or I'm @katiedalebout https://www.instagram.com/katiedalebout/?hl=en - The Podcast Kit https://www.katiedalebout.com/podcast-kitis 50% off with code SPRING  - Our newsletter https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5e8f6eb5b68c420026bb933c to get show notes + essays by me, recs, etc. IF YOU LIKED THIS EPISODE, TRY OUT: Episode 369 https://letitout.simplecast.com/episodes/seasons-of-overwhelm-with-christy-harrison-part-1: Seasons of Overwhelm with Christy Harrison (Part 1) Episode 354 https://letitout.simplecast.com/episodes/dont-let-it-get-you-down-savala-nolan-returns-part-1: Don't Let It Get You Down with Savala Nolan (Part 1)
