Interview with Stephen Sanchez

We had the pleasure of interviewing Stephen Sanchez over Zoom video. Emerging as one of the year’s fastest-rising breakthrough talents, buzzing Nashville-based singer and songwriter Stephen Sanchez debuts his highly-anticipated new EP, Easy On My Eyes, today via Mercury Records/Republic Records In addition to Stephen’s global smash “Until I Found You,” the seven track EP includes his luminous new single “See The Light.” On the song, acoustic guitar brushes up against his swooning vocals. A gorgeous hook takes flight above handclaps highlighted by a powerful crescendo with timeless grace and palpable energy. Across Easy On My Eyes, Stephen recounts an unbelievable year since his emergence. He wrote nearly all of the songs on the EP himself and teamed up with Jamie Hartman [James Bay, Lewis Capaldi] and Jon Green [Lady A, Little Big Town] on “Hey Girl.” He then worked with producers Ian Fitchuk [Kacey Musgraves, James Bay] and Konrad Snyder [Madi Diaz, Rainbow Kitten Surprise] in Nashville to bring the EP to life in one-take performances. The project illuminates his talent both as a vocalist and a songwriter. Stirring up excitement for the project’s arrival, Stephen continued to reach new career highs throughout the summer. “Until I Found You” has amassed nearly 640 million global streams to date across all platforms, is RIAA Certified Gold, just hit #5 at AAA Radio this week, and continues to climb up the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Recently, he shared the 1950’s-inspired music video for the single, which Rolling Stone exclusively gave a first look to and has collected over 20 million views since its release. Interview with Shiadanni

We had the pleasure of interviewing Shiadanni over Zoom video. A lot of self-reflection and introspection came to Shiadanni in order to make this EP. In November of 2019, Shiadanni moved away from the city, and surrounded herself in nature and silence to try to find peace. Her plans of being an artist had changed but using this time of self-reflection she decided she would make music for herself. Shortly after moving away, the pandemic hit and she was forced to live with her thoughts every day which helped analyze her life. Through music, she was able to talk to her younger self and empower her. Eventually, she was able to produce enough music to release 3 full studio albums and narrow down six powerful tracks for “Facing The Mirror.” Shiadanni has showcased her inner strength while creating the luminary cool and dynamic sound that she’s known for, leaving listeners ready for what’s next. Just recently, Shiadanni released the striking visuals for “Penny Pills” and “Velvet World.” The contrast of the blue coloring in “Penny Pills” and the captivating red in “Velvet World” shows the diverse talent she displays cinematically. ABOUT SHIADANNI Pop singers tend to prefer sunny weather to stormy skies. It’s the rare artist who has the courage to dive deep in song. But Shiadanni is no ordinary artist, and her music is anything but average. The Montreal alternative pop singer and songwriter has already demonstrated that she can bring the party: her prior singles were dancefloor burners, late-night anthems, fearless amalgamations of European club music and Latin soul. But with her latest, she’s taking us somewhere we’ve never been before — her mind. The singer and songwriter was born and raised in Guadalajara, and the echoes of Mexican pop-rock are audible in everything she does. But she's currently based in Montreal, the center of the dream-pop revolution, and the sound she's crafted there draws heavily from late-night R&B and moody, intoxicated hip-hop. With the confidence of an auteur who has found her path, Shiadanni nods toward the many places she's been and makes records that suit the whole world. We want to hear from you! Interview with GLDMTH (Ryan Guldemond Returns!)

We had the pleasure of interviewing GLDMTH over Zoom video. Frontman and songwriter, Ryan Guldemond of alt-rock touring and streaming giant MOTHER MOTHER has released his deeply personal solo project GLDMTH (pronounced gold mouth) today. As a true multi-media experience, the eleven-track album arrives with an official video for lead single “The People” which was directed, shot, and edited by Guldemond himself. The introspective video evokes the feeling of an experimental short film exposing the poignant beauty of the everyday life from which Guldemond draws his work’s awestruck and melancholic spiri. GLDMTH is available now on DSP’s, vinyl, and CD. “GLDMTH is a project where I’m able to show artistic reverence for how I see the world, which is innately strange and beautiful and profound and mundane and poignant and funny and wholesome and disturbing,” Guldemond explains. “From people, to nature, to dystopia, birdsong and dreams, I try to let the cues of life fuel the sound and imagery of GLDMTH. Whether it's a conversation, the rhythm of a train, or caution tape strung up on a swing set during a pandemic, it's all fuel for the project which is driven by music, photography, poetry and videography. I feel very grateful to have a space where I’m able to be so freely creative, using my favourite mediums, to metabolize the human experience in an artful manner.” In addition to the hauntingly beautiful official video for “The People,” each track from the album has been released as a lyric video featuring animated imagery. In addition, Guldemond curated photographs from his archive, resulting in a visual representation for each song on the album. These striking images make up the artwork for the physical package. See below for several examples of these photographs, and insights into a few of the songs from Guldemond. We want to hear from you! Interview with Carly Rose

We had the pleasure of interviewing Carly Rose over Zoom video. Ten years ago, a 13-year-old dazzled a panel of judges that included Britney Spears, Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, and L.A. Reid, on the second season of Fox’s The X Factor. She then went off to win the hearts of the world with her stunning cover of Karmin’s “Brokenhearted” solidifying her place in pop culture history. The now 23-year-old Carly Rose is commemorating the 10th anniversary of the show and revisiting this time of her life with her grown-up interpretation of “Brokenhearted,” out today worldwide across all digital platforms. At age seven, Carly snagged a role in the Broadway production of Les Misérables, and began performing in theater, on TV and in films, and touring nationally. At 13, her instincts lead her to audition for The X Factor. Her intuition proved to be spot on. The little girl with the big voice made the cut, was a fan-favorite, and went on to become the runner-up, the youngest in the show’s history. Following the conclusion of her run on The X-Factor, while still under the glare of the spotlight, Carly and her family made the decision for her to have a childhood away from the limelight. This gave her the freedom to pursue an education, and develop into a fully formed artist who approaches performing and songwriting with a level of focus and maturity well beyond her 23 years, amassing an impressive catalog of original music. For years Carly shied away from associating herself with the show, but it was the original X Factor fans, as well as the community that she cultivated on social media that encouraged her to embrace nostalgia and this part of her life. After posting a number of tongue-in-cheek TikTok videos referencing her time on the show, she came to see that people really cared and were genuinely interested. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Carly looks at this exercise, especially with the direction of the music video, as embracing this chapter of her story, and more importantly bringing a sense of joy to her fans. The video, directed by Claire Schmitt, gives a special nod to that very magical moment. We want to hear from you! Interview with Tyson Motsenbocker

We had the pleasure of interviewing Tyson Motsenbocker over Zoom video. Where do dreams go when you become an adult? Well, they don’t disappear or dissolve into the ether. Those dreams simply change with you. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t still grasp the way they made you feel. As such, we treasure memories by recalling them and sharing them as often as possible. Tyson Motsenbocker preserves those youthful memories in his music, etching them into the fabric of the songs. The Washington-born and California based singer and songwriter encases them in lithe melodies, upbeat soundscapes, and ponderous lyrics. After generating tens of millions of streams and cultivating a devout fan base, he examines the jump from childhood to adulthood – or maybe just the space between the two – on his third full-length offering, Milk Teeth [Tooth & Nail]. Tyson has consistently tuned into such emotions with relatability and vulnerability. Following his 2016 debut LP Letters to Lost Loves, he spent as much time as possible on the road, performing countless shows and captivating audiences across America and beyond. However, he connected deeply on 2020’s Someday I’ll Make It All Up To You. Meanwhile, “Autumn Love” was generating two and a half million Spotify streams. The followup single “Sunday Morning” followed close behind with nearly two million Spotify streams. Just a handful of shows into what was booked to be a two year touring schedule, Covid 19 shut all touring down. Motsenbocker and his band headed home, where a period of reflection ensued, setting the foundation for what would become Milk Teeth. Tyson hit the studio in Orange County, California with producer Nathan Cimino, drummer James McCalister, bassist Patrick Dodd and keyboardist Matthew Wright. Thematically reflected in the title (another name for “baby teeth”), the music struck a sweet spot akin to the “summer after you graduate from high school where you’re walking the line between the confusion and excitement of childhood and the gravity of being an adult.” In the end, Tyson is an adult, and it ain’t so bad. In fact, it sounds beautiful on Milk Teeth. We want to hear from you! Elliot digs into her deepest emotions while crafting finely wrought pop songs that feel both incredibly intimate and otherworldly. The contrast between her to-the-bone lead vocal, which precisely describes her internal torment, and the voices surrounding her, a hovering choir accompaniment made up of multiple tracks of Kings’ own voice and arranged by chief collaborator halfrhymes, results in an out-of- time musical experience that heightens all the knotty emotions outlined in her lyrics as she explores themes of mental health, innocence, heartbreak, growth, and hope. Elliot recently concluded supporting U.S. pop-rock megaforce Imagine Dragons on their North American stadium tour, which kicked off in early August. She also took the School Night stage on September 12th at Bardot in Los Angeles alongside Josh Fudge, Reve, and Cian Ducrot. Interview with Chappell Roan (Chappell Returns!)

We had the pleasure of interviewing Chappell Roan over Zoom video. Chappell Roan recently released her new song “Femininomenon”! “In 2018, Chappell Roan packed everything she owned into the back of her car and drove three days straight from her tiny Missouri hometown, to make L.A. her home. Not long after landing in her new city, Chappell spent an outrageously fun night out at iconic gay bar The Abbey—an experience that soon altered her entire trajectory as an artist. “All of a sudden I realized I could truly be any way I wanted to be, and no one would bat an eye,” says Chappell. “It was so different from home, where I always had such a hard time being myself and felt like I’d be judged for being different or being creative. I just felt overwhelmed with complete love and acceptance, and from then on I started writing songs as the real me.” With more new music coming very soon, Chappell Roan’s transformation into a glittery pop artist is well underway.” We want to hear from you! Interview with Hevenshe

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jenna McDougall of Hevenshe over Zoom video. You know her as the explosive frontwoman of the worldwide adored, internationally recognised punk-rock band, Tonight Alive. Stepping outside of the walls of the world she has built for herself over the last 14 years, Jenna McDougall emerges from musical hiatus to birth her new independent project, Hevenshe. Hevenshe (Heaven – she, a mirrored expression of Divine Feminine) offers us a bold delivery of original, open letter artistry, both lyrically striking and sonically timeless. Welcoming the entire spectrum of emotion, McDougall once again invites her beloved audience into tell-all melodic journeys, rippling with transcendence. Hevenshe is simultaneously a departure from McDougall’s punk-emo roots and a continuation of her original mission: self-empowerment and emotional freedom. Hevenshe is a self-managed and independently released project on the artist’s budding label PREMA Records. For the first time in over a decade, McDougall is experiencing what it's like to be an unestablished artist. This seems to excite, rather than intimidate her. “No One Will Ever Love You” brings a level of familiarity & comfort. With 4 years between musical releases, Hevenshe will have you hooked with her signature vocals, relatable lyrics and cathartic compositions. Equal parts tenacity and tenderness, this song covers themes of both heartbreak and acceptance, with a message that McDougall was denied to deliver. She agreed this outlet was therapeutic for her & hopes it will be the same for listeners. Having been off the road for three years, McDougall says she is “Ready to thrust my creative life into the public space again. I want to perform. It’s a huge part of me and how I experience the world. I love connecting with people, I love travelling and I love performing. I can’t get enough of it! So, I want to make up for lost time.” We want to hear from you! Interview with Austin Tolliver

We had the pleasure of interviewing Austin Tolliver over Zoom video. Austin Tolliver’s early ambitions were to become a professional athlete. It looked like the Louisiana native was headed that way when he started playing football in college at New Mexico State University (and college baseball at Texas Tech University) and quickly became recognized for his athletic prowess. However, his path changed when he moved to Nashville and fell in love with music. The country-rap blend of Ride 4 Me displays the eclectic layers of Austin Tolliver's musical talents. “From country to rap to rock, my music is a crossover of different genres. I infuse the music I grew up on into my style,” commented Tolliver. His diverse influences ranged from Tupac, Nelly, Ludacris, 50 Cent and Eminem to George Strait, Tim McGraw, Billy Ray Cyrus, Colt Ford and Shenandoah. Sonic evidence of this can be heard across Tolliver’s debut full-length album, Ride 4 Me. In college, Tolliver admittedly wasn’t the best student. As long as he excelled at sports, the educational requirements took a back seat. “I was a football and baseball player at New Mexico State University and Texas Tech University. My job as a student athlete was to win games, to sell tickets, break records, and win damn championships. I did just that.” Tolliver’s father, who was an NFL player and called himself “the rednecks’ quarterback,” taught his son to strive to be the best whether on stage or in the stadium as “people paid their hard-earned money to come and be entertained.” Talent, perseverance and a winning attitude lead Tolliver to the attention of Average Joes Entertainment. The Nashville-based record label signed Tolliver and released his debut single, “Tip My Hat,” in late 2020. His 2021 singles, “Yodelay You Down” and “Ride 4 Me” caught the ears of fans and kept their attention through every new music release after. We want to hear from you! Interview with Jonathan Terrell

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jonathan Terrell over Zoom video. In the early days, Jonathan Terrell balanced his burgeoning solo career with his work as frontman of local rock n roll powerhouse, Not in the Face, showing a duality and versatility rarely seen in country. Early records like 2008’s Trials & Stimulations and 2015’s Past the Lights of Town established him as a boozy street poet, a gun-toting feminist (Vice) with the theatrics of a Texas Springsteen and the introspective power of Townes Van Zandt. He followed those records with his latest album, 2020’s Westward, which was hailed by Rolling Stone as “irresistible.” “I wrote this song at a Paul Simon concert about a beautiful woman I saw flying down the stairs to her seat, holding 2 big cups of beer,” says recording artist Jonathan Terrell in his signature Texas twang of his newly released tune, “I Know.” The first release from Terrell’s upcoming EP, A Couple, 2, 3, the beginnings of “I Know” kicked off a whole lot more in Terrell’s life than meets the eye. “I could only make out her silhouette between her and the lights from the stage but I was so moved that I had to step outside and write this whole song on my phone, so as to not be an asshole on my phone at a Paul Simon show,” he remembers fondly. The beautiful woman turned instant muse? That’s Christina, and she’s now Terrell’s fiancée. “I Know” comes across earnest and true; a testament to that moment when Terrell knew exactly what Christina meant to him, delivered through his raw, pure voice and a straightforward groove somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and Robert Earl Keen. Produced by Beau Bedford (The Texas Gentlemen) at Dallas’s beloved Modern Electric Studios, like the rest of A Couple, 2, 3, “I Know” is available to stream and fans can also pre-save or pre-order A Couple, 2, 3 ahead of its September 9th release via Range Music We want to hear from you! Interview with Zyah Belle

We had the pleasure of interviewing Zyah Belle over Zoom video. When you know yourself, nothing can stop you… Zyah Belle both realizes and understands her power as a singer, songwriter, producer, and arranger. She’s reached this realization through a tireless grind, going from countless open mics and gigs at dimly lit bars in Northern California to collaborating with some of the most celebrated icons in history. At the same time, she’s also grown into an uncompromising and undeniable solo artist in her own right with widespread critical acclaim and millions of streams. Hailing from the small town of Vallejo, CA, she initially discovered music in church. Mom served as the choir director, so Zyah participated in children’s choir as soon as she could. Inspired by her two older sisters, she simultaneously developed a passion for R&B. Raised by a single mother and her siblings, she found herself surrounded by “powerful women.” Among many highlights, she co-wrote and collaborated with Snoop Dogg on “Trouble,” which served as the end credits song for Dog Gone Trouble on NETFLIX. She lent her voice to Terrace Martin’s “Never Saw It Coming” [feat. Zyah Belle & Problem] in addition to Too $hort’s “I Stay Up” and “Get Top.” Recording and performing with Kanye West’s Sunday Service Choir, her voice boomed on chart-topping #1 releases such as ye and Jesus Is King. The latter even earned “Top Christian Album” and “Top Gospel Album” at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards and “Best Contemporary Christian Music Album” at the 2021 GRAMMY® Awards. Following New Levels [2016] and IX [2019], Zyah’s 2021 Who’s Listening Anyway EP racked up millions of streams and incited widespread critical acclaim. Vibe touted it on “The 21 Best R&;B Albums of 2021” and went on to declare, “Belle is able to fold the styles of Erykah Badu’s melodic rawness, Anderson .Paak’s wittiness, and the essence of ‘90s neo-soul into a terse seven-track body of work.” Working with the likes of Hollywood Cole, Sam Barsh, and PBnJ, she levels up yet again on Yam Grier. Cut at the legendary Doghouse Studio in Los Angeles, she strikes a balance between 21 st century soul and classic seventies spirit—suggested by the title Yam Grier. We want to hear from you! Interview with Mikalah Gordon

We had the pleasure of interviewing Mikalah Gordon over Zoom video. Mikalah has been able to find strength and healing from rough times through the power of music, with the journey to her first-ever record. In the height of the Pandemic, the artist found herself in a place of depression (like many of us) after losing her best friend (her grandmother) and being stuck in the world we were forced to live through in 2020. To help process her emotions, her friend and mutual Idol alum, Brandon Rogers, invited her into the studio to write out her feelings. This collaborative effort also features her first ever bilingual track, musicians who’ve worked with LGTBQ+ icon Lady Gaga, and even a duet with Mikalah’s brother (who recently left to join the U.S. Army) leading to a cathartic record that shares Mikalah’s story and universal themes of love, loss, and self-acceptance. Now, Mikalah has just released her newest single, “Hands Off” off of her debut album VIVIAN, named after the singer’s later grandmother. Mikalah Gordon knows how to take multifaceted to a whole new level. A Vegas native and proud LGBTQ+ Italian-American, Mikalah channels her love of family, her culture, and entertainment across music, comedy, acting, and as a TV personality/host. At only 17 years old, her time as a Top 12 contestant on American Idol Season 4 kick started her career with a national audience that took to her unique stage presence and powerful vocals. Mikalah would soon after return to Idol as a co-host for “American Idol Extra” and go on to create her own YouTube series, Idolatry, where she interviewed former coaches and contestants In addition to this exciting step into music, Mikalah continues to host Channel Q’s ‘The Morning Beat’ and World’s Funniest & Weirdest on the CW. Interview with Duncan Laurence

We had the pleasure of interviewing Duncan Laurence over Zoom video. Duncan Laurence shared the official video for his new single, “Electric Life.” Shot in Amsterdam, the sepia-drenched video blurs the line between heaven and earth as Laurence, clad in a gossamer white shirt, performs the song alongside a troupe of choreographed hands, reaching out to support and encourage him from another world. Like the song, which features dynamic, colorful production inspired by ’70s icons like Elton John and Queen, the celebratory clip is imbued with a sense of joy. Laurence won the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with “Arcade.” The song took the #1 spot on Spotify’s Global Viral chart on release and ultimately took off on Tik Tok with now over 56 billion views on the platform. Combined global streams of the song across all platforms have surpassed 10 billion and the single has attained Gold/Platinum certifications in 37 countries, including Platinum in the U.S., where it was a top 10 hit at Adult Contemporary radio. Placing in the top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100, “Arcade” was the first Eurovision Song Contest winner to enter the prestigious chart in 45 years. “Arcade” was re-released in 2020 a new verse featuring FLETCHER. Working with women, particularly members of the LGBTQIA+ community, is a priority for Laurence. His crew on the visual for “Electric Life” and other forthcoming singles, for example, is composed predominantly of women. “Electric Life” is the first track to be released from Laurence’s sessions with his fiancé, songwriter Jordan Garfield, and producer Paul Phamous (Frank Ocean, Nick Jonas). His ultimate goal with the song is to promote healing. “I want people to find comfort when they listen to it,” he says. “I want them to think of that one person that they really miss and celebrate them.” We want to hear from you! Interview with mxmtoon

We had the pleasure of interviewing mxmtoon over Zoom video. In May, mxmtoon released her new album rising into the world, a collection of songs that argue growth is always evolving. The album has been streamed more than 20 million times since then and received critical acclaim including Song Exploder’s deep dive into “mona lisa’, and showed the singer-songwriter-producer-podcaster and social activist reaching new heights creatively. mxmtoon has announced a deluxe version of rising to be released September 16th. In late 2019, Maia had just finished her first full tour as mxmtoon, and she felt inspired by the prospects of her career and life to come — two new EPs in the making, more shows, a planned move to join her brother in New York. But as the pandemic took hold, she returned to her parents’ home, working to return to her old writing habits in that guest bedroom-turned-makeshift studio. She felt stuck, however, so suspended in time and place she barely wrote anything at all during 2020. What’s more, she lost a cherished grandfather to leukemia, rushing to see him one last time in Florida. On rising, Maia relates the story of visiting her dying grandfather during the song “florida”. She remains under cover of chiming acoustic guitars and cascading cymbal washes, a choice that highlights the writing’s poignant intimacy. Laced with arcing strings and textural harmonies, the exquisite “dizzy” captures the vertigo of someone who has spent four years in the public eye but, more broadly, anyone who thinks too much about the perception of online strangers. These more mellow moments betray the depth of their peppy counterparts and the breadth of experience that Maia, now 21, frontloads into mxmtoon. For Maia, rising represents the culmination of an unintended trilogy that also includes dawn and dusk, the dual EPs she released in 2020. It’s true that rising continues their era of rapid musical growth for mxmtoon. But these dozen songs are the definitive steps forward for mxmtoon, because they are just as ingenious and honest and unguarded musically as Maia has always been lyrically. Much of rising unfurls from that same premise — mxmtoon’s hallmarked vulnerability buttressed by a newfound musical effervescence and might. These are the songs, as Maia puts it, that she wished existed when she struggled as a teen. They are instruction manuals for surviving, written We want to hear from you! Interview with Gemma Laurence

We had the pleasure of interviewing Gemma Laurence over Zoom video. Gemma Laurence is a Brooklyn-based indie folk singer-songwriter from the coast of Maine. Categorizing herself as “Sapphic folk,” Laurence takes inspiration from queer femme poets and songwriters from the past and present: Adrianne Lenker, Tomberlin, Elizabeth Bishop, Adrienne Rich, and Sappho to name a few. A gifted songwriter with a predilection for poetry, Laurence braids imagery into her lyrics with the ease of a seasoned storyteller. Having grown up on the coast of Maine and the hills of Oxfordshire, Laurence’s time on both sides of the Atlantic influenced her unique sound: a fusion of foot-stomping Americana with a hint of English folk. The lilt of Laurence’s vocals and the poetic lyricism of her music has drawn comparisons to artists like Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling, Courtney Marie Andrews, and Haley Heynderickx. Blending banjo riffs with lush harmonies and acoustic guitar melodies, Laurence’s timeless tracks call her listeners home to the people and places left behind for new beginnings. Her debut album, Crooked Heart, was released in 2019, and her second full-length album, Lavender, is slated for release on November 4th, 2022 in Better Company Records. The title track "Lavender" is out now. We want to hear from you! Interview with Rudy Touzet

We had the pleasure of interviewing Rudy Touzet over Zoom video. Miami based pop singer-songwriter Rudy Touzet recently released his “Goodnight Moon” & “Treason” ahead of the release of his debut EP later this year. These singles were released following exclusive premieres with Wonderland Magazine /Atwood Magazine and EQ Music / Queerty. The release of these two singles follow the success of Rudy’s 2021 single releases “Take It As A Win,” “I Don’t Know,” “Runaway,”and “Say Less,” which have received a great deal of buzz for this new artist. Each of those songs reflected a different chapter in Rudy’s life, from love to heartache, endings, and new beginnings. These premieres kick off a string of releases that will not only display Rudy’s singing and song writing ability, but also his versatility. He wrote his first song at eight years old titled “The Only Girl”—a love song for his crush—and continued his love of songwriting through journaling which led to creating more songs. By high school he was still honing his craft, writing more songs and even considering auditioning for reality competition series like American Idol and The Voice. He eventually felt the timing was right to send his music to family friend, music executive Charlie Walk, who in turn wanted Rudy as part of his Music Mastery Mentorship Program. Through there, Rudy connected with his now production team Luke Shrestha and Simon Jay, collectively known as the critically-acclaimed Chapters. And as they say since then the rest is history, as Rudy has released a slew of buzz worthy singles throughout 2021 setting a foundation of what is to come in 2022. We want to hear from you! Interview with Brandy Haze

We had the pleasure of interviewing Brandy Haze over Zoom video. Originally from Chino Hills, California, multi-talented Los Angeles-based songwriter Brandy Haze is primarily influenced by contemporary R&B, trap, house, and electronic meets pop dance grooves. With her debut project, "Roses," Brandy Haze teamed up with Ian Thomas & Leven Kali to create a new style and approach to love songs. The project set a significant milestone for Brandy, whose talent continues to blossom into something special. Upon release, the single "Conditional" instantly became a cult classic featured on SoundCloud's Artist to Watch 2018 playlist. Brandy returned in 2020 with a fusion sound for her EP "Garden Fire. This 4-track project was an enamoring display of self-expression on love and relationships. With two bodies of work already under her belt, Brandy Haze introduced her well-received project "Silhouette" in February 2021. "Silhouette" boasts a beautiful track list of four sultry and seductive tracks that instantly fill the day or night with an air of nostalgia and charm. She then followed up with a 6-track EP, "That's Unfortunate," a musical escape where the songwriter created a unique yet relatable world that listeners can immerse themselves. With Brandy's latest project, "Silhouette, Vol 2", the songstress tackles topics that grapple with the confusion of close friendships, demanding communication, and falling deeply in love without hesitation. Featuring the hit singles such as "Anxious," "Swing My Way," and "Sirens," Brandy is taking her creativity to new levels. From grappling with the confusion of close friendships in her single "Anxious" to demanding communication in her single "Swing My Way," then to falling in love with her song "Sirens" as she takes listeners on a journey. Brandy Haze has also delivered two visuals for both "Anxious" & "Swing My Way." Self-directed by the artist herself, Brandy displays a softer side than her other visuals and brings forward a love story that everyone can relate to at some point in their life. With sexy chill vibes and signature purple hues, the video follows Brandy as she sings through each sultry lyric. The revolving thoughts of love and confusion are met with seductive dance elements that take listeners on a journey to different outcomes. We want to hear from you! Interview with The Sometimes Island

We had the pleasure of interviewing The Sometimes Island over Zoom video. The Sometimes Island are a synth-forward pop band based in Los Angeles and Albuquerque. The exciting and highly visual live band is comprised of charismatic frontman Matt Blankenship Jr and anchored by drummer Nick Lopiano. Their latest single, “Acapulco” explores themes of escapism and excitement as Blankenship Jr shares, “I like to juxtapose a theme with a sound and have them work together that makes the tension not immediately apparent.” Paying tribute to New Mexico, the songwriter continues, "I wrote Acapulco in Albuquerque, which is an amazing place but a hard word to sing." With musical influences from the likes of Townes Van Zandt and Deadmau5, “Acapulco” explores the excitement of beginning a new chapter of life, yet the contrasting sentiment that comes with it. Blankenship Jr states, “I wrote the song Acapulco to capture that listless ennui I was trapped under in Los Angeles, framing it with a fantasy of an ignored lover reaching their breaking point, leaving and abruptly buying a plane ticket.” The narrative almost ironically pairs with a dream-pop backing, harmonic rhythms, John Mayer inspired guitar riff and a truly contagious chemistry. The accompanying cinematic music video for “Acapulco” beautifully mirrors the song's story, as we witness the demise of a relationship, where one party decides to flee and head for a better, more wholesome life. Their forms of expression and musical ingenuity make The Sometimes Island ones to watch this year. With their previous EP Beverly & Barbara peaking at #2 internationally on Apple’s Alternative chart, rocketing past even the likes of Billie Eilish, the duo have also amounted over 800,000 monthly listeners, with streaming numbers in the millions. Interview with Brandon Stansell

We had the pleasure of interviewing Brandon Stansell over Zoom video. Seven years after the release of his debut single, singer/songwriter Brandon Stansell has come to occupy a unique niche within country music. He has been an ardent advocate for the queer community and the advancement of LGBTQ artists in the still widley conservative genre. In 2018, Brandon’s music video for his single “Hometown” was the first LGBTQ-themed video to ever premiere on CMT. It was also named one of Rolling Stone’s 10 Best Country Videos of the Year. In 2020, he released Hurt People (the title track featuring Cam) - a heartbreaking EP about his own family’s response to his coming out. The EP also served as the soundtrack to his documentary, Three Chords And A Lie, where the Tennessee-born artist lays bare his struggles with his Southern Baptist family as he prepares for his first hometown show. The documentary was produced by OutTV and Leslie Jordan and premiered at OutFest in Los Angeles in August 2020. Brandon’s newest project, This Must Be The Place, released September 2021 via PEG Records and Warner Music Group/ADA is an amalgam of the tear-inducing country music of his previous efforts and a compelling pop vibrancy of hope. Interview with MILES

We had the pleasure of interviewing MILES over Zoom video. MILES’ story might be almost as wild as his fusion of breezy hip-hop, earthshaking pop, and grimy rock. The St. Louis-born and Los Angeles-based singer and rapper bobs and weaves past genre lines with an unpredictable and undeniable style of his own. Predestining their son for music, mom and dad named him in homage to jazz icon Miles Davis. In turn, MILES cranked his old man’s jazz records as well as Kirk Franklin, Bill Withers, Lauryn Hill, Black Eyed Peas, and Lil Wayne. MILES developed a following online in 2020 before cooking up “WHAT IN TARNATION” back in St. Louis. Interview with MARO

We had the pleasure of interviewing MARO over Zoom video. MARO, born and raised in Portugal, started her music studies at the age of four. Her mother, a music teacher, and her father, a music lover, MARO grew up gathering many sounds ranging from Rajery and Milton Nascimento to The Beatles and Bulgarian choirs. She crossed the pond to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where she linked up with “best friend” and regular collaborator John Blanda [Khalid, John Legend]. Settling in Los Angeles upon graduation, she released a series of LPs and caught the attention of multi-GRAMMY® Award winner Jacob Collier who championed her music early on. Signing to Quincy Jones Productions, she accompanied Jacob on tour as a featured vocalist and instrumentalist. In 2021, she teamed up with NASAYA for the PIRILAMPO EP. Of the latter, Billboard raved, “The whole thing is exquisite.” She lent her voice to Odesza’s 2022 single “Better Now,” while “saudade, saudade” appeared on the Festival da Canção 2022 compilation and made waves internationally. Beyond going gold in Portugal and eclipsing 11 million Spotify streams, it elevated her to the finals of EUROVISION 2022, placing in the Top 10. Interview with Patrick Holland

We had the pleasure of interviewing Patrick Holland over Zoom video. Patrick Holland is no stranger to ghosts. In the last several years, the Montreal-based musician/producer has become accustomed to odd noises, electronics breaking, misplaced items, and, on a recent occasion, a glass shattering spontaneously next to him. Annoying, to be sure, but he’s made peace with it; the unknown, after all, is only frightening if we allow it to be. This attitude is at the heart of Holland’s new album - addressed in part to an unnamed, pseudo-paranormal “other,” You’re The Boss is his first foray into guitar-driven indie pop, full of upbeat reflections on relinquishing control. Like most touring musicians, 2020 found Holland at a crossroads. Known primarily for his electronic releases under aliases such as Project Pablo and Jump Source, he’d spent the last several years traveling the world playing DJ sets and festivals. Behind the scenes, he was also working as a mixing engineer, producer and remixer, lending his technical prowess to TOPS, Cut Copy, Jacques Greene, Homeshake, and more. In the standstill of the early pandemic, uncertainty manifested itself in the “ghost” - an amalgamation of Holland’s personal anxieties, the open-endedness of the future, and other unexplained phenomena. Rather than succumb to this doubt, however, Holland befriended it. “You’re the boss” became a sort of mantra in this effort, a reminder to surrender control as he dove into unfamiliar terrain. Over a period of several months, Holland wrote and recorded the album in tandem, playing most of the instruments himself as well as writing and singing lyrics for the first time in his recorded work. Despite covering a lot of sonic ground, You’re The Boss also sounds remarkably cohesive, a testament to Holland’s airtight production and mixing capabilities. There’s tension on this record despite its gloss, to be sure - experimenting with lyricism and singing for the first time was an exercise in vulnerability for Holland, and the resulting reflections find him grappling with self-doubt. While it’s a stylistic pivot from the house and ambient textures of his prior releases, the keen melodic sensibilities that have always underpinned his music are on full display here. It’s ironic, in a way, that an album about relinquishing control would turn out to be such a masterful display of creative faculty. Long-standing fans of Holland’s will find this unsurprising. Though it’s full of firsts, You’re The Boss sounds like the work of an indie artist decades into their career. We want to hear from you! Interview with Des Rocs

We had the pleasure of interviewing Des Rocs over Zoom video. NYC-native Des Rocs released the official video for “Manic Memories,” his first single release since his critically-acclaimed 2021 debut album A Real Good Person In A Real Bad Place. “Manic Memories” combines the cathartic choruses and DIY-aesthetic that is the hallmark of Des' signature "bedroom arena rock" sound. The news follows Des Rocs’ July 4 announcement on social media that he will be independently releasing a string of new singles this year. “‘Manic Memories’ is a letter to the demons that haunt our past,” explains Danny Rocco, best known by his stage name Des Rocs. “The last few years have been a roller coaster, and writing about those demons provided the courage to navigate my own darkness. For anyone haunted by their past - I hope this song can be a beacon of light to guide you through the wilderness.” In September 2021, Des Rocs released his debut album A Real Good Person In A Real Bad Place and received instant praise from Loudwire (“addictive”), Guitar World (“fierce”), Rolling Stone, SPIN and Alternative Press (“groundbreaking”). The album received further acclaim from The Aquarian, American Songwriter and Premier Guitar. Consequence of Sound named the album’s first single “MMC” “ of the most exhilarating rock singles of 2021” while SPIN named his album release show at Bowery Ballroom one of the “Best Concerts of 2021,” praising his “Wembley-size energy” and proclaiming “Des Rocs is not to be missed in 2022.” We want to hear from you!
