It is no accident that Jesus arrived on the scene when Israel was under foreign rule. Roman rulers allowed Jews to live and worship as Jews, but only under the ultimate control of Roman law and authority. They lived under the shadow of oppression. The birth of Jesus was a light on the horizon, and a fulfillment of prophecy. We, even today, are surrounded by darkness, but there is more than light on the horizon.
