03-31-24 Easter has become a tradition for families to come together to eat candy, hide eggs, and dress up. This is not at all what Jesus had in mind when He came out of the grave with the keys to the kingdom, and all authority had been given over to Him after living a perfect, holy, and pure life crushing the enemy of death and Satan. The Third day represents the exclamation point of the gospel to which we are not ashamed. It’s the power to save, live, and be free. The same Spirit that empowered Jesus to live and do such mighty miracles is the same Spirit that raised Him from the grave. If you follow Jesus, what are you letting the Spirit of God do; bring life, healing, strength and freedom? That’s what He desires. 03-24-24 Truth is SO important. It is so important that significant portions of scripture are devoted to warning us to be aware of attempts to deceive us, to distract us from the Truth. Indeed, Jesus Himself commands His disciples to See to it that no one deceives you, misleads you, leads you astray". 03-17-24 Fasting resource to follow along with us: https://gracechurchsp.org/14-days-of-prayer-and-fasting-2024-prayer-points/ We are in a season of Seeking God with our whole heart. That means we spend time in His presence through the reading of His Word, spending time in authentic community, confessing sin, and spending extended times in prayer and practices like fasting. Seeking God is the way forward. It’s the direction we are heading in, but it requires a removal of the weight and the sin for our journey in this life. Fasting helps us to rid our hearts of extra weight and removes the sin by first exposing it. Fasting is a willing practice that humbles our hearts, takes our shallow lives deeper, and breaks up the selfish areas. Fasting prepares our hearts to seek God, read His Word, and pray. Success is achieved by keeping the main thing the main thing. However, we live in a culture where busyness and distraction are the normal lifestyle. Many moments that would be quiet moments are filled with entertainment, social media, or other activities. Jesus set an example of listening to the Father in silence. 03-03-24 In a season of seeking God, we can hit some obstacles, roadblocks, and potholes that make the trip a bit more rough. During longer rides, this becomes exhausting. You might begin to question if its worth it. You might be tempted to quit and begin to doubt. This is the time where breakthrough happens, where we dont need to be tempted to do this in our own strength or vigor or even discipline but rather through the Spirit. Easily said, but how do you rest and let God fight your battles? Repentance. Kill the sin that is trying to resist being pushed aside. That’s when times of refreshing, rest, and life abundantly come because its that act alone that draws the presence of God. 02-25-24 This is a season in which the Father is calling His people to seek Him. During this time, we are making room to seek God in ways we might not have before, ways in which we are anticipating great rewards and significant returns on our efforts. To seek God is not just to add to our already busy tasks and lists, its to prune the things of this world and turn our attention towards God. This is what a consecrated life looks like. You are called to identify and fulfill the purpose that God has for you. With His gifts, His protection, and promises over you. This flows out of your relationship with God. 01-21-24 You live in a city that is perishing because of a lack of knowledge of who God truly is. (See Hosea 4:6) There was a time in Amos’ day that God sent a famine, not of food or water, but a lack of Gods Word. (Amos 8:11) And the result was the slow death of peoples hearts. So it is today, peoples hearts are slowly dying on the inside for lack of vision and lack of knowing God intimately. That’s where you come in. You are called to know God, to find strength in that, and to do great exploits. 01-14-24 There are stories in history that seem to fit perfectly with the moment in time we are in today. Zechariah is one of those stories. The people of God are coming back from exile and seeing their city in ruins. Our cities are filled with people who are in ruins, not destroyed, broken down and mangled physically, but spiritually. God calls His people back to a relationship with Him. Today He is calling us to return to Him, for us to prepare our hearts to be a resting place for God, a place He can dwell so that our hearts are renewed to see our city renewed. 01-07-24 In Luke chapter 2, we read that Jesus was "about His Fathers business". More specifically, He said He "must" be about it. He was 12 years old when He said this to His mom, Mary. This attitude of "must" (as opposed to should or could) was a common theme throughout Jesus life. "I must go through Samaria", "I must preach the gospel", "I must do the works of Him who sent Me", etc. What is your "must" from God? What is the burden that He extends to you that will help you do the work you are meant to do and become the person God intends for you to become? 12-24-23 MIGHTY GOD | EVERLASTING FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE, and WONDERFUL COUNSELOR Once a year, we gather around a tree and open gifts. For some, this is a tradition that is as old as time, but it goes beyond trees and presents. The origins of Christmas are found with God’s Son being born on earth. A gift that we truly are still unpacking in all its riches and glory. Oftentimes, our prideful heart makes life and all of its gifts about - ourself, but the story of Christmas is about God. It always was, and always needs to be. He will not share His glory with anyone. If you had 3 years to save the world from disaster, what methods would you use to reach as many people as possible to accomplish what is seemingly an impossible task? You probably wouldnt sleep much. you would always be on the move, occupying your time with doing as much as you can. Jesuss public ministry only lasted 3 years (still continues today through His followers), but even so, the bible records for us that Jesus, the Saviour of the world, would often slip away to spend time with His Father in prayer. Jesus prioritized prayer. He would even leave needy crowds to confide in His Father in solitude. If the Son of God Himself never neglected prayer, even when burdened with saving the world, why is it that we often do? The world doesnt need perfect programs, it needs praying people. There comes a time in the church when we need to get serious about what God is serious about. This world is not doing well, partly due because the Church is not fulfilling the role its called to. The church is to forcefully advance the kingdom of God, to do good, to disciple, to seek God and make disciples. The prayer meeting, Leonard Ravenhill says, is the cinderella of the church.’ We need to see the people of God pray. Pray with urgency, pray with fervent hearts, pray without ceasing, pray honestly, pray the Word, and pray in humility. 11-26-23 Abide - How to Live the Word and not just read it As we finish up our 3-part topic of the Word in this Discipleship Series, we are looking at how we can abide in the Word. How do we live the Word, not just read it? Eugene Peterson says there is an enormous amount of damage done in the way of Christian living… This is unfortunate and true in my life and in yours. Peterson goes on to say that the damage is done because of bad Bible reading. How can bad reading be the issue of bad living? We are going to look at living well, through reading well, by abiding in the Word. 11-19-23 There is an unsettling over the earth right now through wars, earthquakes, disasters, fear, and death. Its as if the entire creation is groaning for the Presence of God, yet the people of God are called to abide, to remain at rest in Him. There are many ways that we stay alive and connected to God, but over the next two months, we will be exploring how this is done through The Word and Prayer.Reading the Bible is a discipline to keep us alive, because it feeds the soul with nourishment. This week we are looking at the ancient practice of Lectio Divina, the prayerful reading of the Word. One of the most important aspects of the Soldiers life in Christ is the ability to war. The battle that rages around you is targeted for your heart, and the weapon of your warfare is the sword, which is the Word of God. The question then rises, how familiar are you with your weapon, are you ready for battle, and are you equipped to fight for your heart, family, marriage? There is a lot to be said about Water Baptism, as well as a lot of thoughts and understandings of what Baptism really is and what the bible teaches us about it. What we confidently know is that baptism is not something we do as Christ followers because its the "church thing to do", or because its a formality in our walks with God. We also dont do it as a means of repentance or to gain salvation. That work must be done in the heart first. In its final analysis, Baptism is simply the outward declaration of an inward transformation. It is the proper and biblical response to the change in character that is initiated by real repentance, and developed by enduring obedience to Jesus. We receive baptism to receive the outward mark of sanctification, but more importantly, because we as His people are in love with Him. There are some radical statements about the Church in the Bible. They talk about how the Church is the body of Christ on earth, how the very attacks of hell will not prevail against it, how everything has been subjected under its feet, and how the very wisdom of God is revealed through it. Understanding the churchs significance and its power might make us think twice about sleeping in or coming to church late. Church is not just a Sunday morning (or Thursday night) gathering in a building. Jesus said the Church is where 2 or 3 are gathered together in agreement asking God. When humanity meets together as a family, using the gifts to give to each other, serving, loving, caring, and coming together gathered around the Presence of God, powerful things happen. That’s exactly what we need – power. This world is not getting better by accident, God’s plan is discipleship. October 22, 2023 We trivialize God when we forget that He is Holy. He is loving, trustworthy, & good, but also just, separate, & righteous. He expects us to also be holy and this is for every disciple. We need to train those we disciple in holiness, which is the purifying, sanctifying, and maturing process. Ravenhill asked "are we more afraid of holiness than we are of sinfulness? Believers should struggle with sin, but never accepting it and letting it be a practiced lifestyle. Cursing, drinking excessively, pornography, cowardice, not tithing, and sexual immorality must not be found amongst us. To become Holy, we invite the Holy Spirit to work His power within us and we listen and obey loving conviction. We dont just avoid sin, condemnation, & religion. We pursue God on His terms because we want to be close to our Holy Father. Jesus’ teaching was holistic in nature. It encompasses the whole person, not just a small part of our lives. His words and life were targeted towards the heart so that it would flow in every aspect of our life. But our hearts have been so wounded and calloused that we self protect and guard to the point we have hard hearts. Therefore, we are stuck, immature, lazy, and complacent in many parts of our lives. This weekend we are looking at how Jesus wants our hearts to turn from dull to healed through understanding, to find what blocks us from acting out the commands we hear in Scripture in order for there not to be a difference in what we see on the pages of the Bible and what we experience in our life. We do that by identifying the lies, sins, and hurts and give them time in the Presence of God. Only then will we be whole, healed, and full of life. This is what healed hearts look like. In Christian culture today, the definition of a disciple of Jesus Christ has been blurred and diluted. When asked if people thought a disciple and a Christian were the same thing, the responses were varied. Some were crystal clear that a disciple and a Christian, are different and some believed that they were the same or should be the same. What is Jesus’ perspective on the subject? Christian is the dominant label we use to identify people who believe in Jesus, but like the question, “which came first the chicken or the egg”? The term Christian came after the term disciple, Acts 11:26. Jesus identified his followers as disciples. God’s intention is that everyone that comes to Jesus, be transformed to act like Jesus. In this study we will look at some tools that will help us grow into the image of Christ: The essentials of the word of God, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, accountable relationships and spiritual disciplines. The Church is advancing forcefully and the enemy hates it, but in Matthew 16, Jesus said the gates of hell will not prevail against the church. The church is the people, and we are being built from the Word of God. The revelation of who God is erects every brick of knowledge in our hearts as the temple of God. The very heart of man is the center of a great battle, to war for God, to fill, and to protect from the enemy. Sin desires to come in and weaken and ultimately destroy your heart. God is producing pure hearts so that we can see Him. That’s what the church is doing, gathering people to allow God to build pure hearts. Our service times changed a few weeks ago in order to extend our time in the Presence of God as a family. The first week we talked about the importance of seeing God for who He is and how seeing Him rightly changes everything. Last week we talked about how our hunger moves us, takes us deeper, and gets us closer. This week we are talking about how these all come together to transform us, free us, and heal us to follow Jesus. In Luke 8 there is a story of a man from the city that encounters Jesus and is freed from his shackles, bondage, and chains to return home healthy, healed and in his right mind. When we see God more clearly, we are drawn closer and deeper into His presence, but its costly. It requires us to be real and to name our brokenness so that God can heal and free us. Is it possible to go to church and not meet God? Is it possible to read the Bible and not feed your soul? Is it possible to pray and not be transformed? Yes. Its possible; it’s common, and the enemy loves it. We are discussing why we go to church and why we are extending our service times to spend more time with God. Just being in God’s presence isn’t a fix-all. More of one thing doesn’t automatically cure our sick souls. So, we are having a conversation about why we do church. Its to meet God. That’s why we were created, why we are alive, and why we are still on this earth; to be with Him, not just do things for Him. The very thing that drives you to be with God is hunger. Hunger moves you. It doesn’t leave you in the same place. Hunger moves you deeper and gets you closer. Hungers ultimate goal is intimacy. Hunger will continue to stir up inside you until you get uncomfortably close to the living God. Are you hungry?
