In 2016 singer Nika Comet and guitarist Alexander Mishustov took a one-way ticket from Moscow, Russia to Los Angeles, CA with just a guitar, a microphone, and a passion for artistry in music.High school sweethearts, eco-vegan activists, Nika and Alex, fell in love while playing in a band named The Sun. At the age of 11, Frank appeared on the singing competition shows "Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento" and "La Voz Kids" as a Mariachi-style soloist. However, he also faced cyberbullying and assumptions about his sexuality as he was in the spotlight, making him hesitant to express himself due to his conservative upbringing. Music became his solace and he gained the confidence to embrace his true self over time. Eventually, Frank came out to his parents and received their full support. “MUSIC MATTERS CHALLENGE” that will be launching on March 26, coinciding with “MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH,” a national online music challenge that will help raise awareness and dedicate resources for music programs in the nation’s underserved schools. Two grand prizes will be awarded – one for an individual ($10,000 in cash and the opportunity to select a music teacher to receive a three year salary); and one for school entries (a $25,000 school grant). John created the challenge with Cayley Tullman of the Tullman Family Office, after the Grammy nominated singer/songwriter, Tullman, and a group of eight students participated in weekly after-school workshops to compose an original song, “LET MUSIC FILL MY WORLD,” which expressed why music mattered in their lives.
