Interview with Greylan James

We had the pleasure of interviewing Greylan James over Zoom video! Greylan James is the product of a young man’s hard work and experience, wrapped up in an original country song. Raised just north of Knoxville, Tennessee, Greylan knew that he was meant to be a musician at a young age. By the time he turned double digits, he was frequently performing at barn dances, local restaurants, and bars. He started writing songs as an early teen and began visiting Nashville with his family in hopes of a future career in Country music. He finally made the move after being ranked one of the top 100 guitarists under 21 by Guitar Center and appearing on Season 4 of NBC’s The Voice. After earning a few more years of experience diligently writing in Music City, Greylan signed with Universal Music Publishing Group. He has earned songwriting credits on major records such as the smash hit “Happy Does” by Kenny Chesney, “If That Ain’t God” by Chris Young, and “Real Friends” by Chris Janson featuring Blake Shelton. Greylan recently signed a record deal with Big Machine Label Group, and was announced as a 'Highway Find' on Sirius XM. He also received his first No. 1 as a songwriter on Jordan Davis' "Next Thing You Know https://open.spotify.com/track/39OclE5hZematADrdfaWvE?si=657fd3277557470e." He’s also released a new song called, "Undermine https://open.spotify.com/track/6At2ZQA676m2DbbstWSUMk?si=51119cf30f3b46f9" and the fan-favorite "My Future" with over 1.9 million streams on Spotify alone. Interview with Mike Mains & The Branches (Mike Mains Returns)

We had the pleasure of interviewing Mike Mains & The Branches over Zoom video! Mike Mains & The Branches have always bottled complex emotions and relatable stories within hummable homegrown anthems. They have organically progressed over the course of Home [2012], Calm Down, Everything Is Fine [2014], and When We Were In Love [2019]. Billboard hailed the "buoyant pop" of the latter, while Atwood Magazine praised its "upbeat, energetic, feel-good pop-rock." Among many standouts, “Briggs” generated north of 4.8 million Spotify streams as "Breathing Underwater" and "Live Forever" each surpassed the 1 million-mark. After trading his native Michigan for Nashville, Mike underwent another era of transformation. Stuck at home mid-Pandemic, he retreated inward and began to understand his past and, ultimately, himself a bit more. "Once COVID hit, I finally had the opportunity to allow some things to start boiling over," he elaborates. "I got serious about therapy, my mental health, and my well-being. I acknowledged wounds that had been on the backburner for my entire life. I've been on my own since I was 16, and I come from a family of physical and mental abuse. By living alone and crashing on couches over the years, I've cobbled together a wonderful surrogate family. Growing up, my dad was like, 'You'll never make it’.' Part of me was pleased to find success, move to Nashville, buy a home, and support myself and my wife off rock 'n' roll. Nevertheless, all of this pain came up. So, these songs are little vignettes and snapshots of not only the relationship between my wife and I but what was happening in the world with George Floyd and America's heartbreaking response." Interview with Within Temptation (Sharon den Adel Returns!)

We had the pleasure of interviewing Within Temptation over Zoom video! Dutch metallers Within Temptation recently released their brand-new studio album Bleed Out with a provocative, zombie-vampire-gore-fest-splatter-horror video for their current single "Ritual". Brutal and brilliantly comedic, whilst calling to mind the work of legendary animator Ralph Bakshi and the Rotoscope school of animation, the video for "Ritual" calls out the behaviour of male sexual predators in the workplace, the street, the sports field, and more. What if women behaved as aggressively as the men who seek to take advantage of them, and what if they fought back to exact a terrible revenge? Singer Sharon den Adel says, "'Ritual' is a sexual song, about seduction and a woman taking power in a male-dominated world. It was inspired by watching Tarantino's movie From Dusk Til Dawn and is a light-hearted moment in our album, which focuses mainly on the political and repressive issues in the world. We have always wanted to do a horror-style video for Halloween, and this song gave us the perfect chance to do that, using AI-technology to create something truly awe-inspiring. But it also addresses some of the recent news-stories of men behaving badly and imagines what would happen if a bad-ass woman fought back in the most terrible way. So get ready for blood, violence, fangs, and humor. The album Bleed Out has been released to worldwide acclaim, showcasing Within Temptation at the very forefront of contemporary metal, and unafraid to take a social and political stand on many of the issues in the world today. As epic as it is unflinchingly outspoken, Within Temptation have delivered a fist-in-the-air proclamation of both their moral convictions and their fearless approach to music. Interview with David Michael Frank

We had the pleasure of interviewing David Michael Frank over Zoom video! Multi-instrumentalist + creator David Michael Frank, recently released the new single called "F*** Me Over", about coming to the end of a relationship when one person isn't quite ready to face it yet. "It tackles the often unspoken but universally felt desire for something clear-cut when lost in the haze of a dying relationship," says David. "It combines brutal honesty with vulnerability, highlighting the internal struggle of someone who wants clarity, even if that means facing painful truths." Frustrated by the idea of waiting for opportunities to come his way, DMF set out to take the full risk of thinking outside the traditional touring norm. Instead of playing conventional venues and collaborating with promoters/teams in a competitive touring marketplace, David took the bold step of outright RENTING 24 venues up front, believing in himself at a time when he felt like no one else was believing in him. By renting venues, each concert on the Private Party Tour becomes an exclusive "Private Party." Rather than hiring an agent for a traditional tour, he engaged event planners to secure the necessary licenses to serve (and in many states, sell) alcohol and food, as well as hiring licensed Tattoo artists to work the events and will be keeping the profits. By taking on the upfront cost, unlike a traditional tour where ticket sales money is withheld by the venue/promoter, David found a loophole unbeknownst to the music industry. Ticket fees, a sore subject, are nominal and the compensation to the artist is finally fair. His innovative approach challenges the affordability of touring for artists of all sizes, potentially disrupting the entire touring industry and attracting major brand partners, while also shining a light on the darker aspects of the industry. The Private Party Tour blurred the lines between the audience and the stage, creating an incredibly intimate and immersive concert-going experience. About David Michael Frank Multi-instrumentalist David Michael Frank is dominating the TikTok, YouTube, and digital music landscape with unique original songs, inventive covers, and creative videos that raise the bar for musicians in the digital age. Through years of steady growth releasing music on YouTube and touring, DMF has recently turned to TikTok where his videos have received worldwide viral attention because of his powerful 5+ octave vocal range. DMF has developed a diehard and supportive fanbase and has accumulated over 300 Million Views & 3M+ followers through steady uploads and genuine connection with his supporters. Interview with FiNE and Lizwi

We had the pleasure of interviewing FiNE and Lizwi over Zoom video! Emerging twin brother DJ duo and Progressive Afro House producers FiNE have teamed up with Lizwi to release their debut MoBlack single “The Light.” “The Light” is an extraordinary fusion of Progressive Afro House and traditional African sounds. The combination of the unique musical backgrounds of the FiNE twins and Lizwi creates a sonic experience that is both captivating and deeply rooted in their shared heritage. Since moving to Los Angeles recently, FiNE have been taking the local scene by storm with recurring shows at La Mesa called FiNE Fridays, and additional sets at venues including Hotel Shangri-La, The Mondrian, Aya Lounge Beverly Hills, The Cooks Garden in Venice, Cafe Roma and more. FiNE is an artist project from twin brothers born in Johannesburg, and raised in Botswana. Given their upbringing, they describe their music and DJ sets as Progressive Afro House. With a life journey already covering South Africa, Botswana, Israel and Australia, they have deep connections to global audiences and it shows through their signature sound. It’s undeniable that the twins’ multicultural upbringing shapes their Afro-infused DJ sets and original productions. ABOUT FiNE: Craig and Darren Fine, twin brothers, share an unbreakable lifelong bond like most siblings. However, their journey in life has been extraordinary and has shaped them into unique individuals and musical artists. The Fine brothers, pioneers of the Progressive Afro House genre, have developed their distinctive sound through a blend of diverse musical influences. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Craig and Darren relocated to Botswana during their early schooling years. As expatriates in Botswana, they embraced the local customs, culture, and music. The brothers displayed their musical talents at a very young age with Craig on drums, Darren on piano, and both playing instruments like steel pans and marimbas. During their time in high school, Craig and Darren moved to Sydney, Australia, where they immersed themselves in the vibrant local electronic music scene. Their next adventure took them to Tel Aviv, where they balanced a day job while refining their fresh and eclectic sound in the city’s pulsating underground scene. They performed at numerous venues and festivals, including a prominent slot on the main stage at the Corona Sunsets Festival, garnering international support. Following their overseas success, the Fine brothers returned to Australia, captivating audiences from coast to coast at the country’s hottest venues. Eventually, they settled in their current home of Los Angeles. With their unique sound, FiNE has made waves in the Melodic and Afro House charts, consistently achieving top 10 Beatport releases. Notable among their successes is a remix of Paul Okenfold and Aloe Blacc’s hit “I’m In Love'' and their chart-topping debut EP “Forbidden Fruit” released on Australia’s esteemed label, Recovery Collective. In November 2022, they celebrated the release of their newest single “Cloud 9” on Recovery Collective. The original track captures the essence of FiNE’s Progressive Afro House style–melodic, driving, euphoric, and yet possessing a distinct edge. The single’s remix package features interpretations from renowned artists such as Kalil, Elliott Creed, and Jack Colletta. Most recently, FiNE collaborated with EPHIMERA Tulum, delivering a breathtaking live sunset mix. Currently, FiNE is planning an end-of-year tour in South Africa, Australia, and Bali. With their unparalleled sound, exceptional discography, and wealth of musical and life experiences, FiNE possesses an undeniable “it factor” that will captivate fans and propel the Progressive Afro House movement to new heights. Interview with Kayla DiVenere

We had the pleasure of interviewing Kayla DiVenere over Zoom video! Rising star Kayla DiVenere, the 19-year-old actress, singer-songwriter with a dedicated online following, has taken the music scene by storm with her latest single "Date Myself." The song's release marks a powerful moment of self-discovery and empowerment for the young artist. Kayla explains, "Writing “Date Myself” reminded me of how beautiful it is to spend time by yourself and how important it is to be comfortable owning your self-love and high standards. Being able to hear it back after writing it and to scream it at the top of my lungs has comforted me more than any guy has, and I hope it can comfort people too in any way they can relate to it." In "Date Myself," Kayla candidly shares her own experience with the pitfalls of dating, as she exclaims, "I kinda wanna date myself." The inspiration for the song emerged during a conversation with her mother about her tumultuous dating history. Recognizing the universality of the sentiment, Kayla transformed this heartfelt confession into an anthem for anyone navigating the often treacherous world of dating. The track encourages listeners to embrace the beauty of spending time with themselves and to unapologetically prioritize self-love and high standards. Known for her roles on hit TV shows like "Law & Order," Hulu's "Love Victor," and Hulu's "Light as a Feather," as well as feature films such as "Under the Silver Lake," Kayla DiVenere has already made a significant impact on television screens across the United States. However, her passion for music led her to explore the world of songwriting, resulting in a flourishing music career with millions of streams across all platforms, and over 200,000 followers on social media. In 2020, Kayla released her debut single, "Justin Bieber," which garnered attention for its pop melodies and sweet vocals, showcasing her ability to craft authentic and relatable lyrics. Wonderland Magazine praised the song, stating, "Known for her delicate and genuine lyricism, the singer pulls on inspiration from her own past, to create a light-hearted and fun bop." Following her debut, Kayla continued to release captivating singles, including "PSYCHOPATH" in 2021 and "Megan Fox" in 2022. "Megan Fox" stands out as a powerful exploration of the pressures and insecurities stemming from unattainable beauty standards. Kayla's unflinching honesty in the song resonates with many as she addresses the challenges of feeling inadequate in relationships while surrounded by unrealistic ideals of perfection. Her first release of 2023, "Jumping the Gun," showcases Kayla's continued growth as a versatile artist, adding depth to her expanding catalog. Kayla’s latest releases have earned her a spot on some Spotify's top playlists, such as Pop Rising, New Pop Picks, Salt and All New Rock. With "Date Myself," Kayla DiVenere reaffirms her position as a rising force in the music industry, combining relatable lyrics, catchy melodies, and a powerful message of self-love and empowerment. The single is now available on all major streaming platforms, and fans can expect more exciting music and performances from this young sensation in the near future. We want to hear from you! Interview with Rett Madison

We had the pleasure of interviewing Rett Madison over Zoom video! One for Jackie, the new album from Los Angeles-based vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rett Madison, is out today via Warner Records/War Buddha Records and watch the video for new single “Flea Market” shot by Wes O’Connor at Sonic Ranch. “I made this album in memory of my mother and to honor my own grief,” Madison says. “I hope these songs will provide a moment of catharsis for anyone that’s lost a loved one, especially those of us that have lost someone to suicide.” One for Jackie features a collaboration with Iron & Wine and previously shared singles “One for Jackie, One for Crystal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3IKrCFfv34,” “Skydiving https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLn_iIZj56I” and “Fortune Teller https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cOEqc9aeoo&feature=youtu.be,” which arrived alongside a video directed by Joelle Grace Taylor (Kaytranada, Ariana Greenblatt, Rob Lowe) and choreographed by Carlena Britch (Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani) and inspired Madison’s recently-launched Fortune Teller Arcana Tarot Card website https://fortuneteller.rettmadison.com/. One for Jackie is a tribute to Madison’s mom, who struggled with depression, PTSD and alcoholism for Madison’s whole life before she passed by suicide in 2019, leaving her only child with the harrowing responsibility to try and better understand her mother while she mourned her. “Writing this album, I was moving through grief,” Madison says. “It was part of my healing process.” Recorded in Tornillo, Texas at the storied Sonic Ranch and produced by the Grammy Award-winning Tyler Chester (Madison Cunningham, Sara Bareilles, Watkins Family Hour), One for Jackie simultaneously borrows from legendary storytellers of the past like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen while cementing itself as an American classic for fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Angel Olsen and Brandi Carlile. Between Madison’s gutting lyrics, her singular voice and her exacting creative vision, One for Jackie immerses the listener in Madison’s grief, relying on memory and raw emotion to paint a lasting picture of Jackie. Rather than flattening and sanctifying her mother in the wake of her death, Madison portrays Jackie in all her glory and complexity. The result is an album that brings Jackie to life. Originally from West Virginia, Rett Madison is a queer singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. She has been featured in publications such as Billboard, American Songwriter and Rolling Stone, where her music was described as “simultaneously brazen and vulnerable,” giving her a place “in the new school of acclaim-worthy troubadours.” She has sung backing vocals for artists such as Lorde and Kate Nash and opened for artists including Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Elle King and more. Having independently released a handful of singles ahead of her 2021 debut album, Pin-Up Daddy, she’s worked with some of the most talented players today, including Theo Katzman, Brian Jones, Lee Pardini and Joe Dart. The track kicks off with an epic, heart-thumping horn section before bringing into stuttering, industrial drum percussion. A slew of breakbeats then build up towards the track’s tectonic drop, which combines trunk-rattling 808s, dubstep wubs, and infectious melodies for a thunderous section of electronic music bliss. Next, Torii Wolf begins their verse, elevating the track into a heavenly atmosphere with their angelic vocal delivery and transcendental lyrics. Lavish, impactful, and filled to the brim with immaculate sonic details, “Wide Awake” is an illuminating display of a producer at the peak of her powers - and a perfect representation of Mind Over Matters’s free-flowing, liberatory journey. Interview with Charlotte Cardin

We had the pleasure of interviewing Charlotte Cardin over Zoom video! Multi JUNO-winning Canadian singer/songwriter Charlotte Cardin has released her stellar sophomore album 99 Nights via Cult Nation/Atlantic Records. The album was made in Montreal with a slew of collaborators; DFA (Dua Lipa), Rob Grimaldi (BTS), Mr.Hudson (Kanye West), Jorgen Odegard (Justin Bieber), Jenn Decilveo (Miley Cyrus), Ryan Linvill (Conan Gray), Felix Joseph (Jorja Smith). The latest single, “Next to You”, is a hypnotic piano ballad that fully displays Cardin’s rich and ethereal vocals, and serves as a love letter and farewell to her hometown of Montreal. Of the song she says, “‘Next to You” is a love letter to my hometown of Montreal. So many people, places and emotions anchored me there and this song is about letting go when the winds of change call. It was written with my dear and talented friend Patrick Watson, over a period of six transformative months where I knew I had to leave a place I love in order to grow.” “Next to You” rounds out a string of impressive tracks from the new album - “Jim Carrey,” “99 Nights,” “Confetti” and “Looping” - all of which garnered widespread critical acclaim. As Charlotte’s star continues to rise, the talented singer/songwriter has been taking her new material on the road for an international headline tour. We want to hear from you! Interview with Will Swinton

We had the pleasure of interviewing Will Swinton over Zoom video! Auckland singer-songwriter Will Swinton recently released his new EP, Better Days, via 10K Projects/Capitol Records. Raw and stripped-back, the release is elevated by the 22-year-old’s gravelly, soulful delivery as he lays out his thoughts and feelings over lush, rapturous compositions that mix and meld a dizzying array of elements and influences—showcasing a poise and presence well beyond his years. To complement the EP Will Swinton releases a captivating visual to the title-track which finds Will hanging with his friends in New Zealand. On the EP Will Swinton says, “Better Days is a journey through past mistakes, lessons learned, and moving on. I’m really starting to develop my sound, and I’m excited to share this EP and all the upcoming music I’ve made.” Better Days is started off with “So Low,” a palm-muted crowd-pleaser with a momentum that sneaks up on you. It’s followed by “Go Wrong,” a mournful look back at romance gone awry. Showcasing Swinton’s mumble rap-inspired delivery, the ethereal anthem is as surprising as it is touching. Also included is “All for You,” a gentle folk-pop that will surely get hearts pitter-pattering at concerts and “Wasted You,” a tender love letter to someone special built around gentle guitar plucking. Other highlights include “Missing You,” and of course the somber title-track “Better Days.” His latest single “Leave in the Morning” is included in the EP too and features a raw visual depicting the essence of love’s vulnerability and desire to hold on. The EP arrives amid a flurry of excitement for the up-and-comer, who Rolling Stone is already celebrating. Not long ago, Swinton withdrew his savings and flew to Los Angeles from Auckland to chase a dream. He wound up sticking around. In 2022, his very first independent single “All For You” cracked the Top 10 of the Hot 20 New Zealand Singles Chart, while “Wasted You” and “Leave In The Morning” landed in the Top 15. Thus far, he has tallied north of 100 million views on TikTok. Beyond collaborating with the likes of Claire Rosinkranz and finding a fan in MGK, he has performed everywhere from SXSW in Austin, TX to The Great Escape in Brighton, UK, and Primavera in Barcelona, Spain and a sold out a hometown show in New Zealand. Now, with Better Days, Swinton carves out a special place for himself in the music world, one which will soon be a much-sought-after destination. We want to hear from you! Interview with The Guess Who

We had the pleasure of interviewing The Guess Who over Zoom video! Earlier this year, Canadian rock legends The Guess Who shared their brand new LP, Plein D'Amour https://tellallyourfriendspr-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com/2jVpSjDKWspFQ6DREjcsezpVId6G3AQJn9tF8hAOVSLU9VOD5iQHOTHe-KsyTEuJT2lKKg1tyOxgzgvhD63zf9Liuj8U1ebP42ISOmjuOoykLSh593OAdXoG9g2Yx0MKw4SQyypykHwabaRoH_X1DnCmM5JkATdXBezW7ehtJfPvonJCDZNjyzbMuPBlTWvpO09M, via Deko Entertainment. Today, the band continues their album rollout with the release of a brand new video for the single, "People Around Me." On Plein D’Amour, band members Derek Sharp, Michael Staertow, Leonard Shaw, Michael Devin, and founding member Garry Peterson have crafted a collection of songs that raises the bar and continues to take it up a notch both musically and sonically. The album was recorded at Villa Sound in Singhampton, Ontario, Canada, with Adam Fair. It features other stand out tracks such as “Headline” and “Across the Line.” Artwork for the release was provided by world renowned graphic designer Ioannis (Deep Purple, Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, etc.). In February, The Guess Who shared the first single off their new album, "The King." Upon its release, the track immediately landed on multiple editorial Spotify playlists. With follow up singles "Plein D’Amour" and "Headline," the three tracks racked up over 250,000 streams collectively and making this record the highest new release in the band’s history. The Guess Who Bio: The Guess Who is a legendary Canadian band who enjoyed chart topping hits in the late 60s and early 70s with an impressive catalogue of songs including "American Woman," "These Eyes," and "No Time." During the course of its career, the band has released 11 studio albums, and charted 14 Top 40 hit singles, 2 of which went to number one in the United States. The Guess Who is best known internationally for its 1970 album, American Woman, which hit number one in Canada and number nine in the United States, with five other albums also hitting the top ten in Canada. Their fan base spans multiple generations. Very few bands have survived numerous member changes — let alone having smash hits with each lineup — but The Guess Who’s motto is “the music is the message.” The most recent and up-to-date version of the band has mastered a wildly entertaining romp through the early hits mixed in with their current creations while managing to take the whole experience to a new level. Their most recent musical offering is stunningly sophisticated, searingly emotional, and musically eclectic while remaining eminently singalongable. Their live show is a celebration of life, being alive, and thriving in these uncertain times. The Guess Who never leave anything less than their hearts on the stage at the end of every performance. This is my story of being in love, on the run, my journey through Hell, and ultimately God’s salvation. I’m excited about this debut album because people will get to see a full picture of who I truly am. I’m a writer on every song and I also co-produced many of the songs as well, because I had a specific vision for each one- that also included detailed visuals. I spent countless days and nights going over every detail for this album. My goal was to make sure there was personality and character throughout the entire project, so the audience can experience my journey on every level. This album is the truest reflection of my sound as an artist. Even though you hear some country trap and country pop early on. You feel like you’re on the run with me, and my sound becomes more outlaw country the darker the journey becomes. Interview with Saul (Saul Returns)

We had the pleasure of interviewing SAUL over Zoom video! Saul issue a call for connection in their music. The Iowa quartet—brothers Blake Bedsaul [lead vocals] and Zach Bedsaul [lead guitar, backup vocals], William McIlravy [bass, backup vocals], and Myles Clayborne [drums]—continue to bring audiences together with a one-two punch of precise and pummeling metallic grooves and towering magnetic melodies. Amassing tens of millions of streams and earning acclaim from Revolver, Guitar World, Loudwire, and many more, the group fortify an unbreakable bond with listeners on their second full-length offering, THIS IS IT…THE END OF EVERYTHING [Spinefarm]. Saul emerged out of the Midwest in 2017 and tirelessly bulldozed a path to the forefront of modern rock. They notably performed alongside everyone from Motionless In White, Atreyu, August Burns Red, Crown The Empire, Bush, and 10 Years to HELLYEAH and Nonpoint in addition to gracing the stages of festivals, including Rebel Rock, Rock Fest, Rock USA, Inkcarceration, and Blue Ridge Rock Fest with Rob Zombie, Mudvayne, and Slipknot. The group independently landed a bona fide hit in the form of “Brother”—an homage to the co-founders’ late brother Caleb. It marked their first #1 on Sirius/XM Octane in addition to gathering over 9 million Spotify streams and paving the way for their 2020 full-length debut, Rise As Equals. Co-written with David Draiman of Disturbed, “King Of Misery” reeled in 3.7 million Spotify streams, while “Trial By Fire” also surpassed 3 million Spotify streams. Of the former, American Songwriter praised“‘King of Misery’ wasted no time jumping into the heavy mainstream riffs that Saul set out to wrangle,” and Outburn hailed its “futuristic and cinematic video.” Expanding the sonic palette, the guys collaborated with producer Kile Odell [Motionless In White, Nita Strauss] this time around. They initially teased this chapter with “JACK & JILL,” which tempers a hypnotic harmony with a heavy groove. On its heels, they unleashed the single “A MILLION MILES.” Co-written with Johnny Andrews [Three Days Grace, Starset, Theory of a Deadman], a seesawing riff and electrifying melody give way to a chant-able chorus laced with raw emotion befitting of the central theme. Hummable keys set the tone for “RUNAWAY,” dissolving into a harmonic riff. The breathy verses break like a wave on a refrain tailor-made for a live singalong, “Treat me like a runaway, because I’m vanishing. I don’t think I’ll be missed.” An ominous sample snaps into a pummeling chug on the opener “TOOTH & NAIL.” Clean vocals snake through the verses towards a warning, “There’s no escape.” Then, there’s “BETTER AS A MEMORY.” It swings between schizophrenic extremes highlighted by unpredictable instrumental dynamics and a heart-wrenching vocal performance, “Deep down you know, I’d be better as a memory.” In the end, Saul create the soundtrack for breaking free. Interview with UMI

We had the pleasure of interviewing UMI over Zoom video! R&B singer-songwriter UMI announces her new EP talking to the wind out January 19. She also releases the second track off the project, “why dont we go.” follows UMI’s critically acclaimed debut album Forest in the City (2022), which Rolling Stone praised for its expansive “sun-soaked electro R&B” and “moody slow jams.” The new 4-track project sees UMI in a confident new light as she fully embraces love, life, but above all, feeling okay with being lost in the world. Her first independent release, talking to the wind was written during a transitional period. Ultimately, UMI found wisdom and the creative motivation to write the EP through meditation and getting in touch with the elements by literally speaking with the wind. UMI’s second offering from the project, “why dont we go,” begins with reverberating vocals before funk-infused guitar and a snapping bass line come into play. It's the perfect backdrop for an upbeat anthem about throwing caution to the wind and falling in love. The accompanying video is a playful celebration of youth and beauty. UMI and her friends are the epitome of carefree as they dance around a sunlit room. “This song is about enjoying your eternal youth, to be playful, to be free, to not think so much about life. Through the lyrics I paint a scene of me falling in love with someone I met for the first time, dancing through the night and forgetting my parents advice. ‘why don’t we go’ is me inviting myself and the other person to just let go and to live for the sake of living—even if it’s just for one night,” UMI says of the single. “why dont we go” channels many of the same themes as UMI’s previous single “happy im,” released on August 11, existing in the same sonic universe but paired with a more danceable beat. Upon release, “happy im” was praised by outlets like Billboard and Vibe, which raved “UMI is a whimsical, enchanting dream personified. With her new single, ‘happy im,’ she kicks off her 2023 in bliss.” V Magazine said that “the infectiously uplifting track is enough to cheer audiences up instantaneously.” And Numéro Netherlands summed up her trajectory, stating that UMI is “gearing up for a prolific, passionate, and powerful new season.” On November 27, UMI will host two meditation events at Lune Souleil in Downtown Los Angeles. An extension of the meditations she leads before each of her concerts, UMI and attendees will celebrate that evening’s beaver moon aka the November full moon. At both the 7 pm PT and 9 pm PT meditations, UMI will lead group breathing and a sound bowl session to infuse the power of the moon into attendees. On December 2, UMI will join Jhené Aiko at Oakland Arena, where she’ll perform her new singles from talking to the wind as well as hits from Forest in the City. Coco Jones and Tink will also make special appearances as openers. With only a debut album under her belt, UMI has quietly risen to the forefront of R&B. Beyond tens of millions of streams, Complex hailed her as one of the “20 R&B Artists to Watch in 2023,” noting, “Even if you aren’t familiar with the name\ yet, it’s highly probable you’ve heard her voice. UMI is just getting started and feels poised for greatness.” Beyond plugs from MTV, Vogue and more, Pitchfork said that “her growth is both exciting and compelling.” ABOUT UMI: UMI is a 24-year-old Seattle native pioneering a new sound rooted in neo soul and folk. Her deepest intention is to use her music as a vessel for healing and human connection. Meaning ocean in Japanese, "umi" is a beautiful reflection of her artistry - soothing like a day spent in nature. She flows across melodies and allows herself to dive into the human experience in a way that leaves listeners feeling deeply understood. UMI's Japanese roots as well as her life journeys as a Queer woman can be felt throughout the themes of her songs. The energy of her melodies reflects her personality - deeply caring and inviting. Interview with Tim Montana

We had the pleasure of interviewing Tim Montana over Zoom video! For as much as singer/songwriter/guitarist Tim Montana may be known as a wild man (and he certainly is), he really asserts himself as a tried-and-true storyteller with his new single "Devil You Know." The song finds Montana exploring his moody, rock 'n' roll roots, as the song is propelled forward by the high-octane riffs that introduce the song's gritty and emotionally crackling and lyrically raw chorus. "Devil You Know" certainly shows off a different side of Montana's musical personality and fans of bands like Foo Fighters, Staind, Godsmack, Theory of a Deadman, and Three Days Grace will easily gravitate towards the propulsive rhythms and energy. Tim Montana's story has twisted and turned with the unforgiving unpredictability of a Montana winter. He went from a rough youth spent off-the-grid in a trailer powered by a faulty generator to captivating a devout global fanbase, dropping successful independent albums, selling out shows, and earning the endorsement of childhood heroes such as Dave Grohl. At 21-years-old, Tim settled in Music City. He busted his ass and found a way to be heard. He caught the attention of David Letterman, who personally booked Montana on The Late Show with David Letterman. Unlocking a creative chemistry with Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, their collaborations included "This Beard Came Here to Party," which served as the anthem for the 2013 World Series champion Boston Red Sox and the Nashville Predators during the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Following 2021's Long Shots, Tim let his grunge flag fly, while still telling the kind of stories fans fell in love with in the first place. Now, he infuses Space Needle-shaking grunge grit with a different kind of frontier poetry, bringing together vivid lyricism, vulnerable melodies, and vicious distortion. He's formally introducing himself on a series of 2023 singles for BBR Music Group/BMG, beginning with "Devil You Know." And what can fans expect from the upcoming Tim Montana album? A celebration of rock music that channels the spirit of the great grunge explosion of the late '90s and early '00s. A tracklist of anthems that will have you stomping your feet, banging your head, and most likely, inspire the beardless to embrace their Montana-approved stubble. Butte, Montana born and raised, Tim Montana is not your average cowboy. Completely equipped to dominate the arena nearest you, armed with voracious distortion and truly well-oiled chops, Tim Montana tours hard and rocks even harder. Life as a fearless musician means living in accordance with Montana's motto: "We're all just one disaster away from something awesome." We want to hear from you! Interview with Candlebox

We had the pleasure of interviewing Candlebox over Zoom video! Celebrating 30 years of success, Candlebox is capping off their long and influential career with The Long Goodbye. The new 10-track collection, produced by Don Miggs, finds the group taking stock of evolving maturity, fleeting time, and lasting love, all while kicking a lot of ass. Lead single “Punks” is a cautionary message to young bands that they won’t be the hot new thing forever. Charging forward with a slashing guitar riff and rapid-fire drums, Kevin howls about quick-burning success and vacuous trends. The Long Goodbye also includes the sneering statement of independence “What Do You Need,” co-written by Nick Brown of the alt-rock band Mona, who also appears on the track, and the moody, atmospheric “Elegante,” where Kevin dives headlong into creative wordplay as Miggs and the band mimic a synth-pop vibe with guitars and drums. Elsewhere is the acoustic “Maze” and “Cellphone Jesus,” where Kevin allows some of his worldview to seep in as he searches for a sign from above for a damaged society. The Long Goodbye is ultimately a statement record, a document of a band that somehow survived an era that tragically proved too seductive for some of their peers to remain not only successful, but relevant. And after Candlebox wraps it all up at the end of the year, the hits will still live on, along with a legacy that serves to inspire the young punks who come after them. About Candlebox: Emerging from Seattle’s burgeoning mid-90s grunge scene, Candlebox quickly found mainstream success with their deep, lyrically-driven melodies and big radio hooks, as evidenced by their massive hits “Far Behind,” “You” and “Cover Me” that propelled their self-titled debut album, a defining record of the decade, to sell more than 4 million copies worldwide. Their follow-up album, Lucy, earned a platinum certification and solidified Candlebox as a tour de force in the thriving alt-rock scene. While the commercial success of the first album played a pivotal role in the band’s trajectory to the top, it was their raw and unapologetically honest live performances that ultimately solidified their place among Seattle’s elite. In 1998, Candlebox released Happy Pills, which would be their last album before going on hiatus from 2000 to 2006. In 2008, the band reformed and released their fourth album, Into The Sun, and hit the road for the first time in 10 years, touring extensively and releasing Alive In Seattle, a live album that included tracks from every era of their career. 2016 marked the triumphant return of Candlebox with the release of Disappearing In Airports, a more classic rock-tinged album hailed by many critics and fans as their best work in years. Singles “Vexatious” and “Supernova” drove the album to debut at #9 on the Billboard Charts and spurred multiple U.S. and international tours including major festival appearances at Carolina Rebellion, Welcome To Rockville, and Lollapalooza Chile. While these iconic rockers have been blazing full-steam since, releasing their album, Wolves, in 2021, and recently issuing a live, acoustic album, Live at The Neptune, Kevin and Candlebox are calling it quits in 2023, but they’re not going quietly. Interview with May-A

We had the pleasure of interviewing MAY-A over Zoom video! Australian singer-songwriter, MAY-A, will recently released her new EP, ANALYSIS PARALYSIS. You probably know MAY-A from her collab with Australian electronic superstar Flume, “Say Nothing (Feat. MAY-A).” The EP features focus track, “Guilty Conscience,” and previously released singles “Sweat You Out My System,” “Your Funeral,” “LOLA” and “Something Familiar.” The 7-track project also includes the brand new “Ifyoulikeitlikethat” and “SUPERIOR LIAR,” while showing MAY-A’s continued exploration and experimentation with new sounds and experiences. ABOUT MAY-A EP singles “Your Funeral” and “Sweat You Out My System” were both met by global applause upon their release this spring, with PAPER praising the latter track as “anthemic ‘90s-style rock…a heated breakup track, which likens a split to going cold turkey and captures all the anxiety and intensity that implies.” “The new pop/rock-meets-semi-rap track brilliantly recontextualizes the indie-pop stylings fans have grown accustomed to from the Australian phenom,” agreed Billboard. “MAY-A leans all the way in with punchy guitars and blown-out drums. Her lyricism remains top-shelf.” “The self-deprecating ‘Your Funeral’ finds (MAY-A) leaning into more alt-pop-based sonics,” declared Ones To Watch, “as she unpacks her relationship habits with satirical lyricism flowing above a driving beat.” The ongoing series of new releases follows an incredibly successful 2022 for MAY-A, which included her ARIA Award-nominated collaboration with Australian electronic superstar Flume, “Say Nothing (Feat. MAY-A),” which reached #12 on Billboard’s “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs” chart amidst a storm of high-profile media attention from Billboard, Complex and more. MAY-A joined Flume for performances of “Say Nothing” during show-stopping sets at last year’s Coachella and Governors Ball as well as on his sold-out US and Australian headline tours. MAY-A also unveiled her own unique rendition, “Say Nothing (MAY-A’s Version),” hailed by NME as “a total tone shift from the duo’s original, stripping out the song’s driving beat and Flume’s electronic elements. Instead, MAY-A opts for hauntingly hazy vocals, acoustic guitar and spacious, lo-fi production, letting the vulnerability of the song’s lyrics shine through.” Nominated for Rolling Stone Australia’s “Best New Artist” award and hailed by Billboard as “a master class in indie pop,” MAY-A made her extraordinary debut with 2021’s acclaimed Don’t Kiss Ur Friends. The EP – which received a prestigious ARIA Award nomination for “Breakthrough Artist – Release” in MAY-A’s home country of Australia – includes such inventive and self-assured tracks as “Swing Of Things,” “Time I Love To Waste,” “Green,” and “Central Station.“ Known as a dynamic and inventive live performer, MAY-A supported 5 Seconds of Summer on their recent Australian headline tour and joined Wallows on the UK/EU leg of their landmark Tell Me That It’s Over World Tour, earning praise by DORK as “an artist bringing all their anticipated hype to life.” We want to hear from you! After more than a decade together as a band, sisters Jordan Miller (lead vocals, bass) and Kylie Miller (guitar) plus closest friends Leandra Earl (guitar and keys) and Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums) are entering a new era. On new album Blame My Ex, the Juno Award-winning Toronto band channels heartbreak into self-discovery through 10 exuberant songs that revel in pain and redemption, finding strength, independence, and self-love. The result is an album of emotive transformation rendered in playful and passionate power pop. Blame My Ex is “the most authentic and real” version of The Beaches, Kylie says. Lead single “Blame Brett,” an acerbic pop-rock knockout Jordan calls “a song for all the hot messes out there,” has racked up more than 8.5 million streams on Spotify and more than 7.4 million views on TikTok. Blame My Ex, executive produced and co-written by Lowell (Madison Beer) and co-produced by Gus van Go (Metric), is no ordinary breakup record. It’s about the love that comes out of separations: the love of friendships, of bandmates, of yourself. It’s not about finding happiness because of heartbreak, as Jordan puts it: “It’s finding happiness despite it.” It’s about rediscovery, being on the precipice of something new, which is true for The Beaches in their personal lives as much as their music. Following a series of breakups—including a split from a major label they were signed to in their early teens—The Beaches are now free to make music that feels true to themselves. A period of uncertainty provided the perfect opportunity. Early in the pandemic, the band started experimenting with social media—TikTok and Instagram in particular—showing fans a more vulnerable, goofy, and down-to-earth side, referring to themselves affectionately and openly as “ur grls.” Finding self-love out of struggle is how Blame My Ex came about in the first place. It started with the jangly and aching “If a Tree Falls,” the first of the breakup songs, which became the thematic North Star around which the other tracks were built. The dark, breathy, and echoing “Everything Is Boring” is hyper-honest about depression: It sounds like a rainy night out. And it led The Beaches to create Blame My Ex’s sonic mood: new wave-tinged indie pop that’s sparkling, misty, and powerful. Blame My Ex showcases The Beaches at their most accomplished and mature, sonically and lyrically, and boasts Jordan’s finest vocal performances yet. “This is the first record I’ve ever done working with a producer who really cares and is engaged with me as a singer,” she says. You can hear the range of emotions in her voice like crystal—from pain and sadness to anger and triumph. Blame My Ex, she says, is a “diary of what it’s like to go through heartbreak: One day you’re avoiding the pain and going out and partying a lot—and the next you’re trapped in your room, facing your feelings, having an anxiety attack.” “We’re growing and finding different things out about ourselves,” says Leandra. “And we’re doing it together as four best friends who are there to support each other.” Their unyielding bond and shared journey not only makes The Beaches a musical force to be reckoned with but also a testament to the power of sisterhood and friendship. Interview with RedHook

We had the pleasure of interviewing RedHook over Zoom video! RedHook are a fiercely independent, shapeshifting alt-rock foursome from Sydney, Australia who’ve quickly accumulated a global fanbase and tens of millions of streams through their powerful songwriting and captivating live show. Featuring the core creative duo of Emmy Mack and Craig Wilkinson, two strangers from regional New South Wales whose paths collided after moving to Sydney in 2017, RedHook combine with young gun drummer Alex Powys and seasoned bassist Ned Jankovic to create heartfelt, attitude-filled and relatable alternative rock music that consistently defies classification. The strength of their debut single ‘Minute On Fire’ in 2018 was enough to attract the interest of one of the lead promoters of the UK’s iconic Download Festival, who swiftly invited RedHook over to play. The band were then snapped up by The Hen House Artist Management (worldwide) and inked booking deals with New World Artists (AUS) and Wasserman (UK/EU), going on to conquer some of Australia’s biggest music festival stages (Download, Good Things, Stonefest, BIGSOUND). They also completed their debut international tour (supporting metal titans Three Days Grace across the UK & Europe), launched their own gender diversity-inspired alternative festival in Sydney, 'UsFest', and undertook four complete Australian tours (selling out the Melbourne and Sydney legs of their own debut headline tour). As RedHook’s global fan base grew steadily with each single release and live show, many big things followed. The band were named triple j Unearthed feature artist, Kerrang! Radio feature artist and were invited to host the ABC’s iconic rage program. They’ve consistently featured as one of the top 50 most-played artists on triple j Unearthed every year since 2019. 2021 saw RedHook release their long-awaited debut EP ‘Bad Decisions’ which has ticked over 13 million Spotify streams and had its two lead singles added to rotation on triple j. The record earned praise from Kerrang! (UK), Rock Sound (UK), Rolling Stone (AUS) and many more, even scooping a 2022 AIR Independent Music Awards nomination for best punk EP or album. RedHook continued their steady rise across 2022 with their debut performances at Australia’s UNIFY Gathering, Groovin’ The Moo and boutique festival Rolling Sets, as well as playing one of the world’s most iconic rock festivals Rock AM Ring/Rock im Park in Germany alongside the likes of Green Day and Muse, accompanied by a second tour of Europe supporting The Faim. Their own headline ‘Bring Ya Mates’ tour was also a huge success with multiple sold out shows around Australia as it emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic. This was followed by a mammoth 28-date, two-month-long regional Australian tour as main support for metalcore titans In Hearts Wake and a triumphant return the Good Things festival stage alongside Bring Me The Horizon and Deftones, where RedHook made history as the first band to grace the lineup twice. In May 2022, RedHook returned with ‘Jabberwocky’ their most gut-wrenching single to date, which was immediately added to triple j high rotation and added to the cover of Spotify’s popular ‘All New Rock’ Playlist. Follow-up singles ‘SAY’ and ‘Soju’ Ft. Sly Withers have both since been added to full rotation on triple j.RedHook recently released their long-anticipated debut album, Postcard From A Living Hell! Interview with Creeper

We had the pleasure of interviewing CREEPER over Zoom video! At the end of CREEPER’s sold-out headline show at the Roundhouse, vocalist William Von Ghould stepped out to thank the audience when a mysterious figure lept from the shadows and decapitated him in front of 3300 people. The lights went down and the big screen cut to a haunted house, where the band’s reluctant social media host, the vampire familiar Darcia, deadpanned, “It’s time for a new era… and I couldn’t be more excited.” Every era in CREEPER’s strange tale closes in similarly flamboyant fashion: see also their apparent Bowie-style on-stage break-up at the end of the campaign for their debut album ‘Eternity, In Your Arms’, which left some fans in floods of tears. But in CREEPER’s ever eerie world, death is just a stepping stone towards a joyous rebirth. And now one of the most unlikely success stories in British music rises from the ashes once more with their new album ‘SANGUIVORE’. Taking a darker turn from their Top 5 record ‘Sex, Death & The Infinite Void’, ‘SANGUIVORE’ is a thrillingly theatrical new story that the band’s ever-growing army of devotees will devour themselves within. Riffing upon fearsome throwback vampire flicks such ‘Near Dark’, ‘The Lost Boys’ and ‘Interview With The Vampire’, its narrative focuses upon Mercy, a deceptively innocent yet savagely violent vampire, 19-years-old in conventional terms yet with a soul dating back some thousand years, and her relationship with Spook, an older man who falls under her control but doesn’t quite lose sight of their previous humanity. The ‘SANGUIVORE’ concept and characters have lurked in the crevices of the band’s mind for some time. When it was time to turn those ideas into a full album, two elements were key to unlocking its potential. CREEPER’s co-founder and guitarist Ian Miles had suffered from severe mental health issues as work got underway on ‘Sex, Death…’ which naturally limited his input. But this time he was not only there from the very beginning, but a lack of a full-time second guitarist effectively doubled his workload. And he really stepped up, his creativity simmering throughout the record, from melodic classic rock solos to crunching metallic riffs, the latter of which forced Von Ghould to shape his vocal melodies in a very different style from before. CREEPER’s ambitious narratives are rooted in a similarly authentic place. Or as Von Ghould summarises, “underneath all the showmanship and the bravado of it all, there's something quite true there.” ‘More Than Death’, for example, is the denouement of Mercy and Spook’s tale, but comes from the frontman’s own relationship. Friendship is also a recurring motif on the album, the beating heart behind the band, and especially the connection between Von Ghould and Miles. “It’s a very special relationship we’ve had. We've been touring since we were teenagers and now, we're almost old men and we're still doing it. If you told us when we first met that we were going to have any sort of success, I wouldn’t have believed you.” That’s the unwritten philosophy of CREEPER. Embrace everything you want to do, no matter how outlandish, excessive or ambitious, and see where the journey takes you. And it’s a journey some twenty years in the making as the grandiose scale and ripping rock opera of ‘SANGUIVORE’ transports Von Ghould back to his childhood bedroom, listening to ‘Bat Out of Hell’ on repeat. We want to hear from you! Interview with Oscar Lang

We had the pleasure of interviewing Oscar Lang over Zoom video! Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Oscar Lang has released his sophomore album Look Now via Dirty Hit. Deeply personal and sonically elevated, Look Now features some of Oscar’s most confessional and inspired songwriting yet. Teeming with emotional intimacy, Look Now feels as if it was lifted directly from the pages of Oscar’s personal journal. The 10-track collection features his newest single “Leave Me Alone,” which is both melodically sweet and infinitely relatable in its sentiment that sometimes you just want to be by yourself. A stand-out track on the album, the song describes the universally felt urge to self-isolate after a long night out. Quintessentially Oscar in its pop-fusion sound and piano-driven accompaniment, the confessional track is another example of his expert lyrical storytelling and knack for peeling back the curtain for a peek into his mind. Earlier this year, Oscar provided a powerful introduction to his new musical chapter with his soaring, symphony-soaked lead single “A Song About Me” which recalls past love over a landscape of resounding instrumentals, received airplay on BBC Radio 1, and appeared on major editorial playlists across Spotify and Apple Music. He followed up this momentous opening with the release of subsequent singles “One Foot First,” an introspective, melancholic release of emotion that dives into loss through an empathetic lens, and “Everything Unspoken" which draws strength from Oscar’s own experiences with social anxiety and further establishes the album’s emotive nature. Exploring darker themes, while still maintaining a relatively light and melodic essence, his most recent single “On God,” haunting in tone and deeply personal, offers a glimpse into Oscar’s own journey through grief and how he continues to persevere. With a sound influenced by the piano-driven ballads of icons like Elton John, Paul McCartney and Billy Joel, Look Now calls upon classic Beatles songwriting through the prism of Animal Collective and Mac DeMarco. After a break-up that left him heartbroken, Oscar channeled his emotions into his songwriting as a means of catharsis and therapeutic healing. Using the creative process as his lifeline, Oscar grapples with universal themes of personal loss and longing—drawing from his own experience with a broken heart and the lingering pain of losing his mother as a child. The result is a collection of songs that showcase his masterful honesty as a writer and soulful artistry as a musician. Maintaining a rapid momentum as he continues his takeover of the indie-pop scene, Oscar will be embarking on a headline tour of the UK this August and includes performances at major European festivals including Green Man Festival in Wales and Waves Festival in Vienna. Known for his signature sunshine lo-fi pop and unassuming, sharp songwriting, Oscar has had a momentous rise in recent years following the release of his debut album Chew The Scenery which features stand-out tracks such as “Yeah!,” “21st Century Hobby,” and “Stuck.” The critically lauded release, which quickly added to his over 100 million streams, received major praise from outlets such as SPIN, FADER, The Line Of Best Fit, NME, CLASH, The Guardian, Ones To Watch, The Sunday Times, and more. The stunning debut easily built upon the success of his early viral hits “She Likes Another Boy” and “The Moon Song” and early production work, most notably working on indie pop icon beabadoobee’s breakout hit “Coffee.” We want to hear from you!
