About
Our first-Saturday-of-the-month retrospective series continues with a deep dive into the catalogue of a record company founded in Chicago in 1951. United Records issued discs by blues artists such as Junior Wells, Memphis Slim, Roosevelt Sykes and Robert Nighthawk. It was also noteable for the great of amount of music it released performed in the doowop style. Most of United's output was eventually acquired by Bob Koester of Delmark Records, who made most of it available through comprehensive reissues. As well, we will take a look at the artistry of the recently departed Canadian guitarist Ellen McIlwaine.
