Nominations sought for Paint-A-Thon

Every year, employees of local Zions Bank branches spruce up an area home with a fresh coat of paint on the exterior and landscape improvement, and the bank is currently seeking nominations for its Painta Thon service project. Typically, homes are referred to the bank by city and state housing agencies, aging services, community organizations and local churches. This year, the public is invited to nominate up to half of the 35 homes that will benefit from the project. Nominations are due by April 15. The service project benefits low-income elderly, disabled, and vet- eran residents in communities across Utah... School board approves existing fee schedule structure in anticipation of elimination of most fees in 2025

Due to recently passed legislation that will dramatically change class fee schedules for secondary schools in the 2025-2026 school year, the Box Elder School District Board of Education rejected a proposal to itemize class fees for 2024-2025. For the past 15 years the Box Elder School District has used a flat fee system, but following an audit report, was considering a proposal to come into compliance with Utah State Board of Education requirement that class fees be itemized. March's lion sure can roar

March decided to come in like a lion this year, which continued last week with four days of windy conditions, including exceptionally strong winds on Thursday and Friday. The strongest gust was initially thought to be 102 mph, but that was before a 113-mph gust was reported from the Brigham City airport, where the wind caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage. In other areas of the city people assessed windcaused damage, including downed trees, blown over fences and sheds, and more. Boys lacrosse begins season with hot offense, win 2 of 3

The Box Elder High School boys lacrosse team’s offense has been cranking on all cylinders and their defense has been stifling opponents en route to winning two of their first three outings of the year. The Bees started the season with a bang as they routed West, 16-1, on March 6 before falling to Brighton, 20-4, last Tuesday. They bounced back in a big way two nights later with a 22-5 shelacking of Layton. The West High School Panthers never had an answer for the Bees on either end of the field as the visitors scored six goals in the... Damaging winds hit Box Elder

(clockwise from top left) Security camera footage catches a shed being blown across the property of the Eagles Aerie in the north part of the city. This basketball standard appears to have just given up in its fight against the wind. Similarly, this fence in the Lindsay Park area of Brigham City couldn’t hold up under strong constant winds and violently strong gusts over Thursday and Friday. And, of course, this downed tree in Brigham City was just one of many that were toppled in the area. Article Link https://www.benewsjournal.com/articles/damaging-winds-hit-box-elder/

The Box Elder High School girls lacrosse team started their season with two wins, taking down Roy on the road, 18-6, last Friday, and beating Layton, 16-5, on Saturday in the Bees’ first home game of the year. On Friday, it took the Bees a quarter or so to find their rhythm as the Royals were able to keep things close early behind senior Ta’niya Joiner, who scored four of the six goals for the home team. Brigham City’s Eagle Mountain Golf Course is an asset to the city, and has turned a profit for 11 of the last 14 years. Public invited to 'push in' new fire engine

With Brigham City’s newest fire engine having arrived and about to be put into service, the Brigham City Fire Department is inviting the public to take part in the time-honored ceremony of “pushing” the engine into the firehouse. It’s a tradition that began among American fire services sometime in the 1800s, when new firefighting apparatus consisted of horse-drawn steam pumpers which needed to be “pushed in” to fire stations. The physical need for pushing ended in the 1920s, when horses were replaced by engines, but the tradition has stuck, with community residents being invited to get a hands-on look at...
