As patients live longer their needs are becoming more acute during surgery; this piece asks how we can adapt practice to meet the new challenges this brings. These talks take a long view across the perioperative continuum with a focus upon cognitive impairment and other vulnerable brain patients.

Presented by Laura MacDarby, Consultant Anaesthetist in The Royal London Hospital, a referral centre for Major Trauma and Stroke in the Whitechapel area of London and Roisin Coary, SpR in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine, with a specialist interest in Peri-operative Medicine, currently based in Dublin, Ireland.
