North Carolina State mechanical engineers report that vortex ultrasound, a swirling shockwave, dissolves blood clots in critical brain blood vessels faster and more effectively that traditional chemical methods. This ultrasonic tornado is produced by a miniature ultrasonic transducer attached to a catheter that is threaded into blood vessels. This works in the lab, but animal and then human testing is in the future.
