About

This episode was originally on October 14th, 2020. It was the second time Jen Rivera Bell was on the podcast.

The first time Jen joined the podcast she and Carly talked about the beautiful intersections of her identity; being Indigenous, vegan, low waste, a mother, an activist, a lover of Mother Earth and so much more. Listen to Jen's first interview on the podcast from 2020!

In the light of systemic injustices, in this episode Jen and I delve into the harsh realities Indigenous communities have faced throughout history and the lasting scars of colonization. We dissect historical stereotypes and false narratives, highlighting the significance of diverse representation in literature and media. We reflect on the importance of self-education and being proactive allies of Indigenous communities, stressing the urgency of unlearning the whitewashed accounts of their history.

As we conclude this episode, Jen and I share actionable insights on fostering positive change, particularly in educating and empowering the future generation. Drawing from personal experiences, we discuss the necessity of engaging in tough conversations with our children and how healing generational wounds can herald a better future. We underscore the importance of understanding Indigenous history, traditions, and culture, urging our listeners to immerse themselves in Indigenous literature, attend relevant seminars, and engage with local organizations.
