Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Saturday afternoon, the Ohio State women's basketball team did something few expected them to do in Seattle, Washington: The Buckeyes defeated the UConn Huskies, ending their quest for a 15th straight trip to the Final Four. Following the emphatic victory, forward Cotie McMahon, guard Jacy Sheldon and head coach Kevin McGuff addressed the media. McMahon talked about beating a team that many thought would roll over the Buckeyes, the love of her mom and what she's done for her basketball and her big performance in the victory. Sheldon talks about how teammate Taylor Mikesell is tough as nails following a game where Mikesell appeared to play through injury, McMahon's confidence and more. Coach McGuff goes into what the win means for the team, preparing against not only the Huskies but the aura the Huskies bring to games and how parity in NCAA women's basketball has changed over the past few years. That and a lot more in the latest Uncut. Connect with Thomas: Twitter: @1ThomasCostello Theme music provided by www.bensound.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On today’s episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I’m joined by Matt Tamanini to talk about the biggest news coming out of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center from Ohio State’s Spring practice. Before the big conversation topics, our first discussion is about Ohio State’s annual pro day and how the players performed. We get into the scene of the event and dive into why C.J. Stroud locked up the number one pick on Wednesday. Then our attention turns to some other surprises, and a discussion about how a young receiver being out there signifies a big role to come. After that, we turn our attention to the Ohio State media availabilities from this week to get into what we can learn from the coaches and players speaking. We begin this section of the show with a talk about what we expect from the scrimmage and the importance the coaching staff will put on this glorified practice. We continue on discussing the defensive line media availability. Our biggest takeaway gets into the importance of the health of a certain player in the interior. Then we get into what we can project about the depth on the defensive line and what we can takeaway from what the older players are saying about their younger teammates. We close out this talk with why the Jack linebacker is gone because Ohio State does not need one, unless they have the type of player recruited for it. With the talk about the defensive line we have to discuss the offensive line and that discussion gets into how the players who spoke might end up being the starters on the OL. Then we turn our attention to the Josh Fryar’s move to left tackle and the players stepping up on the leadership side of things in the room. To close out the show, we save the best for last with Ohio State’s women’s basketball team taking on UConn in the Sweet 16. Our discussion gets into the importance of the games being on ABC and why the Buckeyes are one of the most fun basketball teams to watch in the country. During Episode 71 of Bucketheads, Connor and Justin lead it off by discussing all the chaos currently happening with college basketball — the transfer portal is booming, coaches are jumping ship, NBA decisions loom — and that doesn’t even include the Sweet Sixteen that’s going on right now! Players are still making decisions about their future, but there are already several hundred in the transfer portal seeking new basketball homes. What type of transfers should Ohio State look at this season? And how does Brice Sensabaugh’s knee injury change the outlook of his impending draft decision? Thomas Costello closes the show by jumping on for the second week in a row to preview the Ohio State women’s Sweet Sixteen showdown against the UConn Huskies. This is not a game the Buckeyes are supposed to win, but has that stopped them before? Chip Minnich and I are back with our monthly off-season check-in, and Ohio State football is also back — sort of. Spring football practices are underway as the team looks to develop in its off-season approach to the annual Ohio State Spring Game glorified practice. We discuss some of the new numbers that a few of the Buckeyes will be wearing this fall. Another topic of interest in this episode is the fallout from the NFL Combine, where C.J. Stroud may have helped himself relative to the competition to be the first quarterback selected. Salary information from the OSU coaching staff was made public and so we’ve got some thoughts on what some of those pay raises were, who might have been worthy of them, and perhaps others who might be lucky to still be on the staff. We wrapped up with some talk about the upcoming NFL Draft and where several prominent former Buckeyes figure to go, which ones might go late, and which ones might not go at all. We’ll be back next month, or possibly sooner if news warrants, as we remain in our offseason broadcast schedule. In the meantime, feel free to reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email. Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, and share. On today’s episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I’m joined by Jordan Williams to to talk about the pay increases for the Ohio State coaching staff along with some other spring practice storylines. We start the episode with a discussion about the pay raises for the Ohio State football staff. There are some interesting raises including Tim Walton who is now the defensive passing game coordinator and Parker Fleming is in the exact same role with higher pay. We get into what each raise means, and how crazy the amount assistant coaches are making is. After that, our discussion turns to the chatter coming out of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. I can hold back my excitement about a certain group of receivers, and we discuss why the linebacker room is in the best place it has been in years. This talk leads to a lot of bullish energy on the two rooms over the next few years. We start the second half of the show with a talking about the two transfer defensive backs and why the excitement should be contained with the Ole Miss Transfer Davison Igbinosun. The corner room under Tim Walton might be in its best place since 2019. After that we get into out last major discussion talking about the Buckeyes in the NFL during their free agency. This conversation gets into the current situations, who got paid, and who might not get paid. Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Holy Land’s I-70 podcast. On this show, we talk about all things Big Ten football and basketball. After every week of action, we will get you caught up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players that you should be paying attention to in the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan. After a brief hiatus, the guys are back, but the football gods did not bless them with a heavy news cycle. Instead, the Big Ten has been relatively quiet the past few weeks. With multiple significant decisions still to be made, the conference has instead gone dark. There has yet to be any news on the search for the new commissioner, and there is still much to be decided on regarding the structure of the television deal, namely which games will be on which network this fall. We’re waiting for news on the new scheduling model and the permanent opponents for each team. In other news, Maryland hired former Michigan and Miami offensive coordinator Josh Gattis to the same role. Gattis will be tasked with creating a similar potent offense to what he had at Michigan. After failing at Miami, there are many questions on whether Gattis of Sherrone Moore should be credited for Michigan's success. In the NFL, the Bears have traded the number one pick to the Panthers for picks no. 9 and 61 in this year's draft, a first-round pick in 2024, and second-round pick in 2025, and wide receiver Dj Moore. While the Bears are building around former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, Jordan thinks this trade happened so the panthers could draft Field's successor at OSU, C.J. Stroud. In their last segment, Jordan makes his case for why it’s time for Northwestern to move on from head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald has been the head coach since 2006; he has a career record of 110-101, barely above a 50 percent winning percentage. Fitzgerald has led the wildcats to two Big Ten West Division titles, one if you remove the pandemic year. In his last three full-length seasons, Northwestern is 7-29, 3-24 in the Big Ten. Despite his lack of recent success, the boosters have paid for a new football facility on the lake and have committed $800 million for a new football stadium. Northwestern is not the easiest or most attractive job, but they are better than what has been accepted the past three full-length seasons. If Fitzgerald doesn’t turn it around this season, which is unlikely, Northwestern needs to be realistic and move on from the greatest linebacker in school history. On today’s episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I’m joined by Jordan Williams the guys are here to discuss the changing seasons and Ohio State starting Spring Practice. We start the episode with a discussion about why Spring Football is so exciting for everyone around the program. There is nothing, but excitement this time of year and this is the time for all of the hottest takes. After that our discussion turns to the chatter coming out of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The guys start with the big conversation about quarterbacks and discuss exactly what we know at this point about the competition – hint, it’s not much. We continue talking about the questions, and how the offensive line might be decided by the end of Spring. We close out the first half of the show with some rapid fire question-answers regarding the remaining noise out of the first couple Spring practices. Topics included are Jim Knowles playing more linebackers, no Jack position in the Spring, and Marvin Harrison Jr. returning punts. After the break we you decide to become codebreakers, and decipher the coach speak that was happening at the pressers. There’s nothing that we can’t figure out, and this leads to us discussing why certain Buckeyes might not play as much as anticipated. To close out the show, we discuss how big the Buckeyes got this Winter and why you should wear plenty of Scarlet-and-Gray this weekend. Throughout the year, the Land-Grant Podcast Network will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. On today's episode, we've got uncut audio from the press conference kicking off the Ohio State football team's 2023 spring practice. Following the first practice, the first 30 minutes of which was open to the media, head coach Ryan Day answered questions about his plans for his team over the next five weeks. He provided updates on the quarterback battle between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown while also discussing his plans and expectations for other players. Then, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles took to the podium to provide further insight into the guys on his side of the ball. The biggest news from his session was the announcement that Jack Sawyer will exclusively play defensive end this season, instead of playing the DE/linebacker hybrid Jack position. Bucketheads’ is the only men’s basketball-focused podcast in the LGHL family of podcasts, co-hosts Connor Lemons and Justin Golba give the latest scoop on the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as all the other happenings in the college hoops world. ‘Bucketheads’ will be released every Thursday morning throughout the regular season. During episode 69 (nice) of our men’s basketball podcast, Connor and Justin dissect the Big Ten Tournament bracket and take their guesses at how far Ohio State will advance. One of our cohosts think the Buckeyes will win a game before bowing out in round two. The other....is a bite more optimistic. Then they make their picks for a winner, as well as break down which bubble teams will need one win or more to solidify a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Michigan probably needs two wins, while Rutgers may need one — mathematically, this won’t work out for both parties. Wisconsin absolutely needs to beat Ohio State to get into the tournament, and Penn State could use a win against seven-seed Illinois to make sure they’re safe. Will any of these teams make the tournament? Finally, the guys share some good news about the podcast, which will continue on as advertised into the summer after a brief cancellation scare. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. After an entertaining two first games of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament for the Ohio State women's basketball team, it came to an end Sunday in the finale. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, they weren't bringing the tournament trophy on the plane ride home. The Scarlet & Gray suffered a second tough first half in a row, and unable to come back from a severly lopsided first two quarters. After the 105-72 defeat, head coach Kevin McGuff, guard Taylor Mikesell and forward Cotie McMahon spoke with the media. After a brief message by head coach Kevin McGuff, Mikesell and McMahon talk about how they can use this game as motivation, Mikesell addresses her final Big Ten game in her five-year career, with more basketball to play and McMahon discusses a moment in the game between herself and Iowa's Caitlin Clark that ended with an intentional foul call against McMahon. To end the press conference, head coach Kevin McGuff talks about both his end of the game and halftime speech to the team, Mikesell's final Big Ten game, the impact of fouls on the Buckeyes' gameplan, the growth of the conference and more. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Ohio State’s 84-78 loss to the Michigan State Spartans Saturday afternoon in East Lansing, we were able to speak with Brice Sensabaugh, Justice Sueing, and Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann about the loss. Despite the loss, all three seemed confident and ready for a potentially long week in Chicago. Sensabaugh started and felt he made poor decisions in the first half and took some questionable shots. He said he took better shots in the second half, and that the team’s toughness and resolve showed when they pushed the Spartans to the final minute despite trailing by 13 at one point. Sueing echoed Sensabaugh’s confidence in his team’s ability to always stay in a ballgame. He also noted that their defense on the perimeter was lacking at times, while the emotions of Senior Day may have also helped MSU’s confidence. Holtmann praised Sueing’s game, noting that the senior forward was just shy of a triple-double. He said that the Buckeyes put together “a lot of quality offensive possessions” but that their ball screen defense lagged and allowed the Spartans to hit some shots from the perimeter. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. The Ohio State women's basketball team made a habit this season out of coming back to defeat opponents. In the regular season, their best was a 17-point deficit erased against the Illinois Fighting Illini. Then, on Saturday, they outdid themselves, coming out of a 24-point hole to beat the No. 1 team in the conferene and No. 2 team in the country: The Indiana Hoosiers. After the 79-75 victory, head coach Kevin McGuff and guards Jacy Sheldon and Taylor Thierry spoke with the media about the win. Up first are Thierry and Sheldon. The two Buckeyes discussed moving on quickly from their big win to focus on the winner of the Maryland Terrapins and Iowa Hawkeyes in the second conferene semifinal. Also, Sheldon discussed returning from injury and how it feels to be back on the court. For coach McGuff, he shared about the win being something he's never seen before, what he told the team in the lockerroom that calmed the team's nerves and what he'll now miss on Sunday because of the victory. For the second year in a row, the Ohio State women's basketball team had to face a Michigan side to open their Big Ten Tournament. This time, it was bitter rivals in the Michigan Wolverines. After Ohio State beat the Wolverines 81-79, head coach Kevin McGuff and forwards Taylor Thierry and Cotie McMahon spoke with the media. Land-Grant Holy Land was live from Minneapolis, Minnesota to capture their comments. Up first are the players. Thierry and McMahon discussed their mindsets offensively, leading Ohio State with 48 combined points. Also, the impact of Jacy Sheldon returning to the team, providing a spark from the bench and what was going through their minds in the final seconds as the Buckeyes had a two-point lead with the Wolverines surging. Then comes coach McGuff. The coach discusses more about Sheldon's return and how it won't be easy to keep her off the court Saturday against the Indiana Hoosiers. Also, what McMahon's done that he hasn't seen for a long time, plus comments about the pace of play and how the Wolverines were successful at slowing things down in the second half. On today’s episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I’m joined by Jordan Williams to get into everything surround the Ohio State Buckeyes this week. We start the episode with some discussion about the rigors of higher education and why the fact it’s golf season has me excited. Then we discuss some of the job/challenges of recruiting writing and smaller stories surrounding Ohio State and college football which is just about everything this time of year. Then we turn to the Buckeyes at the NFL combine, the keys to their success, and why this weekend is always important for the program. We start with one of the players with the most to prove at the combine, and then we get into why we’re mad about Zach Harrison not participating. After the break we get into additional combine stories including C.J. Stroud’s hand size measurements. Then we project how fast Jaxon Smith-Njigba and why to somebody with eyes, his forty time should not matter in his evaluation. We continue the discussion with some talk about the offensive linemen. To close out the show, I bring up a conversation that was started by Urban Meyer’s interview in The Athletic. We discuss where a coach with a checkered past morally can still discuss running a program, and why most programs should not throw stones at other programs about morals. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Ohio State’s 73-62 win over No. 21 Maryland Wednesday night, we spoke with Justice Sueing, Isaac Likekele, Sean McNeil, Chris Holtmann, and Maryland coach Kevin Willard (kind of) about the game. Willard walked into the press conference, realized only one Maryland reporter traveled to Columbus for the game, and promptly walked out. He blew off the first question, half answered two more questions over the next 90 seconds, and then got up and left. We then spoke to the seniors — Sueing, McNeil, and Likekele. All three players talked about their families and being grateful their families were able to make it to Wednesday night’s game — Likekele’s family traveled from Texas and Sueing’s from Hawaii. They also talked about the growth of Ohio State’s freshmen but did not want to talk about the Big Ten Tournament with another game coming up at Michigan State. Holtmann closed the conference and said the team really wanted to send Sueing off with a win in his final time in front of Ohio State fans. He also talked about Likekele’s ability to post up being a game-changer against the Terrapins. Connor and Justin take a look at where the Buckeyes sit in the standings and take a look at just how bunched up the Big Ten standings are from spots 4-12. Also, is there a realistic path for the Buckeyes to make some type of run in Chicago? Also, the guys take a deeper look at the conference tournament and the NCAA Tournament. What does the path look like for Ohio State to make some noise? Could they play spoiler to a certain bubble team up north? Also, which NCAA Tournament sure-fires do we like for our brackets, and which ones are we not so fond of? Like and subscribe wherever you find your music or podcasts. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. After Ohio State’s 72-60 victory over Illinois on Sunday (open the fridges!), we spoke with Chris Holtmann, Brad Underwood, Justice Sueing, and Bruce Thornton about the win, which snapped a nine-game losing streak. Thornton reaffirmed that this is where he wants to be — which should settle down any talk or cynical rumblings of Ohio State’s freshman point guard transferring. He also said that when you “stack good days” wins are eventually going to come, even if they have not been lately. Underwood was as surly as you’d expect after losing to the 13th-place team in the Big Ten. He said that the loss had nothing to do with Ohio State’s defense and everything with his team’s shot selection. Underwood also said that he’s getting close to just telling some of his guys to stop shooting three-pointers, at all costs. Holtmann gave a lot of credit to Sueing, Thornton, and Gene Brown during his time. He said players win games, not coaches, and those three especially carried the team. He also mentioned that he wants Thornton to slim down a few pounds this offseason, but that having a big body at guard is helpful. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. On the final day of the regular season, the Ohio State women's basketball team looked like the team they were going into the 2023 calendar. Instead of a lopsided double-digit loss to a Big Ten team for the fifth time this season, the Buckeyes played to the last second against the No. 7 Terrapins, ultimately falling 76-74. After the defeat, head coach Kevin McGuff and guard Taylor Mikesell spoke to the media. Breaking down the game, coach McGuff talked about the game going down to the visitors making one more play than the Buckeyes. Also, if free throw shooting was anywhere close to average it would've been a different story. McGuff also shares what he said to the team following the loss and what Mikesell means to the program in her short time in it, with Friday also being senior night for the graduate senior. Then, Mikesell addresses the competitive response to the loss, and not taking moral victory in losing by a single possession. Also, the guard talks about what's different now than earlier this month when the Buckeyes were playing poorly and losing to top teams in the conference and what it meant to finish her career with Ohio State. Next up for the Buckeyes is the Big Ten Tournament, starting Friday in the third round. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following a back-and-forth, entertaining game in Columbus that saw Penn State ultimately prevail 75-71, we spoke with Chris Holtmann, Micah Shrewsberry, Bruce Thornton, and Brice Sensabaugh. The players led off, with Sensabaugh discussing the task of guarding Jalen Pickett and Thornton saying that the work “isn’t for nothing” and that even if wins aren’t coming, he feels like they are better now than they were. Shrewsberry, like almost every coach before him who has handed Ohio State a loss recently, took time to talk about Holtmann’s coaching ability and defend his peer. He said to “get that nonsense out of my face” with the “nonsense” assumedly being the calls to fire Holtmann after a disastrous season. Finally, Ohio State’s head coach discussed the task of guarding Pickett as well. He said that, although the Buckeyes operated well on offense, empty possessions in the most crucial spots prevented them from pulling ahead. On today’s episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I’m joined by Jordan Williams get into everything but Ohio State on this episode. We obviously circle everything back to the Buckeyes though on our national show. We start the episode with the biggest conversation topic across recruiting message boards with NIL. The conversation starts with our expectations surrounding NIL in the future, and a big reason the crazy collectives might have a glass ceiling placed by programs around the country. Then our attention turns towards the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their offseason failures. We get into their failures that have occurred since Brian Kelly, losing Tommy Rees making them a stepping stone job, and them not paying for the offensive coordinator Marcus Freeman wanted. This one is for our Irish fan friends who don’t take football as seriously as the big time programs. After that, we get into what’s going on in the Southeastern Conference. Florida has lost three assistants in as many days. With Florida the talking point, Anthony Richardson has Jordan and I back to hating NFL Draft “Experts.” It’s not a real job, but the offensive coordinator job at Alabama is supposedly. So we ask how they ended up with Tommy Rees. We get into some light conversations about Apple pitching their broadcasting bid to the Pac-12 and why this actually might hurt them in the long run. After that, the show moves into the potential rule changes to the clock to help speed up games. To close out the show, we predict our two team most likely to disappoint this Fall and the two teams who might exceed expectations. During episode 67 of Bucketheads, the guys discuss Zed Key’s injury status, as the junior big man will now have season-ending shoulder surgery. They discuss some of the misguided hate Key gets from a small sub-section of the Ohio State fanbase, and how his being compromised contributed to the Buckeyes’ season snowballing out of control. They also talked about the ongoing situation at the University of Alabama, after news broke this week that star freshman Brandon Miller was present when a teammate fatally shot a young woman in Tuscaloosa. Other topics that were hit include Michigan State’s emotional win over Indiana this week following a tragedy on their campus, which Ohio State players could transfer at the end of the season, and the ending of our favorite college basketball podcast, Titus and Tate.
