(CNN) - ChatGPT failed to identify Japan's Digital Minister Kono Taro even as he advocated greater use of artificial intelligence (AI) to overcome labor shortages caused by a declining population.
"I asked ChatGPT who Kono Taro was and ChatGPT gave the wrong answer. So users need to be cautious," Mr. Kono said in an interview with Bloomberg that aired on May 15. When asked how ChatGPT responded when he asked this chatbot who he was, Mr. Kono said ChatGPT called him the prime minister of Japan.
Kono made the remarks as Prime Minister Kishida Fumio set up a panel to review the economic potential and risks of AI, seeking to take the lead in regulating the technology as a leader, according to Bloomberg. G7 presidency in 2023. The digital ministers of the Group of 7 leading industrialized countries (G7) in April agreed on an action plan to promote "trusted AI".
