Hank Garrett - Actor (Car 54 Where Are You? / Three Days of the Condor / G.I. Joe)

Hank Garrett Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Hank Garrett. Hank grew up in the rough streets of Harlem in the 1940's & 1950's. During that time he watched schoolmates die, or go to prison. Then Willie Bryant "The Mayor of Harlem" stepped in; introduced Hank to Sammy Davis Jr, and everything changed. After that, Hank began his careers in Stand up comedy, professional wrestling, martial arts, and eventually acting. In this episode we chat about his journey From Harlem Hoodlum, To Hollywood Heavyweight. That also hapoens to be the title of his new book. Hank shares stories about working with: Benny The Jet Urquidez, Sammy Davis Jr, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Dean MArtin, Buddy Hackett, Chuck Norris, Jerry Lewis Al Lewis, David Frost, and Robert Redford. Fun behind the scenes tales about 'Car 54 Where Are You?', 'Three Days of the Condor', 'That Was The Week That Was', and 'G.I.Joe'. Hank still won't name the New York mobster that gave him his first gun, or the Cosa Nostra that elped out his mom on some interesting occasions. Make sure you check out his book, and get the rest of the amazing accounts of Hank being the very first white comedian to play The Apollo Theater, touring as Tony Bennett's opener, getting kicked out of The Actors Studio, and how he repaid Robert Redford for keeping Hank from going blind!  Special thanks to mutual friends Kat & Clint Howard for connecting Hank & me for this conversation. Teresa Strasser - Television Writer / Author (Making It Home)

Teresa Strasser Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Teresa Strasser. Teresa first came into my heart as co-host / sidekick on The Adam Carolla Show on the radio, then in podcast form. I have wanted to get Teresa on the show for quite some time. Special thanks to Vinnie Tortorich for helping make this happen. In this episode, Teresa and I chat about how she came to work on the radio in Hollywood, in sort of a unique way. Then we discuss her podcast with Gina Grad, called Easy Listening. She explains what the show started out as, and why the show recently ended. Next we get into her book. The book is called Making It Home: Life Lessons From a Season of Little League. Teresa explains why she felt like she needed to write this book, and who it is for. The backstory of the book, is that Teresa and her father are repairing their relationship and coping with grief, while attending every game in a season of her son's little league baseball games. Teresa lost her brother and her mother 4 months apart. This is the story of coping, grieving, and healing..... through the ups & downs of her little boy's athletic efforts... all while repairing her relationship with her father. This is an extraordinary story, written by a remarkable author. I enjoyed this book very much. Touching, funny, sentimental, while on the edge of your seat with the winning and losing of the season. We do touch a bit on what it is like to grow up separated from your sibling, and Teresa tells a story of sweet, sweet vindication from her wicked, wicked stepmom. GET THIS BOOK!

Sam Lachow - Rapper (Heavy Hearts)

Sam Lachow Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Sam Lachow. Sam is a rapper based in Seattle, who was brought to my attention by previous guest John Sylvain. In this episode, Sam and I chat about how he came to be a rapper / hip hop musician; even though he grew up in Seattle, known for it's grunge style of music. Then we get into sobriety. Sam is very open and honest, and even vulnerable when it comes to the reasons he got sober. He shares some of his fears about the possibility of losing his creative passion, and talent without the use of drugs and alcohol. He even shares a bizarre story about having to call the treatment center every day at 8am, just to see if there was an available bed yet. Then we jump right into how much I enjoy his music. We get very deep into some specific songs of his, that I love. He lets me play my favorite of his songs, and he clues me into the meaning behind some of the lyrics. The day we recorded this; he released a new single called "I Might", and he is gracious enough to let me play it in this episode as well. Sam lays out his plans to release a new single every month of this year, culminating in two new albums. This conversation gets pretty deep with regard to drug and alcohol use, as well as why he decided to seek treatment. He openly discusses some of the consequences he was facing during that time, and what he sees for himself going forward; both personally, and professionally. I had a great time speaking with Sam, and look to have him back on at some point.
