USC Triple-Double Podcast: Women of Troy advance to Sweet 16; Andy Enfield heading to SMU?

The USC Triple-Double Podcast is back with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) returning to break down the Women of Troy's first week of action in the NCAA tournament, including their first NCAA tournament win since 2006 and advancing to their first Sweet 16 in 30 years. The Trojans defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 87-55, jumping out to a 21-2 run and never looking back, and then they tussled with Kansas before coming away with a 73-55 victory that sends them to Portland, Ore. for a Sweet 16 matchup against Baylor and a potential Elite Eight game against UConn. Shotgun and Connor break down all the action played in an electric environment at the Galen Center where the fans brought the noise and lingered outside the arena even after the games to celebrate with the players. They look at the elite efforts of JuJu Watkins and McKenzie Forbes as well as role players, such as Kayla Williams and Clarice Akunwafo, stepping up and being difference makers that changed the tide of games. The podcasting duo also delve into the news of men's basketball head coach Andy Enfield being expected to be hired by Southern Methodist to take over as its new head coach as it transitions into the ACC next season. Shotgun and Connor also give their No. 1 choice for an Enfield replacement if the SMU hire becomes official. After a short break, Shotgun and Connor preview the upcoming Sweet 16 matchup against Baylor and potential Elite Eight matchups against Connecticut and Duke for the Women of Troy this weekend at the Moda Center in Portland. Tunnel Vision: USC spring ball week one recap, multiple major football commits plus women's hoops surging

On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette are back in studio to give a detailed breakdown of the first week of USC spring football practice that included the debut of several new position coaches, lots of new faces and transformed physiques on display. All of the guys were out there on Howard Jones Field checking out the action and interviewing all of the key players and coaches to see how that first week of spring, with an entire new defensive staff and new running backs coach, came together. It was also a huge recruiting weekend for the Trojans with future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald on campus with new defensive line coach Eric Henderson to help sell the USC program to the future generation. His presence apparently had immediate results with Sunday commitments from five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry, four-star edge Isaiah Gibson plus 2026 cornerback Dominick Kelly. USC Triple-Double: Previewing Women of Troy NCAA tournament run; wrapping up disappointing men's season

The USC Triple-Double Podcast returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the Women of Troy's NCAA tournament selection and their potential tournament run, which will begin at the Galen Center Saturday at 1:30 p.m. PDT against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. They also look at the final week of action for the USC Trojan men, who needed to make an NC State-esque run through the Pac-12 Tournament to win a spot in the NCAA tournament, but instead couldn't buy a bucket in a blowout loss to Arizona to end the season. Shotgun and Connor wrap up the disappointing men's season and talk about how different the roster will look next year with at least half the team expected to exit with Boogie Ellis, DJ Rodman and Joshua Morgan out of eligibility; Isaiah Collier expected to depart to be a first-round draft pick; and Kijani Wright, Oziyah Sellers and walk-on Zach Brooker already having entered the NCAA transfer portal. They also provide an NCAA transfer portal wish list of what they'd like to see the Trojans try to add to their roster this offseason. The Women of Troy enter the NCAA tournament No. 3 in the final Associated Press poll of the season, their highest ranking in the final top 25 poll since Cheryl Miller was on campus. The Trojans also earned the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA tournament and received a favorable bracket despite Ohio State being the No. 2 seed and Connecticut being the No. 3 seed in USC's Portland 3 Regional. After a short break, Shotgun and Connor preview the upcoming matchup and potential matchups for the Women of Troy this weekend at the Galen Center, including a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi team that may be a No. 16-seed, but could challenge USC with its defense, one of the nation's best in field goal percentage defense and three-point percentage defense. The podcasting duo also look forward to this week's men's Pac-12 Tournament where the Trojans will take on Washington at noon on Wednesday with the winner advancing to face top-seed Arizona Thursday at noon. Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith return with another episode of the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down the fourth week of action in the 2024 season, including the opening Pac-12 Conference series. Again, it was a week where USC baseball showed glimpses of the team it can be, but ultimately struggled to get in the win column. They break down USC's 2-3 extended week, which included a 'home' series loss to Arizona where the Trojans were blown out in the first two games and then got an electric outing from junior starting pitcher Eric Hammond in the series finale to salvage the weekend. USC Triple-Double Podcast: Women of Troy win Pac-12 Tournament; men knock off No. 5 Arizona

The USC Triple-Double Podcast returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the Women of Troy's run through the Pac-12 Tournament gauntlet by outlasting Arizona, beating No. 7 UCLA in double overtime and dominating No. 2 Stanford in the championship game to win their first conference tournament title since 2014. They also look at the men's version of the Trojans winning three straight games, including ending the regular season with a bang by picking up their first top-five win since 2008. The Women of Troy move up to No. 3, earning their first top-three ranking in the Associated Press top 25 poll since Cheryl Miller was on campus 38 years prior. The Trojans are No. 10 in the NET rankings after claiming two more wins over teams in the top 10 of the NET rankings, but they likely will be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament after their march to the title in the final Pac-12 Tournament. The men's team moved up in the seeding for their edition of the Pac-12 Tournament after a pair of wins over the Arizona schools, including a win over No. 5 Arizona that ended up pushing the Trojans into a three-way tie for the No. 9 spot. USCFootball.com women's basketball beat writer Ahmad Akkaoui joins the show to discuss the atmosphere in the MGM Garden Arena throughout the women's Pac-12 Tournament and talk about where he's seen Lindsay Gottlieb's squad grow throughout the season while covering the Women of Troy. He discusses the support USC's roles players and reserves have provided for star freshman JuJu Watkins, who scored a career-worst nine points in the championship game while drawing attention that allowed her teammates to thrive. After a short break, Shotgun and Connor break down all the latest action for both teams, including the continued positive impact Kayla Williams is making off the Women of Troy bench and the big strides forward Rayah Marshall has made in the last few weeks. They also give Pac-12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player McKenzie Forbes her flowers after a 26-point performance in the championship game and discuss a very cool move from Watkins to spread the love to her teammates. The podcasting duo also takes a look at how the USC men were able to dominate a game against No. 5 Arizona despite being outrebounded, behind the all-around performances of Kobe Johnson and DJ Rodman. Their play has really opened things up for the Trojans, who are shooting free throws and defending at a clip better than they have done all season. Shotgun and Connor also look forward to this week's men's Pac-12 Tournament where the Trojans will take on Washington at noon on Wednesday with the winner advancing to face top-seed Arizona Thursday at noon. Dedeaux Download: Assistant Andy Jenkins says Trojans have to fix problems with hard work

Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith return with another episode of the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down the third week of action in the 2024 season -- one where USC baseball showed glimpses of the team it can be, but ultimately struggled to get in the win column. They break down USC's 1-4 extended week, which included three losses against top 10 opponents where the Trojans had leads in all three games. One of the big issues in USC's losses during the week and throughout the season has been their inability to play complimentary ball. Shotgun breaks down the Trojans' issues with getting shutdown innings after they score runs with the Trojans having only four 1-2-3 innings the half inning after scoring this season. USC assistant coach Andy Jenkins joins the Dedeaux Download Podcast to discuss how the coaching staff is trying to jumpstart a talented team that isn't playing with a ton of confidence after getting out of the gates slow. He talks about how the team has to continue to put in the hard work to be able to fix their problems and get the results they are looking for. Jenkins also breaks down his role on the staff as the third paid assistant, a position the NCAA just allowed for the first time this offseason, and his journey to arrive at USC after being a part of the group that helped kickstart Oregon State's program into a consistent College World Series contender and then starting his coaching career at his alma mater. After the visit with Jenkins, Shotgun and Jack look at where the Trojans stand and their woeful offensive statistics. Jack provides some breaking injury news as a key contributor looks to be out for an extended time going forward. The podcasting duo also look ahead to the upcoming week of action where the Trojans begin Pac-12 play against Arizona. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) return with another episode of the The USC Triple-Double Podcast, breaking down the Women of Troy's road sweep of the Arizona schools, which included the best game of the year with the Trojans beating Arizona in double overtime without JuJu Watkins in crunch time. They also look into what USC mens road split at No. 19 Washington State and Washington means for the potential of the Trojans to make a run in the Pac-12 Tournament. The men will get their chance in Las Vegas next week to try to make a four-day run to the NCAA tournament, but first the Women of Troy will try to improve upon their NCAA tournament resume with a run in this week's women's Pac-12 tournament. Shotgun and Connor preview how that could play out in a bracket as the No. 2 seed. In the NCAA's latest unveiling of the projected top 16 seeds, the Trojans moved up from No. 9 to No. 8 and bumped up to a two seed. Shotgun and Connor break down all the latest action for both teams, including looking closely at Isaiah Collier's career-best performance, helping will the Trojans to a win at Washington. They also look at all the accolades that JuJu Watkins continues to collect, including the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year award and a national Freshman of the Year honor. The podcasting duo also look at the positives and negatives of the recent USC basketball action from both squads, including the team efforts of the women to win without Watkins and the positive momentum the men have been building with a couple of players really fitting into their roles recently. After the break, senior forward DJ Rodman joins the show to discuss the recent upswing in the Trojans' play and how they can carry it forward for the final week of the regular season and the Pac-12 Tournament next week. Rodman talks about the bond he's created with his teammates and why the group has stuck together and continued to fight for one another despite all the struggles and failure to meet expectations this season. The USC Triple-Double Podcast returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the men's version of the Trojans winning the latest Crosstown Showdown matchup with UCLA as well as the Women of Troy picking up another top 15 win before having their seven-game win streak snapped. The Women of Troy remain at No. 7 in the Associated Press top 25 poll and at No. 11 in the NET rankings. The Trojans sit in a three-way tie for second place in the Pac-12 standings before heading on the road for the final week of the regular season. The men's team still sits in 11th place in the conference standings, but inched closer to moving out of the spot following their rivalry win. USC women's head coach Lindsay Gottlieb joins the show to discuss what the Trojans have to do to keep their foot on the pedal after having their seven-game win streak snapped by a Utah team that has handed the Trojans two of their five losses. Gottlieb discusses maintenance for JuJu Watkins to try to keep her fresh down the stretch and how important the play of Kaitlyn Davis has been for a team with big March Madness aspirations. After the break, Shotgun and Connor break down all the latest action for both teams, including Boogie Ellis' returning to his Bruin killer status, helping the Trojan men win the Pauley Pavilion iteration of the Crosstown Showdown. They also discuss the continued heightened play of true freshmen Isaiah Collier, who has a 5:2 assist-to-turnover ratio since returning from injury, and JuJu Watkins, who piled on two more 30+ point performances. The podcasting duo also take a look at another quiet week from Bronny James with the biggest news coming not from his play but again from something said by his father LeBron James and the speculation surrounding whether Bronny will enter the 2024 NBA Draft. Shotgun and Connor also look at the positives and negatives of the recent USC basketball action from both squads and look forward to the next week to preview what lies ahead. For the women, they head to the desert to conclude the regular season with a chance to lock up a top two seed in the Pac-12 Tournament the following week. The men head on the road to the Pacific Northwest to take on No. 19 Washington State and their lone matchup with Washington. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the latest news and notes around the USC football program and discussing the newest major changes to the college football landscape. This offseason has been the most impactful in college football history with many of the historical NCAA rules getting shot down by the courts, the death of the Pac-12, blueblood programs switching conferences and Nick Saban retiring, leading to an extended coaching carousel that impacted football at all levels. The latest court ruling has essentially removed any and all Name, Image and Likeness rules from the NCAA, allowing collectives to provide any incentives that they want to players and prospects and the NCAA can't do anything about it. The USC athletic department was one of the few programs following those now illegal rules, so we talk about how this could impact the Trojans recruiting efforts going forward. The guys also take a look at USC's transfer portal class and rank all of the incoming players by potential impact on the 2024 roster. Dedeaux Download: Andy Stankiewicz joins after USC gets off the schneid & grabs first series win

Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith return with another episode of the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down the second week of action in the 2024 season -- one where USC baseball earned its first series win of the campaign. They break down USC's 2-2 week, which included the Trojans falling to 0-5 on the season before getting a walk-off win on an Ethan Hedges ninth-inning drive to the wall to beat Portland, 6-5. USC then built on its momentum the next day with a 10-4 win to take the series from a solid Pilots squad. After scoring only seven runs in the first five games, the 16 put up on the scoreboard in their two wins was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans, who mixed and matched lineups throughout the week as they continue to try to find the right combinations. USC head coach Andy Stankiewicz joins the Dedeaux Download Podcast to discuss the week of action and the message he delivered to his team after they started 0-5 with everything seeming to go against them. The Trojans' second-year head coach also discusses USC's first weekend in their home away from home of Great Park in Irvine, Calif. where it is playing the majority of their weekend home games this season as Dedeaux Field is under reconstruction and not available. Stankiewicz also breaks down the players that have got off to a good start along with those that need to pick things up as USC heads into a difficult week with future Big Ten rival Michigan coming to town for a midweek matchup before the Trojans head to Globe Life Park in Texas to take on a pair of top 10 teams in TCU and Texas A&M. After the visit with Stankiewicz, Shotgun and Jack break down all the action from the second week, see where the Trojans stand and look forward to the upcoming week of action. The guys give their thoughts on each and every game and discuss which ones are the most challenging, where the potential trap games are and which new road trips they are looking forward to the most. From Louisiana State in Las Vegas to Notre Dame in the Coliseum, Lincoln Riley and the 2024 Trojans will have their hands full during what should be an exciting first season in the B1G. They also give their thoughts on the breaking news that running backs coach Kiel McDonald is reportedly moving across town, taking an NFL job with Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. USC Triple-Double Podcast: Women of Troy get big road sweep; assistant Jay Morris discusses what men need to get hot late

The USC Triple-Double Podcast returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the Women of Troy's road sweep of the Oregon schools as well as the up and down week for the men's basketball team where the Trojans held off Utah with a big block by Joshua Morgan to deny the game-tying layup attempt and then a double-overtime loss to Colorado that saw the Trojans blow a 16-point lead in the final 10 minutes and not be able to stop a game-tying attempt at the rim. The Women of Troy climbed to No. 7 in the Associated Press top 25 poll and at No. 11 in the NET rankings. They also landed as the No. 9 overall seed (a No. 3 regional seed) in the NCAA's first unveiling of the projected top 16 seeds after defeating Oregon and Oregon State thanks to a pair of dynamic first-quarter starts. The Trojans move into a three-way tie for second place in the Pac-12 standings before hosting Utah and Colorado this week. The men's team moved out of a last-place tie with Oregon State in the conference standings after its win over Utah, but wasn't able to pull up to the back bumper of Washington after their double-overtime loss. USC men's assistant coach Jay Morris joins the show to discuss what the Trojans have to do to get all the pieces fit together as they try to build up to playing their best basketball at the end of the season, leading into the Pac-12 Tournament. He also talks about getting successful elements from practice to translate to games and the frustration when that doesn't happen. After the break, Shotgun and Connor break down all the latest action for both teams, including Boogie Ellis' breakthrough against Colorado. They also discuss the continued heightened play of Isaiah Collier, who has a 3:1 assist-to-turnover ratio since returning from injury after having a career-high nine assists with only one turnover against Colorado. They also take a look at another quiet week from Bronny James with the biggest news coming not from his play but from something said by his father LeBron James. The podcasting duo also look at the positives and negatives of the recent USC basketball action from both squads and look forward to the next week to preview what lies ahead. For the women, they have a big-time home stand against Utah and Colorado, who they lost to on the road. The men will remain in Los Angeles but travel across town to take on UCLA at Pauley Pavilion. Dedeaux Download: Why it's not yet time to panic after Trojans fall flat in MLB Desert Invitational

Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith return with another episode of the Dedeaux Download Podcast to open the 2024 regular season. They break down USC baseball's disappointing opening weekend where the Trojans went winless in the MLB Desert Invitational in Arizona, falling to BYU (8-1), Grand Canyon (8-1) and Ohio State (5-2). The Trojans managed only 12 hits and four runs on the weekend with Jacob Galloway supplying nearly half of that output himself in one of the lone bright spots for the offense. USC struck out 31 times in three games and struggled mightily when it got runners on base, going just 2 for 34 (.059), and were even worse with runners in scoring position, going 1 for 25 (.040). But the offense wasn't the only area of concern for the Trojans. The pitching allowed 19 walks, and the defense committed six errors. Shotgun and Jack break down all the action from the 0-3 opening weekend, assess the current concern level for the Trojans and look forward to the upcoming week of action that has the Trojans slated to play five games with midweek contests against UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount before hosting Portland this weekend at Great Park in Irvine. Coach Harvey Hyde gives his thoughts on the new USC defensive coaching staff

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the recent USC football press conference where head coach Lincoln Riley introduced the new members of the defensive coaching staff, defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn, defensive line coach Eric Henderson, linebackers coach Matt Entz and secondary coach Doug Belk. Coach Hyde starts off the show talking about how impressed he was with these new coaches and thought the press conference was the best one USC has had since Riley arrived at Troy. He loved how they were able to talk about their coaching philosophies as well as why they decided to leave good jobs and become a Trojan assistant coach. The coaches all showed great football knowledge and provided honest answers about the potential of the defense while embracing the tradition of the program. Coach Hyde felt it was enlightening to hear four coaches talk about their players and what they are going to try and accomplish. Riley made a statement when he went out and hired a very qualified group of coaches with great defensive minds. Coaches that are not afraid to address the issues they face and how they want to teach defensive fundamentals that will create a team defense, not a bunch of individuals. They also recognized that having a better defense isn’t enough, they have to be able to give the offense looks in practice and make that side of the ball better as well. Coach Hyde feels that this defense will be fundamentally stronger with players understanding their assignments and the overall schemes better. They will be better coached with the proper knowledge to play and perform at high levels. Players will be taught and they will know what they need to do, enabling them to perform at full speed. Lynn said it best, explaining how he wants to teach the basics and start slow, allowing every player on the team to know what is expected of them. He also feels it is important to fit the scheme to the personnel and not the other way around. USC Triple-Double Podcast: Silent assassin senior guard Kayla Padilla joins the show

The USC Triple-Double Podcast returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the Women of Troy's home sweep of the Arizona schools as well as the deflating and then demoralizing trip to the Bay Area for the men's basketball team where the Trojans lost a winnable game in overtime and then got destroyed by more than 30 poitns. The Women of Troy remain at No. 10 in the Associated Press top 25 poll and at No. 16 in the NET rankings before the first unveiling of the projected top 16 seeds after defeating Arizona State and Arizona behind a pair of 30+ point performances from JuJu Watkins, who now has nine 30+ outings on the season. The Trojans remain tied for fourth in the Pac-12 standings before a challenging trip to Eugene and Corvallis. The men's team remains in the cellar, tied with Oregon State for last place in the conference standings. Shotgun and Connor break down all the latest action for both teams, including looking closely at JuJu Watkins' elite free throw shooting. They also discuss the return of Isaiah Collier, who took over in the second half of the matchup against California, carrying the team down the stretch. They also take a look at a quiet week from Bronny James despite a loud rumor about his father LeBron James. The podcasting duo also look at the positives and negatives of the recent USC basketball action from both squads and look forward to the next week to preview what lies ahead. For the men, they try to recover from a Stanford game where they gave up a 25-0 run with home matchups against Utah and Colorado, who have struggled on the road this season. The Women of Troy will head to Oregon to take on the Ducks and the Beavers in their arenas. After the break, senior guard Kayla Padilla joins the show to discuss her transition from being the Ivy League's leading scorer to being a facilitator and spot-up sniper for the Women of Troy. Dedeaux Download: Previewing USC baseball on the mound in 2024 with pitching coach Seth Etherton

The Dedeaux Download podcast, part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows, returns with the 2024 college baseball season starting this week. Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith return to preview what USC baseball is going to look like on the mound in Year 2 under the leadership of pitching coach and Trojans' legend Seth Etherton. After previewing the season's challenges and the team's hitting the last two weeks, the podcasting duo turn their focus to the sacred circle that is the pitcher’s mound to dive into what the Trojans have on the pitching side. Similar to the offensive side, USC has a lot more options this season as the coaching staff has been able to build the depth of the squad. Shotgun and Jack also supply superlatives for the Trojan pitchers, giving their picks for the team's best pitcher, most impactful newcomer and breakout candidates among others. That all comes after Shotgun and Jack talk with USC pitching coach Seth Etherton about his group, which includes several experienced returners and simultaneously several exciting newcomers. Etherton discusses who he's most intrigued by and who could be poised for a breakout campaign. He also chats about the impact of having three starters returning and where each of those three -- Caden Aoki, Tyler Stromsborg and Eric Hammond -- have all improved their games. Among other players that are brought up, Etherton talks about the the impact CSUN transfer Xavier Martinez could have as a swing pitcher capable of filling a variety of roles on the staff and how freshman lefty Mason Edwards has pushed his way into potentially starting in the midweek.
