Following Jesus Out of the Grave

For the last few weeks, we've learned about how the disciples found it impossible to believe that Jesus was actually going to die. How much harder must it have been for them to believe He would rise from the dead? But just as His death brought them to a place of depression and fear, His resurrection would bring them to a place of joy and victory! Let's look at how Jesus' resurrection changes us; how it is the guarantee of His most important promise. Let's talk about Following Jesus Out of the Grave! * Hosted on Acast. Finishing Your Course p3

Tonight Pastor Mike encourages us to finish our course by living a life of faith and following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Part of this is knowing God's word, running the race of life with endurance, and using the name of Jesus to overcome challenges. We will also face challenges to our faith, such as failure to understand righteousness, failure to act upon the word of God, and failure to hold fast to our confession of faith. In the end, we must trust in God, live by faith, and stay committed to our walk with Christ. * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

Following Jesus to the Cross Pt 3: Two Prayers and a Prophecy

An amazing portion of the gospel accounts takes place between Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem and His crucifixion. We're going to be looking at three statements made during that week: one from the high priest, one from the Jewish masses, and one from the religious leaders, and see how they can be interpreted as prophecy and prayers that continue to echo through the ages. Join us as we continue Following Jesus to the Cross! * Hosted on Acast. Finishing Your Course

Drawing from Philippians and 2 Timothy, Pastor Mike emphasizes the importance of pressing forward in faith, despite obstacles and temptations. Using the example of Jesus' temptation in Luke 4, we see the power of God's Word in overcoming challenges and we are encouraged to remain rooted in God's Word. Pastor Mike also highlights the need for vigilance against spiritual attacks, urging believers to resist the enemy and stand firm in their faith. We have authority and victory available to us through Christ. * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

Following Jesus to the Cross

It's amazing to think about all the things Jesus did, all the people He impacted, and all the places He went in just three years of ministry on earth. Scripture even makes it clear that He did many, many more things that are not recorded. But never forget, that everywhere He went, everything He did, and everyone He met, took Him one step closer to His crucifixion. Join us for a new series as we begin "Following Jesus to the Cross". * Hosted on Acast. The Abanah and the Pharpar

Despite knowing infinitely less than He does, we often find ourselves attempting to revise the Lord's instructions. Why do we do this? God has our best interest at heart, and even though we sometimes have our own "great plans," His direction requires no amending on our part. * Hosted on Acast. More Love

It seems incredible, but it often happens that in our efforts to be better at serving, obeying, studying, praying, etc, we forget, for all intents and purposes, that the defining characteristic of the Christian life is LOVE. We say we know it, but it is easy to lose sight of the fact that all those other pursuits are futile without the overarching motive of love. Love for God, for our neighbor, for the lost, and for the brethren. * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chruch Growth

Christ has bestowed upon the church a diverse array of gifts — apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—each with a distinct role in equipping God's people for service and nurturing the body of Christ. This divine orchestration is designed to foster unity, maturity, and spiritual resilience within the church, guiding believers toward a deepened faith and knowledge of God's Son. This also illuminates a powerful blueprint for church growth and unwavering commitment to truth and love. * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

Revival Fire

Revival must first come through the church! Is the church slumbering in survival mode? As long as we are trying to just survive or get by, we will lose our perspective to revive. We will live an apathetic existence. We must be revived so that we can reach out to the world with the Gospel, and do it in the power of God. “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot." Revelation 3:15 "Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?" Psalm 85:6 * Hosted on Acast. Not everyone is called to occupational ministry. All, however, are called to preach the Gospel. How do natural giftings, spiritual gifts, and ministry gifts interact, and what does that mean regarding the responsibilities of the Christian layman?  * Hosted on Acast. The Full Gospel?

What kind of church are we? Charismatic? Word of Faith? Non-Denominational? Full Gospel? The danger and weakness of clinging to certain descriptives is that some of them are loaded with presuppositional baggage, and all fall short of truly answering the question "what kind of church are we?" This is true of almost all churches. We make assumptions about what a person believes based on the denomination with which he or she is affiliated. Since Living Word Family Church desires to "Live the Gospel and Preach the Gospel", let's take a look at what the phrase "Full Gospel" means to us with a fresh look at the Baptism of the Holy Spirit! * Hosted on Acast. Ready to Go Home

We see the crazy direction the world, and our society is headed and we look to the heavens and say "I'm ready to go Home." The early church, from the moment Jesus ascended, was looking to His return. However, there is a purpose in God's delay... we have a job to do while we wait. * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

Appetite for Construction

Many, many people have succumbed to destructive lifestyles. Not just bad habits that hurt themselves, but a way of living that tears down those around them as well. As believers, we are called to edify ourselves and one another. Join us as Pastor Scott fills in some gaps from last week and let's learn about developing a desire to build (edify) the church and ourselves, and cultivate an appetite for the things of God. * Hosted on Acast. Holy Fire

Fire releases stored energy, in doing so, it gives off light, heat, and power. God wants His church (you and me!) to be a firestorm in the earth that destroys the work of the devil. Tonight we'll look at some examples of people in God's Word who were on fire for the Kingdom. We need the baptism of the Holy Spirit and FIRE for the Kingdom. * Hosted on Acast. It's Not (just) About You

It's useful, during a fast, to focus on our own spiritual development, but one of the things we learn as we get into the habit of prayer is that we have the privilege of bringing the power of God into the situations of others. What a joy it is to know that the God who loves us and makes promises to us is unlimited in His capacity to heal, deliver, and prosper ALL who call upon His name. and that He hears the prayers of the righteous! * Hosted on Acast. Why We Fast

As we begin week 2 of our church-wide 21 day fast, let's take a fresh look at why we do this. We know it doesn't impress God; it doesn't earn us anything from Him. Does it supercharge our prayer life? Does it make us holy? Let's take a closer look at what God's word actually says about fasting, what it DOESN'T say about fasting, and let's allow His word to provide the motive and answer our questions. * Hosted on Acast. Mind Renewal

The mind is the control center of your life. If you control your mind, you control your destiny. The things we set our minds on, soon become behaviors. Our carnal minds are selfish and cause us to separate ourselves from God. We must continually renew our minds and draw close to Christ. "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be [a]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." Romans 8:5-6 * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

2024 Fast, Week 1: Holy Drudgery

For some people, coming off the busyness and the legitimate preoccupation of celebrating Christmas produces a kind of postpartum depression. After the decorations, presents, company, and feasting, it can be hard to go back to the daily grind. But the word of God has plenty to say about that. We, as believers, can and must go about our daily tasks, even the mundane ones, with a sense of purpose and even joy. Fasting is one tool available to assist us in pursuit of transforming drudgery into a satisfying and meaningful life. * Hosted on Acast. Welcome to My World

Jesus was born, the scripture tells us, "when the fullness of time had come". We may find it easy to criticize those in Judea at the time for not recognizing their Messiah. They longed for the Messiah, but, as we have seen over and over again, they weren't prepared for Him to come as He did. They had some very specific ideas of what the Messiah should be and do, but He turned many of those notions upside down, starting with His very birth. Are we truly prepared for what Jesus wants to do when we invite him to enter our lives? Join us as we say to Jesus, "welcome to my world"! * Hosted on Acast. Celebrating Christmas in Darkness

"It's the most wonderful time of the year!" That really is how many feel about the Christmas season. But even during this time of giving, decorating, singing, feasting, and otherwise celebrating, there are people suffering. Sickness, bereavement, debt, and a host of other circumstances can quickly rob people of the joy of the season. On a larger scale, is it even appropriate to celebrate when so much is going wrong in the world at this moment? Is it selfish? Join us Sunday morning as we examine the legitimacy of celebrating Christmas even when things are not wonderful! * Hosted on Acast. Hope on the Horizon

It is no accident that Jesus arrived on the scene when Israel was under foreign rule. Roman rulers allowed Jews to live and worship as Jews, but only under the ultimate control of Roman law and authority. They lived under the shadow of oppression. The birth of Jesus was a light on the horizon, and a fulfillment of prophecy. We, even today, are surrounded by darkness, but there is more than light on the horizon. Join us as we discover what it means to be light in the darkness. * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

Joy Filled Living p2

Tonight, Pastor Mike uncovers a transformative truth that lies within John 15:11. In this verse, Jesus invites us into a profound revelation—that His very words are intended to be the foundation of our joy. As we continually confess the truths of what we possess in Christ and echo the magnitude of what God has done for us, our joy becomes a steadfast, internal compass that guides our actions, decisions, and perspectives. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full." - John 15:11 "Holy joy will oil the wheels of your life's machinery. Holy joy will strengthen you for your daily labor. Holy joy will beautify you and give you an influence over the lives of others" Charles Spurgeon * Hosted on Acast. What Did Mary Know?

Mary, the mother of Jesus, obviously holds a special place in the observance of Advent and the Christmas story. Some traditions elevate her to almost a fourth member of the Trinity, and others, perhaps, tend to make too little of the extraordinary role she played in the incarnation of the Word. Joy Filled Living

In our journey as Christians, we are called to embrace a profound sense of joy that transcends circumstances, a joy rooted not in fleeting situations but in the unwavering promises and character of our Heavenly Father. Despite this divine invitation to abundant life and overflowing joy, we often find ourselves allowing the challenges and trials of life to overshadow the Joy of the Lord. John 10:10 reminds of the stark contrast between the enemy's schemes and God's intentions for our lives. This verse serves as a beacon of hope, urging us to recalibrate our perspective, to anchor our joy not in circumstances but in the abundant life Jesus offers—a life brimming with His promises, His presence, and His overflowing grace. * Hosted on Acast. Between the Feasts

Sometimes, after all the preparation and celebration that go hand-in-hand with a major holiday, a kind of post-partum depression sets in. Sometimes, we move straight into fretting mode getting ready for the next big thing. It's a busy time of year; how do we accomplish all our tasks and still find peace, still find joy, and still bring glory to God in the middle of all of it? * Hosted on Acast.
