In 2021, she was recognized on a global list representing the top two percent of the most cited scientists in her discipline. She teaches in the undergraduate, MBA, Ph.D. and Executive Programs. Her research on organizational learning, strategy, leadership character and improvisation has been widely published in such journals as the Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, the Journal of Management Studies, Leadership Quarterly and Organization Dynamics. She has extended her research to management practice through a collection of over 50 cases, many of which have been published in a book she co–authored entitled Strategic Management: A Casebook https://amzn.to/49dk3BK. Her research on the ethical challenges of leadership is interdisciplinary but draws heavily on literature in philosophy and history. She also does extensive research in business ethics. Prior to joining Rutgers, she held the Coston Family Chair in Leadership and Ethics at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies (University of Richmond), where she was one of the founding faculty of the school, which is the first degree granting liberal arts school of leadership studies in the world. Ciulla has held academic appointments at Harvard Business School, The Wharton School, LaSalle University, and numerous visiting appointments outside of the U.S., including the UNESCO chair in Leadership Studies at the United Nations International Leadership Academy in Jordan. She joined the nascent Last Mile organization (the logistics business that gets packages through the final steps on their way to customers’ doorsteps) in early 2014 as one of its first employees, and today is responsible for all of Amazon’s Last Mile delivery businesses, including the Delivery Service Partner, Amazon Flex and Hub Delivery programs. In addition, she oversees the Last Mile product and technology teams covering areas such as mapping, routing, capacity planning, pickup points, delivery station and driver experience technologies.
