The Oilers' playoff drive, betting on the Jays, and navigating April Fool's Day

Monday means a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast is set and ready to launch you into the start of a new week. This week, the guys were discussing the Oilers' stretch drive, spring in Edmonton, and how this part of the year is one of the greatest times for sports. Kicking off the Monday episode of Real Life, the boys discussed the end of the Edmonton Oilers' 2023-24 campaign and how it's getting to the point where every game is exciting. Not only are the games exciting, but the boys are also playing some meaningful games down the stretch that still has them chasing the Vancouver Canucks for first place in the Pacific Division. Changing gears, the guys spent the next few minutes talking about betting on baseball after the new MLB season kicked off last week. One thing you'll learn as you get into betting on baseball is how far into the weeds you can get. As you'll hear, Tyler and his buddies go way out there when they're betting on baseball, and some of the bets they put down almost sound made up, given how random they are. Getting back to the Oilers, Tyler wanted to know who the fellas would name as the Oilers' MVP if we took Connor McDavid out of the equation. Even though McDavid has been undoubtedly fantastic, Tyler's point was that the team wouldn't be anywhere without Stuart Skinner. Had it not been for Skinner's incredible turnaround, the reality is that this season could have fallen off the rails.  👍🏼BET 99: HTTPS://BET99-8390734.HS-SITES.COM/OILERSNATION-B99NET-GIVEAWAY https://bet99-8390734.hs-sites.com/oilersnation-b99net-giveaway 👍🏼 DOORDASH: HTTPS://WWW.DOORDASH.COM/?UTM_SOURCE=WAVEMAKER&UTM_MEDIUM=INTEGRATION&UTM_CAMPAIGN=DOORDASH_CAN_Q4_2023_CX_CORE_INTEGRATIONS_NTL&UTM_TERM=THENATIONNETWORK https://www.doordash.com/?utm_source=wavemaker&utm_medium=Integration&utm_campaign=DoorDash_CAN_Q4_2023_CX_Core_Integrations_NTL&utm_term=TheNationNetwork 👍🏼 SNOW VALLEY AERIAL PARK: HTTPS://WWW.SNOWVALLEY.CA/AERIAL-PARK/ https://www.snowvalley.ca/aerial-park/ 👍🏼RAINBOW VALLEY CAMPGROUND: HTTPS://WWW.RAINBOW-VALLEY.COM/ https://www.rainbow-valley.com/ REACH OUT TO SALES@THENATIONNETWORK.COM TO CONNECT WITH OUR SALES TEAM AND DISCUSS OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTNER WITH US! Tyler's illness, Wanye's love of shrimp, and even more love for Zach Hyman

Is there anything better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to help you close out your week? Absolutely not. This Thursday, the squad was looking at the start of the 2024 MLB season, the Oilers' matchup versus the Kings, and the horrific stories kicking off in the world of hip hop. Kicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, Tyler walked the gang through the illness that kept him off the Monday episode of the podcast. As you'll hear, Yaremchuk gets a little bit graphic when describing his flu-related symptoms. Changing gears, the guy talked a little bit about sports, as the Oilers take on the Los Angeles Kings in a huge Pacific Division game, and the Toronto Blue Jays are getting set to kick off their 2024 MLB season. With baseball kicking off today, the guys looked at a few different stories from around the league, including the Shohei Ohtani betting scandal, the Jays' chances of making some noise, and what is going on with the Oakland A's. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of the Real Life Podcast with some March Madness talk after news started coming out about some of the star players signing huge endorsement contracts. That basketball talk led to further discussion about the Oilers, as the boys square off for a critical matchup against the LA Kings tonight at Rogers Place. * Hosted on Acast. A tough weekend for the Oilers, poop phone, and the Shohei Ohtani shenanigans

It was a tough weekend in Oilers land, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the Monday episode of Real Life. The real question, as always, was whether the guys would talk about the team or wander into topics unknown. Kicking off the podcast, the guys got started with a recap of Wanye's eventful weekend after an unexpected parenting challenge caught him completely off guard. As you'll hear, having children can be an adventure, and sometimes the result will be a disgusting mess you never expected. Changing gears, the guys got into some Oilers talk after what was a very difficult weekend in Ontario. After back-to-back losses in Toronto and Ottawa, the Oilers will need to check themselves in the mirror after some costly errors and poor ended up sewering their time in Ontario. No matter how you slice it, it was a tough weekend for Edmonton.  Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a look at the Shohei Ohtani situation with the Dodgers and how that story just gets more bizarre by the day. Needless to say, having this scandal break out so shortly after signing his monster contract in LA is the last thing the MLB needs. * Hosted on Acast. March Madness, Shohei Ohtani's translator, and a little bit of Oilers talk

It's Thursday afternoon, and that means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is all set and ready to massage your earholes. This week, the guys discussed the start of March Madness, the big Shohei Ohtani news, and gave a few takes on the Edmonton Oilers while they were at it.  Kicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a look at the Oilersnation March Madness bracket and how one of the favourites has already been eliminated from the tournament. With brackets across the Nation ruined after only one game, the guys had a good time walking through the first couple hours of the NCAA's big moment.  Changing gears, the guys spent the next few minutes talking about sports betting after the news broke this week that Shohei Ohtani's translator was fired for allegedly gambling on sports. Given how much money some of these companies are investing in pro leagues, is it really surprising to find out that people close to the game are putting bets down? Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the guys looked at tonight's rematch versus the Buffalo Sabres and how a win in this game would put Edmonton that much closer to catching the Vancouver Canucks. At 7-1-2 in their last 10 games, the Oilers definitely have a chance to chase down Vancouver, but they'll need to pick up wins against teams like the Sabres to make that happen.  * Hosted on Acast. Tyler gets engaged... for real this time

It's time for your regularly scheduled Monday afternoon episode of the Real Life Podcast. Only this time, the boys had some major news to talk about after Tyler finally got engaged to his lovely girlfriend, and it's not even a bit this time. Kicking off the Monday pod, the guys started with the breaking news from this past weekend that Tyler Yaremchuk got engaged to his longtime girlfriend. Given that this has been a running bit on the podcast for several years now, some people thought the engagement was a joke, but he actually did it for real this time.  Changing gears, the guys then recapped Jay's vacation to Hawaii and the business trip he took immediately afterward to Copenhagen to meet our new business daddies at Better Collective. As you'd imagine, going from Hawaii straight to Denmark is quite the piece of travel, and bopping all over the planet the way he has over the last couple of weeks has him feeling upside down. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of the podcast with a collection of random topics that ranged from March Madness to Oilers to why Wanye and Jay are invested in the Kate Middleton mystery. Needless to say, the end of this week's podcast was a classic dose of Real Life since no one could seem to stick to one topic for more than a few seconds.  * Hosted on Acast. Connor Brown's big night, the squirrels are back at Tyler's, and a mouse update from Wanye Manor

It's Thursday afternoon, and that means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is all set and ready to massage your earholes. This week, the guys discussed Connor Brown's first goal of the season and Zach Hyman's delayed hat trick and walked through another mouse update from Wanye Manor.  Kicking off the podcast, the guys started with a look back at last night's Oilers game and how it was one of the most fun games the boys have been to that was essentially meaningless. From Connor Brown scoring a big goal to Zach Hyman's delayed hat trick announcement, last night's 7-2 win https://publish.oilersnation.com/2024/03/13/instant-reaction-edmonton-oilers-down-capitals-7-2-in-high-scoring-affair/ over the Washington Capitals was arguably one of the most fun games we've ever attended.  Changing gears, Wanye gave the first mouse update from Wanye Manor in quite some time after he found another wee lad in his basement. Even though he thought this issue was all cleared up long ago, he quickly realized that was not the case at all after moving his couch downstairs and seeing another mouse staring back at him.  Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including the Flex mystery, some golf talk, and a whole lot of general shenanigans. Even though the podcast started talking about the Oilers, the show really took a left-hand turn along the way.  Today's episode is presented by DoorDash! Food takes, Oilers at the trade deadline recap, and a March Madness bracket challenge

It's Monday afternoon, and that means it's time for a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys discussed the Oilers' trade deadline and food takes and talked about some player movement that's happening in the NFL.  Starting off the Monday episode of Real Life, the podcast kicked off with a friendly banter about why this podcast hasn't had a new intro in months, immediately transitioning to Tyler's Door Dash order from Saturday. This casual conversation about food delivery led the hosts down a delightful rabbit hole of food takes, making the audience feel like they're part of the conversation.  Shifting the focus back to the Oilers, the hosts walked the audience through Edmonton's rollercoaster weekend. From a disappointing performance in Buffalo on Saturday to a satisfying rebound against the Penguins on Sunday, the inconsistency in their game was undeniably frustrating. The guys then discussed what the Vegas Golden Knights were able to do at the trade deadline, with Mark Stone and Alec Martinez both being added to the LTIR. That led to a discussion about whether or not the NHL needs to close that loophole, given how often it's been used over the last handful of years.  Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with an array of random topics, including the new season of Full Swing and Jake Paul fighting Mike Tyson a little bit later in the summer. The guys also decided that this would be the year everyone gets into March Madness, and issued a challenge for the podcast hosts to come up with their angle on the tournament. * Hosted on Acast. The Oilers making deals ahead of the trade deadline, and a mitt full of shenanigans

It's Thursday afternoon, and that means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is all set and ready to massage your earholes. This week, the guys were talking all about the NHL Trade Deadline after the Oilers pulled off a pair of trades leading up to the March 8th buzzer. Kicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys jumped in with a look at the two trades the Oilers have made so far. In one of those deals, Ken Holland bolstered the forward depth with the addition of Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick. In the second deal, Holland added another defender as he moved a 2027 4th-round pick to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Troy Stecher. Changing gears, Liam told the story of his virtual golf league and how he's dangerously close to having to sit in a Denny's for 24 hours as the league's loser. That led the guys to wonder how many pancakes they could eat after the rules of this golf group allow an hour to be taken off their time at Denny's for every pancake consumed. The most surprising part of the conversation, however, was how none of the three boys actually enjoy eating pancakes. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics after Tyler introduced a new segment that revolves around local Edmonton events. If you're looking for something to do this weekend, this new bit could be for you.  * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hip Hop stories, NHL salaries, and Tyler interviews Chris Pronger for O.N.E.

It's Monday afternoon, and that means it's time for a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to make sense of the world around us.  Kicking off the podcast, the guys started the show with a collection of random topics, including Sidney Crosby's career earnings, what the Oilers may do at the trade deadline, and some hip hop talk. Why is that how the podcast started? It's a fair question, but also completely expected, given the way this show goes.  Changing gears, Tyler told the story about interviewing Chris Pronger this morning at West Edmonton Mall. Despite Wanye's complaints about the way Pronger's tenure in Edmonton ended, Tyler explained how cool it was to interview an NHL Hall of Famer and ask a few questions about the 2006 Cup run.  Lastly, the guys wrapped up the first show of the week with more random topics, including which WEM entrance we park at and why Tyler should never cross Wanye for any reason. Despite having topics prepped for this week's show, this one was one of those podcasts where the guys got to none of them at all.  * Hosted on Acast. Some love for Moose Jaw, the Oilers won again, and mapping out Nation Con

Thursday afternoon means it's time for a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast, the show where the guys probably should talk about the Edmonton Oilers but probably won't get there in the end. Kicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a conversation about producer Pat Puff after he came through with a big save yesterday during Oilersnation Everyday when the Internet went down mid-show. Seeing that there was a problem, Pat jumped to attention and saved the day by joining the broadcast to keep things going while Frank Seravalli was talking about the trade deadline.  With the praising of Pat out of the way, the conversation turned to Wanye's trip to Moose Jaw from last weekend. Even though that trip had nothing to do with anything, the guys still spent 20 minutes talking about it anyway. After discussing everything from Mac the Moose to the Al Capone tunnels, the conversation somehow turned to West Edmonton Mall and how much Bourbon Street has changed over the last two decades.  Finally getting to the Oilers, the guys looked at last night's win over the St. Louis Blues and how that game was both thrilling and frustrating at the same time. Yet, before they spent even 30 seconds talking about the game, the conversation turned to literally anything other than hockey, which is what you probably expected from the Real Life podcast.  * Hosted on Acast. The Oilers struggles, Knoblauch's line combos, and some visitors from out of town

The snow is flying in Edmonton, the Oilers lost their third straight game against the hated Calgary Flames, and that meant a whole lot for the boys to talk about on the Monday episode of Real Life. Kicking off the podcast, the guys started the podcast by welcoming Dooks from Australia and Brandon from Illinois to the podcast to talk about their respective trips to Edmonton to watch the Oilers. From the way Nation Citizens have stepped up to make their trips feel more special to experiencing Rogers Place for the first time, it was so much fun to hear the boys talk about what it's been like to visit our city and view it through their eyes.  Getting back to the regularly scheduled programming, the guys tried to figure out what the hell is happening with the Edmonton Oilers and why the team seems to be struggling so immensely right now. For whatever reason, the Oilers are playing as porously as they were early in the season, and the result is giving up goals en masse, and those lapses are costing them games. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a look at Kris Knoblauch's line combos and how there are some players who probably deserve more ice time than they're getting, even though the coach doesn't seem to agree. As an example, when Dylan Holloway is leading the team in shots against the Flames, would it not have made sense to give him a few extra shifts to see if he could make good on all that hard work? * Hosted on Acast. Watching a game at Mullett Arena, Oilers lose to the Bruins, and Evan Bouchard's contract

The boys are back from the Arizona #NationVacation, which meant there was a lot to talk about on the Thursday episode of the Real Life podcast. Kicking off the podcast, the guys got started with a recap of the trip to Scottsdale and how it was one of the greatest weekends any of the guys have ever experienced. From going to a game at Mullett Arena to the pre and post-game show at Devil's Advocate to cruising around in autonomous cars, there were plenty of stories to cover despite the trip being only 47 hours. Getting back to the Oilers, the guys walked through the experience of watching the game in a rink that small and how it was an electric environment to watch a game. To put it lightly, it was absolutely bananas to go to an away game in another country that felt just like a home game at Rogers Place. The unfortunate part is that there's no way an arena that small should be part of the National Hockey League so everyone just felt lucky that they were able to experience it at least once. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a look at last night's loss to the Bruins https://publish.oilersnation.com/2024/02/21/gdb-53-0-wrap-up-edmonton-oilers-drop-6-5-overtime-thriller-to-boston-bruins/ and how that game was both thrilling and frustrating at the same time. From the way the boys stunk it up in the second period to the missed PP opportunity in OT, the first matchup of the season against Boston was a rollercoaster of emotions.  * Hosted on Acast. Worldly doppelgangers, Jordan Eberle trade rumours, and the #NationVacation countdown

Thursday afternoon means it's time for a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast, the show where the guys want to talk about the Edmonton Oilers but probably won't get there in the end. Kicking off the podcast, the guys got started with a random collection of topics, including an homage to the Crushed Can in Moose Jaw and a conversation about whether or not Chinese Elon Musk is real. While everyone other than Wanye thinks fake Elon is a real person, one of the greatest things to happen in the social media era is having all of these celebrity look-alikes popping up all over the world. Getting back to the Oilers, the boys discussed the Jordan Eberle rumour, as varying insiders have linked the Oilers to their former friends as a potential trade target. The guys also talked about this weekend's trip down to Arizona for the #NationVacation, and how they all think Mullett Arena will be half-full of Oilers fans. Could it be possible that the place will have more Oilers fans than Coyotes fans? Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with more randomness, diving into topics that ranged from parenthood, everyone's love of Hunter the Lynx, world travel, and why Mr. Beast changes his YouTube thumbnails as often as he does. If you're a fan of Real Life episodes that have absolutely no structure then this Thursday edition of the podcast is definitely for you.  * Hosted on Acast. The Super Bowl, Usher's halftime show, and planning Connor McDavid's wedding

The boys were all in the studio for once, The Super Bowl needed recapping, and that meant a whole lot for the boys to talk about on the Monday episode of Real Life.  Kicking off the podcast, the guys started with a recap of The Super Bowl before the conversation was quickly derailed by Chalmers trying to explain why he missed last Thursday's episode. Instead of getting back to The Super Bowl, they then spent some time talking about the City and Colour concert at Rogers Place on Saturday night and how it was a fantastic evening of music even though Dallas Green didn't play some of the hits.  Getting back to football, the guys walked through The Super Bowl between the 49ers and Chiefs and how the start of that football game was so incredibly boring. Thankfully, the back half picked up significantly before having the game reach its conclusion on a perfect drive by Pat Mahomes in OT. With three championships in the last five seasons, is Mahomes putting himself into the conversation to be one of the greatest athletes of all time? Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a little bit of Oilers talk after the 4-0 drubbing by the Kings https://publish.oilersnation.com/2024/02/10/gdb-48-0-wrap-up-kings-kick-off-post-mclellan-era-with-big-win-over-oilers/ on Saturday night. As you'd expect, however, the conversation lasted about 15 seconds before the topic changed to Connor McDavid's wedding and how he is not at all involved in the planning process. That gave the boys a window to do some planning for him, offering up their ideas on what would make a perfect wedding day for the Oilers captain.  * Hosted on Acast. Oilers trade rumours, starting a new win streak, and the #NationVacation to Arizona

Thursday afternoon means it's time for a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast, the show where the guys want to talk about the Edmonton Oilers but probably won't get there in the end.  Kicking off the podcast, the guys got started as randomly as you'd expect from this podcast. First, Tyler revealed that he forgot his iPad on the plane on his way back from Toronto and how his own laziness is preventing him from going back to the airport to pick it up. He also touched on the continued neighbour drama on his street and how the levels of pettiness have risen to unprecedented levels.  Turning the podcast back toward the Oilers, the guys walked through the Oilers' loss to Las Vegas https://publish.oilersnation.com/2024/02/06/gdb-46-0-wrap-up-historic-winning-streak-comes-to-an-end-as-oilers-dropped-by-golden-knights/ and how it was a tough pill to swallow, given how well the visitors played in that contest. Yet, despite the hard-fought battle, some fans took the result way harder than they should have. If you read some of the comments at Oilersnation.com and on our social media, you'd think the Oilers had just lost 16 games in a row instead of winning them.  Lastly, the fellas walked through their excitement for the upcoming Nation Vacation to Arizona and how this trip to the Mullett Arena could end up as a bucket list item. Seeing as there are plenty of rumours that the team could be moving as early as next year, watching the Oilers play in an arena that small has the guys extremely excited about what's to come in under two short weeks. * Hosted on Acast. NHL All-Star Game, celebrity sightings, and the Oilers shoot for 17 straight wins

The boys are back from Toronto, All-Star Game weekend has wrapped, and everyone was back in Edmonton for the first in-studio episode of Real Life in quite some time.  Kicking off the podcast, the guys started with a recap from Toronto and what the boys experienced in the days leading up to the NHL's annual all-star weekend. From the moment the boys arrived in Toronto until the time everyone got back to Edmonton, there was so much going on in the 6ix that it took almost half the podcast to get through all of the stories. From Bublé's confession at the player draft to the way the players navigated the skills competition and the game itself, there was plenty to talk about after what was a very busy few days on the road. Changing gears, the guys spoke about the 4 Nations tournament between Canada, the USA, Finland, and Sweden that the NHL will hold next year during a similar break that the players would get for the Olympics. While some of the guys appreciate the idea of best-on-best, others feel like a tournament with only four teams seems like a waste of time, even though the league will undoubtedly secure the bag. Either way, one thing everyone can agree on is that it will be fantastic to see Connor McDavid wearing a Canadian jersey for the first time since the World Juniors tournament.  Changing gears, the podcast turned toward a random collection of topics, including a tribute to the amazing roles Carl Weathers played over the years, the endless talents of Flava Flav, Tyler going to the Nelly Furtado concert even though he thought he was seeing Nelly. They also spoke about the Grammys for a few minutes after Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs gave a beautiful rendition of Fast Car, which happened to be the first time the former has performed in years.  * Hosted on Acast. Two-Time Olympic Gold Medalist John Morris & a welcome to Trav4Oilers

With the guys busy al NHL All-Star weekend, Tyler handled today's episode of the podcast and was joined by two guests. First off, he was joined by two-time Olympic gold medalist John Morris. One of the most decorated curlers of his era, Morris hopped on the pod and shared stories of his career. He talked about his experience at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and had a hilarious story about the condom usage at the athletes village. He also played a little rapid fire and since he's a die-hard Oilers fan, he also talked about how much he's loving the 16-game winning streak and told Tyler about the best Oilers game he ever attended. Tyler was then joined by new teammate Trav4Oilers. He's a goalie vlogger and had some cool stories about his life in various pro-hockey leagues. * Hosted on Acast. The Oilers' perfect January, smoked meat, and Jay's lofty trade deadline plan

The Oilers just wrapped up a perfect month of January, Chalmers was back with a tooth-brushing update, and that meant a whole lot to talk about on the Monday episode of the Real Life podcast.  Kicking off the podcast, the boys got started with a fresh round of podcast reviews that included a truckload of feedback regarding Chalmers' dental hygiene. In terms of connecting with the audience, it's been a minute since any show stories have landed as well as this one. Changing gears, the podcast turned toward Chalmers' gripe with smoking meat. Even though he's always dreamt of being a meat smoker guy, the fact that he doesn't like the food he produces is absolutely hilarious.  Changing gears, the guys spent the next few minutes discussing the Nation Vacation to Arizona that's coming up in a few short weeks and why you need to be a part of this trip. With only four spots available, the guys tried to incentivize signing up with some of the worst ideas humanly possible. Sticking with the Oilers, Jay laid out his pitch for why Edmonton should chase Sidney Crosby as a potential deadline target. As you'll hear, Jay was incredibly passionate about the idea, only to have that enthusiasm quelled by an unimpressed Tyler Yaremchuk Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of the podcast with a look at the Super Bowl after Tyler tweeted that it's going to be the worst final of all time. Tyler's opinion wasn't shared by everyone, however, as the San Francisco versus Kansas City matchup does have more intrigue than maybe one might expect.  * Hosted on Acast. The Edmonton Oilers may never lose again, and Tyler's salary cap game

It's amazing how much more fun it is to talk about the Edmonton Oilers in the midst of a 14-game heater than it was when they started the season at 2-9-1. Kicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys looked at the Oilers' incredible winning streak and how they have an opportunity to cash in on a 15th consecutive victory. Talking about the win streak led the guys to swoon about Sam Gagner's contributions to the team and how they cannot wait to see him play his first playoff game with the team that drafted him. Changing gears, Tyler told a story about his basement flooding this morning. If you remember, this is the second flooded basement he's been involved in, but now it's in his own house instead of his father-in-law's house. Turning the podcast back toward the Oilers, the guys tried to determine whether the Oilers would have been able to get close to their current level if Jay Woodcroft had not been around. Or has Kris Knoblauch changed things enough to have the Oilers buzzing the way they are? Combination of both? Regardless of where your opinion lies, the good news is that we're here and that Woody is still getting paid anyway. With no topics on the list, Tyler then walked through a bunch of historical cap information, and the guys played a game of guessing which players made more money. * Hosted on Acast. The Jasper recap finale, and breaking down Corey Perry signing with the Oilers

Monday afternoon meant another episode of the Real Life Podcast to kick off your week and recap what's been going on over the last few days. On today's podcast, the guys finished off the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament recap they started on Saturday and broke down the Oilers' decision to sign Corey Perry to a one-year contract.  Kicking off the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys jumped in with a recap of the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament that happened after the Saturday check-in episode. If you listened to that show, you knew that the rest of the day was going to turn into a hurricane, and that's exactly what happened. Changing gears, the guys dove into the news that Corey Perry signed a one-year deal with the Oilers to finish the year in Edmonton. Seeing as Perry was almost an Oiler 20 years ago, it seems almost surreal that the guy landed here almost two decades after the fabled Mike Comrie trade didn't happen. Now that Perry is here, where does he fit in the lineup? Given that he won't play until Saturday, there's plenty of time to figure out where he's going to play, but there's little doubt that the boys are excited to watch him do his thing. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a look at the Buffalo Bills' loss from yesterday and how the result really ruined Tyler's weekend  * Hosted on Acast. Checking in from the Jasper pond hockey tournament

The boys are spending the weekend in Jasper for the annual pond hockey tournament, and that meant the perfect opportunity for an on-location episode of the Real Life Podcast.  Kicking off the podcast, the guys started talking about the pond hockey tournament and how it's incredible to be here for a third straight year. As you'd expect, talking about the tournament didn't last long before the shenanigans crept in and derailed the whole thing. Despite being unable to stay on track, it's clear that the fellas were thrilled to be back at the tournament. From bringing the house down on night one to the battle against Flamesnation to kick off day two, this episode of Real Life is about as unhinged as it gets. As you'll hear, Christopher K. Chalmers was an absolute menace on today's show and that meant a very tough job for producer Pat as he tried to edit this thing to a point where it's fit for consumption. Needless to say, this was one for the ages. * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Oilers are red-hot & the guys talk about local hockey

The guys are back with a Monday edition of the podcast and by the guys, we mean Tyler, Wanye, and Liam. It wasn’t the usual crew, but they were up to their usual nonsense as they talked about local hockey, life and the red-hot Edmonton Oilers. Liam and Wanye went out and watched a Sherwood Park Crusaders over the weekend and they talked about the state of the team and also, how the business of a Junior A hockey team works. 15 years ago, Wanye got turned down for a job with the team, so why was he back? Listen to find out! By the half way point of the pod, Chalmers had joined the guys and talked about the upcoming Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament that he and Yaremchuk will be participating in our at the Fairmont JPL. Tourism Jasper and Booster Juice are sponsoring the team this year, so Tyler and Chals are feeling the pressure to bring home a title for team Oilersnation. They wrapped things up with some NFL Football talk. Liam’s Lions won a big game and he celebrated in typical Liam fashion. Tyler’s Bills have a big game today as well, which is why he was trying to rush the guys as much as possible during the hour-long pod. Oh, the Oilers have also won a FRANCHISE RECORD 10 STRAIGHT HOCKEY GAMES! They did talk about that a little bit. * Hosted on Acast. A tribute to Robin Brownlee

It's a very tough day for all of us at Oilersnation as news broke earlier this afternoon that our own Robin Brownlee passed away at 65 years old. The guys got hit with some devastating news right before the podcast started when they learned about Robin Brownlee's unexpected passing. As a major piece and founding member of Oilersnation, losing Brownlee so suddenly was a jolt to the system that none of the guys could have ever expected. As a result, today's episode of the Real Life podcast paid tribute to a man who helped build The Nation Network into what it is today. From being the first "real" writer to join Oilersnation and add some credibility to the site to offering reasoned analysis no matter the situation, Robin Brownlee has been a pillar for this website for the last 15 years, and the guys wanted to tell a few behind the scenes stories to honour a great writer, a better person, and a fantastic dad. * Hosted on Acast. Chalmers went to Oilers practice, Campbell trade rumours, and Tiger leaves NIKE

There was plenty to talk about on the Monday episode of the Real Life podcast as the Oilers wrapped up a seventh straight win over the weekend against the Senators, but the real question is always whether the boys get to the hockey talk or not. The fellas started the podcast with a dose of NFL talk after the Buffalo Bills clinched their playoff spot, leading Tyler to explain how the playoffs are better when Buffalo is involved. That led the guys to talk about which NHL teams would be in the same category. Outside of the original six teams, are there any other teams that you love to watch or hate during the playoffs? Changing gears, Chalmers told the story about watching the Oilers at practice this past week and how it was an incredible experience for the kids he coaches. Sticking with the Oilers, Tyler wanted to break down some of the latest Jack Campbell rumours after an NHL insider revealed that it would cost Edmonton two first-round picks to get rid of the goaltender. Would it make sense for the Oilers to pay such a premium? Next up, the guys looked at NIKE's decision to part ways with Tiger Woods after 27 years and how it's almost unimaginable that he will no longer be representing the brand in the future. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics that ranged from Zach Hyman's heater to Chalmers' hatred of Stanley mugs.  * Hosted on Acast. The first Real Life podcast of 2024 was all over the place

It's the first episode of the Real Life Podcast since before the Christmas Break, which meant the boys had plenty to talk about. Kicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the boys got started with a conversation about the Christmas break and how to make it through the festivities without being hungover the whole time. As you'll hear, the answer is likely to add more soda water to your life. Changing gears, the guys talked about the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament that's coming up later in the month and how they need to strategize a little bit more this year if the goal is to win. And since there will be new players on the Oilersnation team, the returning vets will need to make sure the newbies are pulling their own weight. Shifting topics once more, the guys recapped some of the gifts that were given to some of the kids in their families. Needless to say, the toys kids were getting in 2023 were nothing like what the guys were getting when they were children. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a lightning round of topics from Chalmers, as he basically covered everything he missed over the last couple of weeks.  * Hosted on Acast. Merry Christmas from The Real Life Crew

In the final episode before the holiday break, the guys got together and shared memories of Christmas past. They talked about some of their favourite memories from their childhoods and also, talked about what they're looking forward to this year. There wasn't a lot of Oilers talk, because the guys have decided they'd rather not put themselves into a depressive state, so they just kept it to Christmas talk and nonsense. Things did get off the rails quite a bit, but they always worked it back to their central theme for the day. Chalmers also had a new edition of Keep It 100, where he ranted about how aggressive people are getting in malls nowadays. Is he right in his observation? Or is he just becoming a grump old man? They wrapped up the show by having Chalmers assign New Years resolutions for all the other guys on the podcast. * Hosted on Acast. Are puzzles an acceptable gift, Cabela's Santa, and the Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers lost their last two hockey games in disappointing fashion, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the Monday episode of the Real Life Podcast. As always, the real question was whether or not the boys would actually talk about those games or not.  Kicking off the Monday episode of Real Life, the boys got started with a recap of Tyler's holiday party and how the gift exchange to a real turn when one of his friends brought a puzzle. Unfortunately for Tyler, his hatred of puzzles didn't fly in the room as pretty much everyone jumped to defend the gift. After the puzzle talk subsided, the guys then spent a bunch of time talking about board games being underrated and how this time of year is the perfect time to pull them out. Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the boys discussed Saturday's loss to Florida and how it was a frustrating night for an Oilers team that had been playing so well in the weeks beforehand. From start to finish, the Oilers did not look like the club that had won eight games in a row, as they basically gave the Florida Panthers all the time and space they needed to run away with the evening. Given how poorly that game went, the guys spent a couple of minutes wondering how close Ken Holland is from making a move to try and help the current group, given that a handful of other contenders are actively addressing holes on their rosters.  * Hosted on Acast. Tyler's golf hypothetical, neighbourhood drama, and the Oilers' win streak

There was plenty to talk about on the Thursday episode of the Real Life podcast as the Oilers fish for a ninth consecutive win tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but the real question is always whether the boys get to the hockey talk or not.  Kicking off the podcast, the fellas got started with a dose full of shenanigans after Tyler walked into the podcast studio with a litre of cola that sent the boys down a rabbit hole. It started with wondering how much sugar you're allowed to consume in a day and somehow ended up with a conversation about whether or not you could play a -10 round of golf at Augusta if you had unlimited mulligans. Somehow, the shenanigans led to an update from Tyler about his neighbourhood drama that revolved around a parking beef between two households. Changing gears, the boys spent a few minutes talking about the Oilers' eight-game winning streak and how it's a run that can keep going, provided that the Oilers keep up their level of play. Lastly, the Thursday episode of the podcast wrapped up with another round of Chalmers construction corner as he tabled the idea of making content on YouTube if he could figure out how to make it work. Would the Nation be willing to give him an intern to film his day job? Probably not, but there's little doubt that there's an appetite for more Chalmers construction content.  * Hosted on Acast. The Oilers are streaking, Ohtani disappointment, and the fall of Blackberry

The Oilers just keep winning hockey games, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the Monday episode of the Real Life Podcast. Kicking off the Monday episode of Real Life, the boys got started with some Oilers talk after the team won its seventh consecutive game and how it's been fun to watch the team rebound after such a disastrous start. That's not to say there's not plenty of work left to do, but the way the Oilers are playing right now is inspiring a sense of confidence that they'll be able to drag themselves back into a playoff position. Sticking with yesterday's game, Wanye took Wanye Jr. to his first NHL game and told the story of what it was like to have the little man experiencing the day. Changing gears, the guys looked at Ohtani Watch that took over the country on Friday and how it was a wild rollercoaster of emotions as everyone went from thinking he was signing in Toronto to obviously ending up with the LA Dodgers. Pivoting once more, Jay went to the FIS Big Air World Cup at Commonwealth Stadium and ended up having a blast despite the fact that it wasn't well advertised this year. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a business chat after Wanye watched the Blackberry movie about the company's demise after the launch of the iPhone.  * Hosted on Acast.
